Recently, active materials such as amorphous silicon (a-Si), poly crystalline silicon (poly-Si), transition metal oxide semiconductors (TMO), and organic semiconductors have been demonstrated for flexible electronics. In order to apply flexible devices on the polymer substrates, all layers should require the characteristic of flexibility as well as the low temperature process. Especially, pentacene thin film transistors (TFTs) have been investigated for probable use in low-cost, large-area, flexible electronic applications such as radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, smart cards, display backplane driver circuits, and sensors. Since pentacene TFTs were studied, their electrical characteristics with varying single variable such as strain, humidity, and temperature have been reported by various groups, which must preferentially be performed in the flexible electronics. For example, the channel mobility of pentacene organic TFTs mainly led to change in device performance under mechanical deformation. While some electrical characteristics like carrier mobility and concentration of organic TFTs were significantly changed at the different temperature. However, there is no study concerning multivariable. Devices actually worked in many different kinds of the environment such as thermal, light, mechanical bending, humidity and various gases. For commercialization, not fewer than two variables of mechanism analysis have to be investigated. Analyzing the phenomenon of shifted characteristics under the change of multivariable may be able to be the importance with developing improved dielectric and encapsulation layer materials. In this study, we have fabricated flexible pentacene TFTs on polymer substrates and observed electrical characteristics of pentacene TFTs exposed to tensile and compressive strains at the different values of temperature like room temperature (RT), 40, 50, $60^{\circ}C$. Effects of bending and heating on the device performance of pentacene TFT will be discussed in detail.
The patterning for the active layer of organic semiconductors is important to attain completely organic-based OTFTs(Organic Thin Film Transistors). We studied on possibility of the application of the conventional photolithography technique to pattern the organic active layer poly(3-hexylthiophene)(P3HT). Patterned P3HT-based OTFTs with Bottom Contact(BC) configuration were fabricated using the conventional photolithography. We achieved field-effect mobilities in the saturation regime ${\sim}1.2{\times}10^{-3}cm^2/V{\cdot}s$, $I_{on/off}$ ratios ${\sim}10^5$ in the subtractive method, ${\sim}8{\times}10^{-4}cm^2/V{\cdot}s$, $I_{on/off}$ ratios ${\sim}10^3$ in the additive one.

[ ${\pi}-conjugated$ ] organic and polymeric semiconductors are receiving considerable attention because of their suitability as an active layer for electronic devices. An organic inverter with a full swing and a high gain can be obtained through the good qualities of the transfer characteristics of organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs); for example, a low leakage current, a threshold voltage ($V_{th}$) close to 0 V, and a low sub-threshold swing. One of the most critical problems with traditional organic inverters is the high operating voltage, which is often greater than 20 V. The high operating voltage may result in not only high power consumption but also device instabilities such as hysteresis and a shift of $V_{th}$ during operation. In this paper, low-voltage and little-hysteresis pentacene OTFTs and inverters in conjunction with PEALD $Al_{2}O_{3}\;and\;ZrO_{2}$ as the gate dielectrics are demonstrated and the relationships between the transfer characteristics of OTFT and the voltage transfer characteristics (VTCs) of inverter are investigated.
Here, we report a novel fabrication technique for patchable organic lasing sheet based on non-volatile liquid organic semiconductors and freestanding polymeric film with high flexibility and patchability. For this work, we have fabricated the second-order DFB grating structure, which leads to surface emission, embedded in the freestanding polymeric film. Using an ultra-violet (UV) curable polyurethaneacrylate (PUA) mixture, the periodic DFB grating structure can be easily prepared on the freestanding polymeric film via a simple UV curing process. Due to unsaturated acrylate remained in the PUA mixture after UV curing, the freestanding PUA film provides adhesive properties, which enable mounting of the patchable organic lasing sheet onto non-flat surfaces with conformal contact. To achieve laser actions in the freestanding resonator structure, a composite material of liquid 9-(2-ethylhexyl)carbazole (EHCz) and organic laser dyes was used as the laser medium. Since the degraded active materials can be easily refreshed by a simple injection of the liquid composite, such a non-volatile liquid organic semiconducting medium has degradation-free and recyclable characteristics in addition to other strong advantages including tunable optoelectronic responses, solvent-free processing, and ultimate mechanical flexibility and uniformity. Lasing properties of the patchable organic lasing sheet were also investigated after mounting onto non-flat surfaces, showing a mechanical tunability of laser emission under variable surface curvature. It is anticipated that these results will be applied to the development of various patchable optoelectronic applications for light-emitting displays, sensors and data communications.
In this study, we have been synthesized the dielectric layer using pure organic and organic-inorganic hybrid precursor on flexible substrate for improving of the organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) and, design and fabrication of organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) using small-molecule organic semiconductors with pentacene as the active layer with record device performance. In this work OTFT test structures fabricated on polymerized substrates were utilized to provide a convenient substrate, gate contact, and gate insulator for the processing and characterization of organic materials and their transistors. By an adhesion development between gate metal and PI substrate, a PI film was treated using $O_2$ and $N_2$ gas. The best peel strength of PI film is 109.07 gf/mm. Also, we have studied the electric characteristics of pentacene field-effect transistors with the polymer gate-dielectrics such as cyclohexane and hybrid (cyclohexane+TEOS). The transistors with cyclohexane gate-dielectric has higher field-effect mobility, $\mu_{FET}=0.84\;cm^2/v_s$, and smaller threshold voltage, $V_T=-6.8\;V$, compared with the transistor with hybrid gate-dielectric.
In this study. we report the properties of optically pumped stimulated emission at room temperature (RT) from column-III nitride semiconductors of GaN, GaInN, AlGaN/GaN double hetero-structure (DH) and AlGaN/GaInN DH which grown by low pressure metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy on sapphire substrate using an AIN buffer-layer. The peak wavelength of the stimulated emission at RT from AlGaN/GaN DH is 370nm and the threshold of excitation pumping power density (P$\_$th/) is about 89㎾/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and they from AlGaN/GaInN DH are 403nm and 130㎾/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively. The P$\_$th/ of AlGaN/GaN and AlGaN/GaInN DHs are lower than the bulk materials due to optical confinement within the active layers of GaN and GaInN. The optical gain and the polarization of stimulated emission characteristics are presented in this article.
Gas sensors based on metal-oxide-semiconductors are predominantly used in numerous applications including monitoring indoor air quality and detecting harmful substances such as volatile organic compounds. Nanostructures, e.g., nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanodomes, or nanofibers, have been widely utilized to improve the gas sensing properties of metal-oxide-semiconductors by increasing the effective surface area participating in the surface reaction with target gas molecules. Recently, 1-dimensional (1D) metal oxide nanostructures fabricated using glancing angle deposition (GAD) method with e-beam evaporation have been widely employed to increase the surface-to-volume ratio significantly with large-area uniformity and reproducibility, leading to promising gas sensing properties. Herein, we provide a brief overview of 1D metal oxide nanostructures fabricated using GAD and their gas sensing properties in terms of fabrication methods, morphologies, and additives. Moreover, the gas sensing mechanisms and perspectives are presented.
Organic semiconductors such as conjugated polymers and oligomers have been studied many research groups. The band structures of conjugated polymers and oligomers are similar to those of conventional inorganic semiconductors Thin films based on these materials show a promising potential for Field Effect Transistors(FETs) and Light Emitting Diodes(LED) because fabrication processes are simple and cheaper for large electronic devices and flexible devices are also possible.
In recent years, organic thin film transistors OTFTs based on conductive-conjugated molecules have received significant attention. We report a fabrication of organic single crystal nanowires that made on Si substrates by liquid bridge-mediated nanotransfer molding (LB-nTM) with polyurethane acrylate (PUA) mold. LB-nTM is based on the direct transfer of various materials from a stamp to a substrate via a liquid bridge between them. In liquid bridge-transfer process, the liquid layer serves as an adhesion layer to provide good conformal contact and form covalent bonding between the organic single crystal nanowire and the Si substrate. Pentacene is the most promising organic semiconductors. However pentacene has insolubility in organic solvents so pentacene OTFTs can be achieved with vacuum evaporation system. However 6, 13-bis (triisopropylsilylethynyl) (TIPS) pentacene has high solubility in organic solvent that reported by Anthony et al. Furthermore, the substituted rings in TIPS-pentacene interrupt the herringbone packing, which leads to cofacial ${\pi}-{\pi}$ stacking. The patterned TIPS-Pentacene single crystal nanowires have been investigated by Atomic force microscopy (AFM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and electrical properties.
