An intended contribution of this study is to assist reporters, analysts, and researchers in gaining a better understanding of the New Year's addresses by elucidating the implicit and implicative features of messages within. To this end, this study collected and analyzed 545 New Year's addresses published between 2012 and 2021 by the top 66 Korean companies in terms of market capitalization. Research methodologies applied include text clustering, word embedding of keywords, frequency analysis, and topic modeling. Our main findings suggest that the messages in the New Year's addresses were categorized into nine topics-organizational culture, global advancement, substantial management, business reorganization, capacity building, market leadership, management innovation, sustainable management, and technology development. Next, this study further analyzed the managerial significance of each topic and discussed their characteristics from the perspectives of time, industry, and corporate groups. Companies were typically found to emphasize sound management, market leadership, and business reorganization during economic downturns while stressing capacity building and organizational culture during market transition periods. Also, companies belonging to corporate groups tended to emphasize founding philosophy and corporate culture.

  • Background: Resilience engineering is a paradigm for safety management that focuses on coping with complexity to achieve success, even considering several conflicting goals. Modern sociotechnical systems have to be resilient to comply with the variability of everyday activities, the tight-coupled and under-specified nature of work, and the nonlinear interactions among agents. At organizational level, resilience can be described as a combination of four cornerstones: monitoring, responding, learning, and anticipating. Methods: Starting from these four categories, this article aims at defining a semiquantitative analytic framework to measure organizational resilience in complex sociotechnical systems, combining the resilience analysis grid and the analytic hierarchy process. Results: This article presents an approach for defining resilience abilities of an organization, creating a structured domain-dependent framework to define a resilience profile at different levels of abstraction, and identifying weaknesses and strengths of the system and potential actions to increase system's adaptive capacity. An illustrative example in an anesthesia department clarifies the outcomes of the approach. Conclusion: The outcome of the resilience analysis grid, i.e., a weighed set of probing questions, can be used in different domains, as a support tool in a wider Safety-II oriented managerial action to bring safety management into the core business of the organization.

  • The objective of this research is to suggest the creativity revelation model and to verify the relationships among knowledge capabilities and creativity processes including exploration and exploitation. Also, we investigate whether there are differences in creativity revelation processes from the perspective of psychological empowerment. To achieve the purpose of the research, a survey was conducted targeting employees of software development companies that require creativity in work performance. Empirical results show that knowledge capabilities have positive effect on creativity revelation processes. The notable point of the results is the role of psychological empowerment such that individuals with high psychological empowerment have more exploration-centric revelation, and those with low psychological empowerment have more exploitation-centric on the other hand. These results are interpreted that the behavioral patterns of organizational members may vary depending on the level of psychological empowerment in the creativity revelation, and therefore could suggest several managerial implications regarding creativity management and organizational development in an environment where convergence becomes more important.

  • This paper develops a technology level quantification (TLQ) model by utilizing a learning curve. Original learning curve shows the relationship between cumulative number of units and the required time for the unit. On the other hand, in our developed model, the technology level, such as speed of production and quality of the produced items, is expressed as a function of not cumulative number of units but time, for increasing generality. Furthermore, for expressing each learning that consists of conceptual learning and operational learning, S-curve is utilized in our developed model. By fitting the S-curve and/or decomposing into some activities, our TQL model can be applied to approximate organizational and complicated process. Some variations in time and levels, parameters of our developed model are shown. By using the parameters, the procedure to identify our developed model is proposed. Also, the influential factors for the parameters of our developed model are discussed with classifying the factors into technoware, infoware, humanware, and orgaware. The expected technology level is utilized for expecting the capacity of production system, and the expected capacity can be utilized in predicting various changes in the organization and deciding managerial decision about TT. A case study in manufacturing industry shows the effectiveness of the developed model.
