  • Let G be a finite group and let ν(G) be the probability that two randomly selected elements of G produce a nilpotent group. In this article we show that for every positive integer n > 0, there is a finite group G such that ${\nu}(G)={\frac{1}{n}}$. We also classify all groups G with ${\nu}(G)={\frac{1}{2}}$. Further, we prove that if G is a solvable nonnilpotent group of even order, then ${\nu}(G){\leq}{\frac{p+3}{4p}}$, where p is the smallest odd prime divisor of |G|, and that equality exists if and only if $\frac{G}{Z_{\infty}(G)}$ is isomorphic to the dihedral group of order 2p where Z(G) is the hypercenter of G. Finally we find an upper bound for ν(G) in terms of |G| where G ranges over all groups of odd square-free order.

  • In order to investigate the effects of Raw, Dried and Steamed Roots of Rehmanniae Radix (R.R.: from Wonju province, Korea) on cell-mediated arid humoral immune response, the author performed this experimental study. Delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) and rosette forming cells (RFC) for cell-mediated immune response, hemagglutinin (HA) titers, hemolysin (HL) titers were maeasured in ICR mice. The results were summarized as follows: 1) DTH was increased with the order of Steamed Roots of R.R., Raw Roots of R.R., Dried Roots of R.R.-treated group, as compared with the control group, with statistical significance. 2) RFC were increased with the order of Raw Roots of R.R., Steamed Roots of R.R., Dried Roots of R.R.-treated group, as compared with the control group, with statistical significance. 5) HA titers were increased with the order of Steamed Roots of R.R., Row Roots of R.R., Dried Roots of R.R.treated group, as compared with the control group, with statistical significance. 4) HL. titers were increased with the order of Raw Roots of R.R., Steamed Roots of R.R., Dried Roots of R.R.-treated group, as compared with the control group, with statistical significance. Through in the experimental study in ICR mice, these findings suggest that all of the treated group was increased in cell-mediated immune reaponse, Raw, Steamed Roots of R.R. were increased more as compared with the Dried Roots of R.R., and all of the treated group was increased in humoral immune response, Raw, Steamed Roots of R.R. were increased more as compared with the dried Roots of R.R.

  • (G, <) is an ordered group if'<'is a total order relation on G in which f < g implies that xfy < xgy for all f, g, x, y $\in$ G. We say that (G, <) is centrally ordered if (G, <) is ordered and [G,D] $\subseteq$ C for every convex jump C $\prec$ D in G. Equivalently, if $f^{-1}g f{\leq} g^2$ for all f, g $\in$ G with g > 1. Every order on a torsion-free locally nilpotent group is central. We prove that if every order on every two-generator subgroup of a locally soluble orderable group G is central, then G is locally nilpotent. We also provide an example of a non-nilpotent two-generator metabelian orderable group in which all orders are central.

  • The semiempirical time-dependent Hartree-Fock PM3 calculations have been performed on three polyene systems. In order to study the nonlinear optical properties, we calculated the frequency-dependent first-, second-, and third-order polarizabilities of thiophene-, furan-, pyrrole-nitro polyene systems. The PM3 predicted average and longitudinal polarizabilties increase in the order: thiophene- > pyrrole- > furan-nitro polyene systems. The PM3 predicted limiting average second-order polarizabilities show the order: pyrrole- > furan- > thiophene-nitro polyene systems. The average and longitudinal third-order polarizabilties have the following order: pyrrole- > thiophene- > furan-nitro polyene systems. In these trends, we sugest that pyrrole group is the best donor group among the three polyene systems.

  • In recent years, CA has been applied to image security due to its simple and regular structure, local interaction and random-like behavior. Since the initial state is regenerated after some iterations in the group CA, the receiver is able to decrypt by the same CA. Pries et al. showed that the all lengths of the cycles in the complemented group CA C with rules 195, 153, and 51 are equal to the order of C. Nandi et al. reported the encryption technique using C. These results can be made efficient use in cryptosystem by expanding the Nandi's key space. In this paper, we analyze the order of the complemented group CA derived from 90=150 group CA and show that all the lengths of the cycles in the complemented CA are equal to the order of the complemented CA.

  • To clarify the therapeutic effect of aquapuncture therapy on bovine foot rot, the experimental cattle were divided into control (conventional treatment), aquapuncture and combined treatment groups. Each group was composed of 6 Holstein cows with bovine foot rot. In the present study, the change in grade of lameness, total leukocyte counts, N/L. ratio, mean recovery rates (days) and histopathological changes of interdigital tissue before and after treatment were evaluated. The grade of lameness was decreased by treatment in each group, with the decreasing in order of combined > aquapuncture > control group. In change of total peripheral blood leukocyte counts, the tendency of decrease was found. Significances were detected on 9th day (P < 0.05) in control, on 6th day (P < 0.01) in aquapuncture group, and on 3rd (P < 0.05) and 6th day (P < 0.05) in combined group, respectively. In addition, significances were detected on 3rd and 6th day in aquapuncture, and on 3rd day in combined group by comparison with that of control, respectively. N/L ratio was decreased by therapy in each group with the decreasing in order of combined > aquapuncture ) control group. Significances were detected on 6th day (P < 0.01) between aquapuncture and combined groups. The mean recovery rates(days) were rapid with the decreasing in order of combined > acuapuncture > control group. In histopathological findings of interdigital tissue, the findings of inflammation and hemorrhage were not observed after treatment in each group. In conclusion, it was thought that aquapuncture and combined therapy was very effective on treatment of bovine foot rot.

  • The purpose of this study was to clarify the histologic changes in the expansion of midpalatal suture by the tensile forces. 39 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into a control group (3 rats) and three experimental groups (36 rats) -group 1, pressured with a light force(50-75 g), group 2, with a heavy force(250-300 g) and group 3, with a heavy force (250-300 g) plus laser irradiation. Autoradiographic and histopathologic observations were performed in 12, 24, 48 and 96 hours after force delivery. The results were as follows; 1. The anterior portion of midpalatal suture was more separated than the posterior portion in all experimental groups. Group 2 showed more separation than group 1 and no difference to group 3 2. Ligament tearing appeared intensively in 24 hours, but the sutural matrices increased with times. ; Group 2 showed more tearing than group 1, and active regeneration of sutural matrices was observed in group 3. 3. Vascular dilatation appeared intensively in 24 hours and decreased with times. ; The anterior portion of midpalatal suture showed more dilatation than the posterior portion, ; The changes was the greatest in group 3, group 2, group 1, in that order. 4. New bone formation and the new capillary prolieferation began to appear in 12 hours and increased with times, : Group 2 showed more changes than group 1 and no difference to group 3. 5. Infiltration of inflammatory cells was little observed and was the greatest in group 2, group 1, group 3, in that order 6. Positive reaction of cells to $[^3H]$ thymidine was the greatest in 24 hours, and decreased with times ; The reaction was the greatest in group 3, group 2, group 1, in that order.

  • A computerized chemotherapy order system (CCOS) was developed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of prescriptions for pharmacy medication scheduling at a teaching hospital, Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Korea. We evaluated the system by comparing prescriptions before and after the implementation of the system and by analyzing the effects of the system on dosing accuracy (only against 5-FU), prescription change, overdoses above maximum limit and medication disposal in non computerized program group (control group) and CCOS group. In terms of dosing accuracy, prescription error rate (%) was significantly decreased in CCOS groups compared with the control group. The rate of prescription changes was also significantly decreased in CCOS groups. Regarding overdoses above maximum limit, we found that there was no prescription order exceeding the dosage limit in CCOS groups in contrast to significant overdoses in control group. In terms of medication disposal, there was no significant difference between 2 groups. We suggest that the computerized chemotherapy order system for chemotherapy may bean important and useful tool for minimizing prescribing errors in the hospitals.
