Korean Oriental Medicine has experienced the fluctuation of its status since modernization started. At the beginning of the modernization, Korean Oriental Medicine faced the crisis of disappearance and, nowadays, its status has risen to the very important position in the medical system of Korea. Korean Oriental Medical doctors have obtained the position of medical profession and enjoyed the exclusive privileges. The study on the status of Korean Oriental Medicine is an interesting subject field in the sense that the empirical research on the social factors concerning the status fluctuation of medical profession in non-western world can be done. Few studies on the social status of Korean Oriental Medicine have been found so far in spite of its ample implication of the subject. This paper conducted the questionnaire survey in order to investigate the views of Korean Oriental Medical doctors about the status of Korean Oriental medicine, factors for the improvement of its status, and the cultivating methods of Korean Oriental Medicine. Depending on the demographic features of Korean Oriental Medical doctors, first, the attitude toward the status of Korean Oriental Medicine was analyzed. The criteria to be investigated were the present and future status of Korean Oriental Medicine. Second, the items for the status improvement of Korean Oriental Medicine was analyzed under the criteria of specialization and scientific movement of Korean Oriental Medicine. Third, the stance of Korean Oriental Medical doctors on the cultivating methods of Korean Oriental Medicine was analyzed under the criteria of the level of awareness of and attitude toward Korean Oriental Medicine.

This Study is to propose the method about statistical factor from the old oriental medical record in Korea. This Study reviews the statistical analysis recently published in the old oriental medical books which are in the Research Report by the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine at 2007. The results reveal a disease factors, prescription factors.medicines factors, population factors and historical factors by the statistics. The results show that the old oriental medical record for a information system need the interpreting with a information analysts, a statistics analysts and an oriental medical doctors.

1. Causes of SSHL are deficiency of kidney, pathogen of wind, meridian of soyang and sutaeyang, and pathogen of fire. 2. Four methods are used to treat SSHL, heath cultivation, herbal medicine for internal use, external remedy and acumoxatherapy. 3. Meridians, those are related with treatment of SSHL, are Kidney Meridian(Chok-soyin), Triple energizer Meridian(Shou-soyang), Gallbladder Meridian(Chok-soyang), Large intestine Meridian(Shou-yangmyong) and Small intestine Meridian(Shou-taeyang). 4. Pokrong, Jolrong and Gualrong, those are appeared some oriental documentary records, are not same with SSHL correctly. 5. In oriental medically, Yirong contains SSHL except slow progress. To teat SSHL, it is helpful to investigate method according to each symptoms and conditions in oriental medical documentary records.

This study was carried out to compare perceptions about nursing activities in oriental medical hospital settings. Data were collected from 47 patients hospitalized in an oriental medical hospital, and 41 nurses and 47 oriental medical doctors working in four oriental medical hospitals from July 10th to Sept.20th, 1991. The findings of this study are as follows. 1. There were significant differences in the perceptions about physical nursing activities between patients ( M=44.07) and nurses (M=48.44) (t=-3.09. p=0.003) , and between nurses and oriental medical doctors (M=41.47) (t=-5,20. p=0.000). 2. There were no differences in perceptions about psychological and emotional nursing activities between patients ( M=27.64) and nurses (M=28.52) (t=-1.02, p=0.310), but there were differences between nurses and oriental medical doctors ( M=24. 31) (t=-5.31, p=0.000). 3. There were differences in perceptions about observation, recording and implemention of medical care activities between patients (M=53.65) and nurses (M=57.08) (t=-2.15, p=0.034), but there were no differences between nurses and oriental medical doctors (M=57.28) (t=0.14, p=0.892). 4. There were no differences in perceptions about nursing management activities between patients (M=24.88) and nurses (M=26.42) (t=-1.91, p=0.059), but there were differences between nurses and oriental medical doctors (M=24.25) (t=-3.24, p=0.002).

"HanGaekChiHeom" is a book that arranged the medical records left by a Japanese doctor Junso Higuchi who treated a group of diplomats from Chosun and questions and answers exchanged between him and Chosun's doctor ChoSoongSoo. There are 14 kinds of medical records here with treatments and prescriptions as well as the detailed descriptions about the name, age and symptoms of patients. Various diseases and symptoms are included among them such as bums, common cold, skin diseases, edemas, etc. The characteristics of Junso Higuchi seem to be affected by medicine in Ming Dynasty in China.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical application of relaxation training and oriental medical treatment to the SimDamHeoGup(心膽虛怯) type of ChilJungGuQiJung(七情九氣證) patient. In this case, a male patient, 31 years old, who lost his job two months ago, complained of the tension of body and anxiety. We treated the patient with relaxation training and oriental medical treatment such as herbal medicine, acupuncture treatment and aroma therapy. And we diagnosed his state SimDamHeoGup(心膽虛怯) type of ChilJungGuQiJung(七情九氣證), so we prescribed HaChuBoSimTang(夏朮補心場) for patient. In result, the patient’s tension of body and anxiety was improved, so he could recover his confidence slowly. Conclusionally, relaxation training and oriental medical treatment could be effective method to treat the patient of adjustment disorder with the tension of body and anxiety.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical application of Korean Traditional treatment to psychogenic torticollis patient who has panic disorder as underlying disease. Methods : Herb medicine used in this study are Heosu-san(Huishou-san) which is previously used for torticollis in several studies, Guibi-tang(Guipi-tang) and Gamiondam-tang(Jiaweiwendan-tang) which are frequently used for phychological disease. Also, physical therapy and aroma therapy were practiced which basically stretches and relaxes muscles around cervical muscles. Self exercise of cervical muscles was carried out during acupuncture. Results : After the comprehensive treatment, the clinical symptoms of the patient were improved. Conclusions : It is suggested that oriental medical treatment are effective in psychogenic torticollis.

Objectives : This study is designed for trend analysis of oriental medicine treatment for visual impairment. Methods : Research studies related to objectives were gathered through OASIS, KTKP, PUBMED with keywords such as "visual impairment", "myopia", "hyperopia", "presbyopia", "astigmatism" and analyzed. Results : As a result of searching domestic and overseas research on oriental medical treatment for visual impairment, 7 domestic research papers and 11 overseas research papers have been selected. Among those research papers, 15 of those are studies related to childhood or juvenile myopia. Acupuncture, ear acupuncture, herb medicine, periocular massage, eye muscle exercise and habit correction are used as treatment methods for visual impairment. 14 out of 17 research papers which mentioned treatment effect of oriental medicine reported oriental treatment of visual impairment is effective. Conclusions : Various types of oriental medical treatment could be effective in treating visual impairment. Thus, related in-depth research must be proceeded.

Paroxysmal Kinesigenic Dyskinesia ( PKD ) is an unusual dyskinesia often precipitated by voluntary movements and characterized by brief episodes of choreic/ dystonic movements. Little is known of the pathophysiology of PKD, although secondary etiologies such as multiple sclerosis, ischemic stroke, birth injury , head trauma, drug abuse, etc. are known to induce the disease. We report a case of a male patient suffering from both legs dystonia for 10 years. He had a past history of drug abuse, and was diagnosed as PKD by a neurologist. We treated him with acupucture and herbal medicine and was able to observe the improvement in certain symtoms and general condition.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Traditional Korean Medical therapy on 3 patients with Oligomenorrhea. who were obese. Methods: The overweight patients who had been suffering from Oligomenorrhea visited to OBGY department of Dongseo Oriental Medical Hospital. We diagnosed their cases as Supdam(濕痰) on the authority of the first oriental medical examination and treated them with Traditional Korean Medical therapy such as herbal medication and acupuncture therapy. The process of symptoms was evaluated by checking their Menstrual periods. Results: After Traditional Korean Medical therapy. Three cases of Oligomenorrhea were improved. Their Menstrual periods were shortened and Menstrual cycles were maintained. Conclusion: This study shows that overweight or obesity is connected with Oligomenorrhea. Traditional Korean Medical therapy can be effective for the management of Oligomenorrhea.
