  • A lot of very complex free-form buildings such as Seoul City Office and DDP(Dongdaemun Design Plaza) have been recently built nowadays in domestic. However, as construction methods and cost data are decided without enough discussion and collaboration with specialized subcontractors during design stage, construction quality problems and cost overrun of the free-form buildings are thus occurred during construction stage. Therefore design system and process or contract and ordering system should be developed participating the specialized subcontractors during design stage in order to perfect the free-form design and construction. Especially US has thus an effort to apply IPD(Integrated Project Delivery) system which can solve the problems of construction quality, productivity decrease and cost overrun by constructing the buildings based on exact drawings and collaboration as well as activating BIM(Building Information Modeling). Therefore this study reviews cases of the free-form buildings in domestic and then presents necessity review of IPD in domestic.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the machining technique of the constant control of cutting speed in order to improve precision machining and tool life in high speed machining using ball end mill. Cutting speed is changed in machining free form surface like free form surface. So, we don't have supreme surface form and toll life on machining. The way to solving this problem is that we should be settled to optimal cutting speed in free form surface machining. And, to improve precision machining is executed high speed machining method to output optimum NC data with developed constant control of cutting speed program after modeling of CAD/CAM. In this paper, a comparison was made of the cutting precision and tool life in conventional cutting and those in free form surface machining applying the program developed.

  • In general, ship hull form design is carried out in two stages. In the first stage, the longitudinal variation of the sectional area curves is adapted from a similar mother ship to determine the volume distribution in ships. At this design stage, the initial design conditions of displacement, longitudinal center of buoyancy, etc. are satisfied and the global hydrodynamic properties of the structure are optimized. The second stage includes the local designing of the sectional forms. Sectional forms are related to the local pressure resistance in the fore- and aft-body shapes, cargo boundaries, interaction between the hull and propeller, etc. These relationships indicate that the hull sections need to be optimized in order to minimize the local resistance. The volumetric balanced (VOB) variation of ship hull forms has been suggested by Kim (2013) as a generalized, systematic variation method for determining the sectional area curves in hull form design. This method is characterized by form parameters and is based on an optimization technique. This paper emphasizes on an extensional function of the VOB considering a geometrical wave profile. We select a container ship and an LNG carrier to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed technique. Through analysis, we confirm that the VOB method, considering the geometrical wave profile, can be used as an efficient tool in the hull form design for ships.

  • Rapid urbanization has fostered development of modern cities. Although Conventional zoning played its role to control urban development, it also segregated land uses and created homogeneous development pattern. Mega cities with satellite bed towns has not shown their unique identity and characters. In order to develop comprehensive approach which may bring social and physical enhancement can be difficult to achieve by considering city as a two dimensions. On contrary, extensive analysis and proposals require an approach which can perceive city with three dimensions. Form-Based Codes (FBCs) are appeared as an alternative to conventional zoning with different design process and principles. FBCs approach urban place with three dimension and giving priority to form rather than land use. The purpose of this study was to analyze the necessity of FBCs and its concept, components and how this would change urban characteristics in the aspects of architectural design through analysis on 4 case studies for zoning codes of US cities. Through comparison of components in Form-Based Codes of 4 different cases, this study can show the reasons for differences in application of Form-Based Codes and how detailed components would play a role to establish better urban environments.

  • A tumor immune interaction is a main topic of interest in the last couple of decades because majority of human population suffered by tumor, formed by the abnormal growth of cells and is continuously interacted with the immune system. Because of its wide range of applications, many researchers have modeled this tumor immune interaction in the form of ordinary, delay and fractional order differential equations as the majority of biological models have a long range temporal memory. So in the present work, tumor immune interaction in fractional form provides an excellent tool for the description of memory and hereditary properties of inter and intra cells. So the interaction between effector-cells, tumor cells and interleukin-2 (IL-2) are modeled by using the definition of Caputo fractional order derivative that provides the system with long-time memory and gives extra degree of freedom. Moreover, in order to achieve more efficient computational results of fractional-order system, a discretization process is performed to obtain its discrete counterpart. Furthermore, existence and local stability of fixed points are investigated for discrete model. Moreover, it is proved that two types of bifurcations such as Neimark-Sacker and flip bifurcations are studied. Finally, numerical examples are presented to support our analytical results.

  • Existing XML editors, which are usually tree-based, require knowledge on the XML from users. But this requirement should be removed in order for any user to create XML documents easily. In this paper, we developed a new XML editor which provides both the usual tree-based interface and the form-based interface derided from the original document. Editing XML documents through forms will be especially effective in the places such as enterprise or municipal office where a large amount of documents of same format need to be generated. Forms, which are HTML documents, are generated automatically through the XSLT using both template XML document and XSL document, and displayed on the built-in HTML browser. When a form is filled out by user, it will he transformed into its corresponding XML document and stored into the XML repository.

  • Reliability analysis of composite structures considering random variation of involved parameters is quite important as composite materials revealed large statistical variations in their mechanical properties. The reliability analysis of such structures by the first order reliability method (FORM) and Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) based approach involves repetitive evaluations of performance function. The response surface method (RSM) based metamodeling technique has emerged as an effective solution to such problems. In the application of metamodeling for uncertainty quantification and reliability analysis of composite structures; the finite element model is usually formulated by either classical laminate theory or first order shear deformation theory. But such theories show significant error in calculating the structural responses of composite structures. The present study attempted to apply the RSM based MCS for reliability analysis of composite shell structures where the surrogate model is constructed using higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) of composite structures considering the uncertainties in the material properties, load, ply thickness and radius of curvature of the shell structure. The sensitivity of responses of the shell is also obtained by RSM and finite element method based direct approach to elucidate the advantages of RSM for response sensitivity analysis. The reliability results obtained by the proposed RSM based MCS and FORM are compared with the accurate reliability analysis results obtained by the direct MCS by considering two numerical examples.

  • The purpose of this study is to prescribe formative perspectives as a framework where the aesthetic taste and demands of a certain period are embodied and to develop new analytical tools to examine the beauty of dress in terms of form. First, the theoretical tools selected for this study are Heinrich Wolfflin's formative perspective theory derived from art and Marilyn R. DeLong's framework for visual analysis of dress. Second, several issues that limited the development of a new framework for analyzing the form of dress were identified and addressed. Third, the selected aspects of dress form to be analyzed are specified. They are: silhouette, inner form, structure form, materials and patterns based upon the relationship between the body, dress and space in order to develop new formative perspectives. Based upon these theories a new framework for analyzing dress aesthetics in terms of form is developed. This reconstructed framework consists of three sets of antagonistic representational styles: closed form/open form, linear form/painterly form and multiplicity/unity. Closed form/open form represented in dress can be classified by the clear or obscure silhouette shown not only in the relationship between the dress and space around the dress, but also from changeability or invariability of dress in relation to the body. The material, pattern and various design elements are used as the central criteria to determine the linear/painterly characteristics in dress representations. Finally, the multiplicity/unity can be found in the relationship between the whole and the parts. Multiplicity is represented in dress when the parts have a visual priority over the whole, whereas unity is represented when a dress as a whole has visual priority over the parts. A dress represented with closed form, linear characteristic and multiplicity is perceived as a clear form. In contrast, a dress with open form, painterly characteristic and unity is understood to be an obscure form. It can be said that this study is the first attempt to establish the formative perspectives for analyzing the form of dress in various periods, cultures and races for the future studies.

  • While the advantages of BIM stem in the automatic and efficient assembling amongst the given, single semantic-embedded objects, it is still unknown the efficiency of BIM for developing the form that has more than one functions. To investigate the research question, in an authentic design course, the participants (N=38) assessed the efficiency of BIM when they designed a shop with the single semantic-embedded objects and multi-semantic objects. Independent T-tests reveal that in BIM, the use of the single semantic-embedded objects is statistically more efficient than that of multi-semantic objects (p<0.01). As the reason, in interviews, the participants reported that they had to split down the planned multi-meanings and assign only one meaning to one form in order to utilize the automatic assembling of BIM. Thus, they spent much effort and time for re-coordinating the match between the forms and multi-semantics. The findings of this study highlight the further directions of BIM in order to suit for the empirical practices of architects.
