Here we consider the evaluation of the the dynamic component of the second order force due to wave diffraction by a circular cylinder analytically and numerically. The cylinder is fixed, vertical, surface piercing in water of finite uniform depth. The formulation of the wave-structure interaction is based on the assumption of a homogeneous, ideal, incompressible, and inviscid fluid. The nonlinearity in the wave-structure interaction problem arises from the free surface boundary conditions, namely, dynamic and kinematic free surface boundary conditions. We expand the velocity potential and free surface elevation functions in terms of a small parameter and then consider the second order diffraction problem. After deriving the pressure using Bernoulli's equation, we obtain the analytical expression for the dynamic component of the second order force on the cylinder by integrating the pressure over the wetted surface. The computation of the dynamic force component requires only the first order velocity potential. Numerical results for the dynamic force component are presented.
One of the most difficult problems in depth control for underwater vehicle is the effect of seaway disturbance. One component of the seaway forces is of large magnitude with a relatively narrow-band, first order component. The other component is generaly of somewhat smaller magnitude, second order component. Since the magnitude of the first order component is generally much greater than the compensating force that can be generating by the planes, it is undesirable for the controller to generate a control command. In this paper, we disigned adaptive notch filtering system using filter bank structure. Energies of each band-passed signal are obtained by MA(Moving Average) method and compared to produce center frequency. By adapting this parameter to notch filter, 1st order seaway disturbance can be removed, which lead to the improvement of automatic depth control system.
Make-to-forecast production is a way to realize high customization and fast responsiveness. This study firstly investigates the effect of introducing a common component in a make-to-forecast production environment. The common component can eliminate a modification step, which is a major cost component in make-to-forecast production. It is illustrated, however, that introducing a versatile component that merely covers several variants is unattractive, and thus adding values to the common component is inevitable in this environment. Secondly, an order-matching rule under the condition that two partially overlapped delivery lead time intervals exist is proposed. The rule considers the effect of matching orders to units that can cover both intervals. An alternative re-matching rule is also developed and examined. Numerical experiments clarify that the proposed rule generally realizes higher contribution ratio and lower percentages of orphans and rejected orders. The proposed re-matching rule increases the average contribution ratio at the expense of increased orphans and order rejections.
We consider a supply chain consisting of a make-to-order manufacturer and N component suppliers and study the impacts of the number of suppliers on component inventory management. The manufacturer has full information and continuously observes the state of both component inventory level and customer backorders. Based on this information, the manufacturer determines whether or not to place a component purchasing order to a supplier among N suppliers even though some orders are in process by other suppliers. The goal of this paper is to numerically identify the manufacturer's purchasing policy which minimizes the total supply chain cost and the best choice of N. Our model contributes to the current literature in that the problem of simultaneously considering multiple outstanding orders and incorporating order setup cost into the model has not been covered yet. From numerical experiment, we investigate how much the policy with N suppliers can contribute to reducing the supply cost compared to the policy with a single supplier.
One of the most difficult problems in depth control for underwater vehicle is the effect of seaway disturbance. When a underwater vehicle operates in a near surface environment, the seaway generates essentially two types of stochastic disturbances that influence the boat notion. One component of the seaway forces is of large magnitude with a relatively narrow-band, first order component. The other component is generally of somewhat smaller magnitude, second order component. Since the magnitude of the first order component is generally such greater than the compensating force that can be generating by the planes, it is undesirable for the controller to generate a control command. In this paper, we used LPC(Linear Predictive Coding) processing to uncontrollable seaway disturbance. This method can be used extensively in sensor signal processing of underwater vehicles.
Various methods for blind source separation (BSS) are based on independent component analysis (ICA) which can be viewed as a nonlinear extension of principal component analysis (PCA). Most existing ICA methods require certain nonlinear functions (which leads to higher-order statistics) depending on the probability distributions of sources, whereas PCA is a linear learning method based on second-order statistics. In this paper we show that the PCA can be applied to the task of BBS, provided that source are spatially uncorrelated but temporally correlated. Since the resulting method is based on only second-order statistics, it avoids the nonlinear function and is able to separate mixtures of several colored Gaussian sources, in contrast to the conventional ICA methods.

In this paper, we presents a new methodology for face recognition after analysing conventional ICA(Independent Component Analysis) based approach. In the literature we found that ICA based methods have followed the same procedure without any exception, first PCA(Principal Component Analysis) has been used for feature extraction, next ICA learning method has been applied for feature enhancement in the reduced dimension. However, it is contradiction that features are extracted using higher order moments depend on variance, the second order statistics. It is not considered that a necessary component can be located in the discarded feature space. In the new methodology, features are extracted using the magnitude of kurtosis(4-th order central moment or cumulant). This corresponds to the PCA based feature extraction using eigenvalue(2nd order central moment or variance). The synergy effect of PCA and ICA can be achieved if PCA is used for noise reduction filter. ICA methodology is analysed using SVD(Singular Value Decomposition). PCA does whitening and noise reduction. ICA performs the feature extraction. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the methodology compared to the conventional ICA approach.

Generally, component and FR-4 board are connected by solder joint. Because material properties of components and FR-4 board are different, component and FR-4 board show different coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) and thus strains in component and board are different when they are heated. That is, the differences in CTE of component and FR-4 board cause the dissimilarity in shear strain and BGA solder joint s failure. The first order Taylor series expansion of the limit state function incorporating with thermal fatigue models is used in order to estimate the failure probability of solder joints under heated condition. A model based on plastic-strain rate such as the Coffin-Manson Fatigue Model is utilized in this study. The effects of random variables such as frequency, maximum temperature, and temperature variations on the failure probability of the BGA solder joint are systematically investigated by using a failure probability model with the first order reliability method(FORM).

The method of substructure synthesis o. component mode synthesis(CMS) provides an effective means of dynamic analysis of very large and/or complex structures. In this study, residual dynamic flexibility attachment modes in hybrid component mode synthesis are considered for the purpose of exactly compensating the effect of higher order truncated modes. Following this way, the analysis accuracy of the synthesized structure can be improved effectively with less computational effort. In order to show the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed hybrid component mode synthesis(HCMS), numerical experiments were carried out for the models of a clamped-clamped beam. The results verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.
A component is a reusable and replaceable software module accessed through its interface. Component-based development is expected to shorten the development period, reduce maintenance costs, and improve program reusability and the interoperability of components. This paper proposes a new robot software component platform in order to support the entire process of robot software development. It consists of specifications of a component model, component authoring tool, component composer, and component execution engine. To show its feasibility, this paper presents the analysis results of the component's communication overhead, a comparison with other robotic software platforms, and applications in commercial robots.
