  • A method of finding optimal linear restriction on regression parameters in linear model for mixture experiments in the sense of minimizing integrated mean squared error is studied. We use the formulation of optimal restrictions on regression parameters for estimating responses proposed by Park(1981) by transforming mixture components to mathematically independent variables.

  • Decision analysis has becomes an important technique for decision making in the face of uncertainty. It is characterized by enumerating all the available courses of action, identifying the payoffs for all possible outcomes, and quantifying the subjective probabilities for the all possible random events. When the data are available, decision analysis becomes a powerful tool for determining an optimal course of action. In this paper, we use the analytic hierarchy process in weights calculating. For the purpose of making optimal decision, the data of three different smart phones models are used.

  • This paper suggests optimal accelerated constant stress life tests in Exponential distribution. The relationship between the log-mean life and the loaded stress is assumed to be linear. Optimal plans considering mean square errors of maximum likelihood estimators of the log mean life and test costs are obtained. We consider accelerated life tests with two stress levels, and as data types, failure censoring( type II) and time censoring(type I) data are used. We propose the procedure to obtain the optimal plans for each case. Some examples are also included.

  • A genetic algorithm to determine the optimal signal sequence and double cycle pattern is described. The signal sequence and double cycle pattern are used as the input for TRANSYT to find optimal signal timing at each junction in the area traffic networks, In the genetic process, the partially matched crossover and simple crossover operators are used for evolution of signal sequence and double cycle pattern respectively. A special conversion algorithm is devised to convert the signal sequence into the link-stage assignment for TRANSYT. Results from tests using data from an area traffic network in Leicester region R are given.

  • This paper proposes an optimal incentive scheme for environmental pollution and output control in oligopoly markets under asymmetric information situation where the regulator has no information about each firm's technology on output productions and pollution abatements. We compare two interesting optimal incentive schemes (one is static model previously proposed and the other is dynamic model suggested in this paper), analyze features of these schemes, and carefully discuss its relevances to other schemes.

  • This paper deals with the problem of determining the optimal inventory-transportation policy of the idealistically simple inventory-transportation system with the following assumptions: (1) The system consists of a single central warehouse and a single local warehouse, (2) The planning horizon is finite, (3) Demand rate is fixed costant, and so forth. Developed is the algorithm by which to identify the optimal inventory policy which minimizes the total cost incurred to the system over the given finite planning horizon. A sample numerical example is presented along with a discussion of the possible applications of the approach used n the algorithm.

  • In this study, we deals with the implementation of an optimal basis identification procedure for interior point methods. Our implementation is based on Megiddo’s strongly polynomial algorithm applied to Andersen and Ye’s approximate LP construction. Several techniques are explained such as the use of effective indicator for obtaining optimal partition when constructing the approximate LP, the efficient implementation of the problem reduction technique proposed by Andersen, the crashing procedure needed for fast dual phase of Megiddo’s algorithm and the construction of the stable initial basis. By experimental comparison, we show that our implementation is superior to the crossover scheme implementation.

Optimal Inspection Plan for a Flexible Assembly Line

  • This paper considers inspection station location problem for a flexible assembly line that consists of multiple stages. By considering the trade-off between locating an station at an "early" stage and at a "late" stage, we have developed some dominance relations on a graph. Based on the dominance relations, we then present an algorithm that finds an optimal inspection plan and a heuristic approach that finds a near-optimal inspection plan. The effectiveness of these two algorithms is demonstrated by two numerical examples. numerical examples.

  • Applying Bayesian optimal design principles is not easy when a prior distribution is not certain. We present a optimal design criterion which possibly yield a reasonably good design and also robust with respect to misspecification of the prior distributions. The criterion is applied to the problem of estimating the turning point of a quadratic regression. Exact mathematical results are presented under certain conditions on prior distributions. Computational results are given for some cases not satisfying our conditions.
