Objectives: We investigated the physical effects of the cosmetics containing Ginkgo biloba. with meridian massage on human skin by using non-invasive instruments. Methods: We made cosmetics containing the extract of Ginkgo biloba. and measured physiological effects such as skin moisturization, blood flow, skin color, sebum secretion, skin evenness of volunteers applied the cosmetic products with meridian massage for 2 weeks. Results: Topical applications of w/o cream that 1 % Ginkgo biloba. was emulsified, showed significant improvement of blood flow, water contents and $L{\ast}$ value of the face skin. And the skin evenness, sebum contents and skin surface smoothness were improved after 2 weeks. Conclusions: The combination of cosmetics containing the extract of Ginkgo biloba. with meridian massage improved the physical properties of human skin during a treatment. Especially the meridian massage played a role of enhancing the effect of the cosmetics containing Ginkgo biloba.

Background : With the growing use of chemical products such as cosmetics, hair dyes, reports of side effects following application of these products is increasing. Contact dermatitis commonly occurs with the use of chemical products. Objective : This study investigated the effect of Oriental medicine for Four outpatients with contact dermatitis due to chemical products. Method : Four patients were treated with acupuncture, herbal medication etc. We used visual analogue scales(VAS) to estimate erythema, pruritus, edema, scales, etc. We took the photos of lesions. Results : Two patients were due to hair dyes, the other two patients were due to cosmetics. Erythema and Pruritus were decreased from nine days to one month. Conclusion : We expect that Oriental medicine could be helpful for contact dermatitis.

본 연구에서는 발모 소재 개발을 위하여 한방복합처방단의 효소처리에 의한 발모 및 흑모 관련 생리활성을 알아보았다. 효소 처리된 한방 복합 처방단의 자유라디칼 소거활성과 superoxide dismutase 유사활성을 알아보았으며, lipoxygenase 활성 저해효과, $5{\alpha}$-reductase 활성 저해효과 및 멜라닌 생성 촉진효과를 확인하였다. 또한, 인체 피부 일차 자극시험 결과 자극이 없는 저자극으로 나타났다. 이로써, 효소 처리된 한방 복합 처방단은 피부자극 없이 모발제품의 기능성 원료로서 큰 가능성을 가지고 있는 것으로 판단된다.

In this study, we prepared CheonJeongKiBo-Dan(7 oriental medicinal plants, 7OMP: Astragalus Membranaceus root, Panax Ginseng root, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (licorice) root, Schizandra Chinensis fruit, Polygonatum Odoratum, Rehmannia Glutinosa root, Paeonia Albiflora root) by extracting them in one reactor and studied its efficacies on skin. UV irradiation has been suggested as a major cause of photoaging in skin. In order to investigate protective effects against UV-B induced cellular damage, 7OMP was extracted with 70% ethanol and dissolved in DMSO. The protective effect was detected by MTT assay, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, phosphorylation of ATR and p53 in human dermal fibroblast cell system after UV-B irradiation. 7OMP reduced UV-B-induced cellular damage in HDFs cells, and inhibited ROS generation. UV-B-induced toxicity accompanying ROS production and the resultant DNA damage are responsible for activation of ATR, p53 and Bad. In this study, 7OMP hampered phosphorylations of ATR and p53 in human dermal fibroblasts. Therefore, 7OMP may be protective against UV-induced skin photoaging.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to confirm the moisturizing effects of Herbal cosmetics containing Sinhyotakrisan(SHTL) extracts on facial skin.Methods : A total of 23 women who visited Semyung Oriental Medical Center from January 10th, 2014 to Feburary 12th, 2014 were included in the study. Provided both cosmetics containing Sinhyotakrisan extract and control products, all the subjects applied one of them to half face and another to remaining half for 4 weeks. We observed change of skin hydration, skin elasticity, skin scale in 0 week, 2 weeks, and 4weeks. Statistical anyalysis was performed by using SPSS, and statistical significance was achieved if the proability was less than 5%(p<0.05).Results : 1. After 4 weeks of using SHTL, skin hydration showed a statistically significant increase compared with using control product(p=0.011). And improvement rate also did(p=0.031). 2. After 4 weeks of using SHTL, skin elasticity showed statistically significant increase compared with using control product(p=0.025). But improvement rate didn't showed statistically significant increase(p=0.068). 3. After 4 weeks of using SHTL, skin scale showed a statistically significant decrease compared with using control product(p=0.029). And improvement rate also did(p=0.047).Conclusions : Considering the above results, herbal cosmetics containing Sinhyotakrisan extracts were effective for skin moisturizing.

Objectives : This study was conducted to test patients with Atopic Dermatitis by external application with Gynostemma Pentaphyllum MAKINO in cosmetics. Methods : We gave scores to 59 patients who visited the Dept. of Oriental Medical Opthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology of Daegu Hanny Oriental Medical Center from July 1st, 2005 to December 31th. We checked the clinic index score(extent. intensity : the degree of erythema, induration or papulation, puritus, excorination, lichenification, scaling or dryness, erosion or oozing or weeping. the degree of itching), Eosinophil count and IgE. Results : There are 46 patients we could check by clinic index score, and 44 patients by laboratory. 1. In the 46 cases clinic index score was significantly decreased between the before- and afterexternal application treatment periods(P<0.01). 2. The 46 cases was devided into two types (moist heat type and blood dryness type) by intensity. External application of Gynostemma Pentaphyllum MAKINO in cosmetics did not significant change by two types. 3. In the 44 laboratory cases, the number of eosinophil counts was decreased but the number of IgE was significantly increased. Conclusions : Considering the above results, we have concluded that cosmetics with Gynostemma Pentaphyllum MAKINO have the remedical effect for Atopic Dermatitis.

Objective : The primary purpose of present study is to evaluate the effect of herbal cosmetics containing Cortex Betulae Platyphyllae extract complex on acne. The second is to comparatively evaluate safety of this cosmetics. Methods : We opened collecting of applicant that men and women(the 18~35-year-old) with acne on face. We selected subjects who came up to entire inclusion criteria and were not included in the exclusion criteria. We checked changes of Acne Global score, skin sebum, moisture, pores counts, Skindex-29 for 8 weeks. Results : 1. Comparison of changes in Global score, it declined in both experimental group and control group. But Experimental group showed a statistically significant decline than control group. 2. Comparison of changes in sebum and moisture, it declined in both experimental group and control group. But there was no statistically significant difference between those two groups. 3. Comparison of changes in erythema normal area, it declined in both experimental group and control group. But there was no statistically significant difference between those two groups. 4. Comparison of changes in pore counts, it increased statistically significantly in both experimental group and control group. 5. Comparison of changes in Skindex-29, it declined in both experimental group and control group. But there was no statistically significant difference between those two groups. Conclusion : Considering the above experiments, it is suggested that herbal cosmetics containing Cortex Betulae Platyphyllae extract complex have a positive effect on acne.

Bioassay-directed fractionation of the dired roots of Sophorae Radix led to the isolation of Sophoraflavanone G. Their structures were elucidated using 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV, IR and mass spectral ananlyses. These compounds exhibited a moderate antimicrobial activities against Streptococcus gordonii, Actinobacillus actinomycetemoomitans and Porphylomonas gingivalis.

Oriental cosmetics is based on oriental medical theory. In oriental medicine, skin reflects the condition of internal organ(臟腑) and qi-hyul(氣血). The oriental dermatology and aesthetics aim at the development of health and beauty using herbal medicine, acupuncture, chuna(推拿), qigong(氣功), and diet. And the oriental dermatology and aesthetics are related the branch of oriental medicine, such as oriental gynecology and oriental internal medicine.

Objectives : We investigated the anti-aging effects on skin with Saccharomyces fermented modified Kyungohkgo extract (SFKE). Methods : Fermented modified Kyungohkgo extracts by 14 different kinds of microorganism were prepared and most effective Saccharomyces fermented modified Kyungohkgo extract among these was selected for anti-aging agent. We measured various effects related to skin such as scavenging activity against free radical, cell proliferation, collagen synthesis and toxicity of SFKE were evaluated and compared with modified Kyungohkgo extract (KE). Results : Free-radical scavenging activity and cell proliferating ratio of SFKE were 2 and 8 times higher than those of KE. The SFKE could significantly increase the collagen synthetic ratio compared with KE treated group. SFKE showed no toxicity at all tested concentrations. Conclusions : The results of our study propose that SFKE have good anti-aging effects on skin.
