In the present work, the optimization of machining parameters to achieve the desired technological parameters such as surface roughness, tool radial vibration and material removal rate have been carried out using response surface methodology (RSM). The hard turning of EN19 alloy steel with coated carbide (GC3015) cutting tools was studied. The main problem faced in manufacturer of hard and high precision components is the selection of optimum combination of cutting parameters for achieving required quality of surface finish with maximum production rate. This problem can be solved by development of mathematical model and execution of experiments by RSM. A face centred central composite design (FCCD), which comes under the RSM approach, with cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut) was used for statistical analysis. A second-order regression model were developed to correlate the cutting parameters with surface roughness, tool vibration and material removal rate. Consequently, numerical and graphical optimization were performed to obtain the most appropriate cutting parameters to produce the lowest surface roughness with minimal tool vibration and maximum material removal rate using desirability function approach. Finally, confirmation experiments were performed to verify the pertinence of the developed mathematical models.
As the industrial development is accelerated, a new machining process and system are keenly required to achieve super precision surface finish. Especially to get ground surface finish fer complicated and narrow inner shape of molds, it is impossible with the existing methods so that a new method is being required to be developed. A new material, called Magic(MAGnetic Intelligent Compounds), is finally made and it is called Magic machining that uses this material. There is a way to make a material as follows, the mixture of magnetic particles, bonding material and particles of abrasive grain should be melt down by proper heat, and then this mixture put in a mold and cool down in magnetic field which has a uniform direction. This new polishing method is spotlighted as an excellent solution to the existing problems. However it hasn't reported any study about the influence of the machining conditions of polishing velocity, amplitude and polishing pressure to the surface roughness yet. This study would examine closely the influence of polishing conditions of the Magic polishing tool to the surface finish to decide the optimum polishing condition and to standardize the Magic polishing work.
Resently, reduction of industrial products in size and weight has increased by the application of micro-drill for gadgets of high precision and gave rise to a great interest in a micro-drilling. Due to the lack of tool stiffness and the chip packing, micro-drilling requires not only the robust tool structure which has not affected by the vibration, but also the effective drilling methods designed to prevent tool fracture from cutting troubles. Firstly, this paper presents a optimum characteristic evaluation method of 0.15mm microdrill in consideration of new manufacturing processes for improving the product rate and extend the tool life, and secondly suggest between microdrilling characteristic properties of tool md evaluation of workpiece quality through experiment.
A small mixed-type turbine with a diameter of 19.9 mm has been substituted for a rotational part of pencil-type air tool. Usually, a vane-type rotor is applied to the rotational part of the air tool. However, the vane-type rotor has some problems, such as friction, abrasion, and necessity of accurate assembly etc.,. These problems make the life time of the vane-type air tool short, but air tools operated by mixed-type turbines are free of friction and abrasion because the turbine rotor dose not contact with the casing. Moreover, it is assembled easily because of no axis offset. These characteristics are merits for using air tools, but loss of power is inevitable on a non-contacting type rotor due to flow loss, tip clearance loss, and profile loss etc.,. In this study, four different rotors are tested, and their characteristics are investigated by measuring the specific output power. Additionally, optimum nozzle location against the rotor is studied. Output powers are obtained through measured pressure, temperature, torque, rotational speed, and flow rate. The experimental results obtained with four different rotors show that the rotor blade shape greatly influences to the performance, and the optimum nozzle location exists near the mid span of the rotor.
The main objectives of this paper are to determine optimum cutting conditions using experimental design method to manufacture pedicle screws. Generally, titanium alloys are known as difficult-to cut materials. In the machining of titanium alloy, high cutting temperature and strong chemical affinity between the tool and the work material are generated because of Its low thermal conductivity and chemical reactivity. Such phenomenon cause increase of tool wear and deterioration of surface quality. Thus, in this paper, required experimental investigations are performed to evaluate the machinability of titanium materials With tungsten carbide tools Required simulation and experiments are performed, and the results are investigated.
This paper presents a new method for cutting steel with a diamond tool using electrolysis. The electrolysis is adopted in the diamond cutting to prevent the high chemical activity between a diamond tool and an iron-based workpiece. The basic principle of the method is to oxdize a thin substrate of the workpiece by electrolysis ahead of the diamond tool which cuts the oxidized layer. A desired shape can be obtained by repeating this process. The cutting force is reduced because the diamond tool removes only the weakened material by electroysis. The reduction of the cutting force suppresses the excessive wear of the diamond tool. The oxidization penetrates several micrometers in depth along the previously formed shape. The corrosion rates depend on current density and make suggestions on the optimum cutting conditions.
Micro spherical lens mold processing method based on mechanical one completes a spherical shape by setting a diamond tool of hundreds $\mu$m radius on spins with high speed and then using Z-axis vertical feeding motion like the fabrication of micro drilling. In this method, we can see unprocessed parts shaped like cylinder and cone and check increasing chatter marks and burrs by setting errors of the central axis of rotation on the edge of the tool. That is why this method doesn't suit for the optical lens mold. In this paper presents unprocessed parts are disappeared and chatter marks and burrs are decreased from centre of the lens after using Run-out measuring and setting system on run-out occurred from setting tool. Also the fabrication characteristics of 6:4 Brass, A1601, PMMA are compared and analyzed, establishing the optimum machining condition on each material.
This paper is studied for the improvement of the characteristics of gate oxide with 3-nm-thick gate oxide by deuterium ion implantation methode. Deuterium ions were implanted to account for the topography of the overlaying layers and placing the D peak at the top of gate oxide. A short anneal at forming gas to nitrogen was performed to remove the damage of D-implantation. We simulated the deuterium ion implantation to find the optimum condition by SRIM (stopping and range of ions in matter) tool. We got the optimum condition by the results of simulation. We compare the electrical characteristics of the optimum condition with others terms. We also analyzed the electrical characteristics to change the annealing conditions after deuterium ion implantation. The results of the analysis, the breakdown time of the gate oxide was prolonged in the optimum condition. And a variety of annealing, we realized the dielectric property that annealing is good at longer time. However, the high temperature is bad because of thermal stress.
MgO single crystal is widely used as a the material of high temperature resistance, but is difficult to grind because of brittleness and crack generation. Therefore, superabrasive diamond wheel is required for mirror like grinding of this material. This study describes a newly proposed optimum in-process electrolytic dressing system for carrying out effective dressing of superbrasive diamond wheel. Using this system the grinding surface of MgO single crystal was improved, the grinding force was very l9ow and crack was removed. In conclusion, this system is good to obtain the efficient grinding and mirror-like grinding without crack of MgO single crystal.

Laser-assisted machining (LAM) is known to be an effective and economical technique for improving the machinability of difficult-to-machine materials. In the LAM method, material is preheated using a laser heat source and then the preheated area is removed by following cutting tool. For laser-assisted turning (LAT), the configuration of the system is not complicated because laser irradiates from a fixed position. In contrast, laser-assisted milling (LAMill) system is not only complicated but also difficult to control because laser heat source must always move ahead of the cutting tool along a three dimensional (3D) tool path. LAMill is still early stage and cannot yet be used to machine finished products with 3D shapes. In this study, a laser-assisted fillet milling process was developed for machining 3D shapes. There are no prior studies combining fillet milling and LAMill. Laser-assisted fillet milling strategy was proposed, and effective depth of cut (EDOC) was obtained using thermal analysis. Experiments were designed using response surface method and cutting force prediction equations were developed using statistical analysis and regression analysis. The optimum machining conditions were also proposed, and energy efficiency of the LAMill was analyzed by comparing the specific cutting energy of conventional machining (CM) and LAMill.
