  • In higher education, integration of technologies - particularly generative artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT - has become increasingly widespread, serving numerous purposes to its stakeholders. While users acknowledge the utility of technology, concerns have emerged regarding its misuses. The present study is designed to investigate authentic perspectives and opinions of college freshman students to critically address the relevant concerns, and suggest meaningful solutions. To this end, seven college freshman student participants were recruited in a four-days-long online questionnaire. Their responses indicated that the college student participants appear to find ChatGPT positive in terms of its practicality and usefulness. However, they also showed concerns about a few potential issues (i.e., possible plagiarism and copyright problems). With recommendations the student participants suggested to reduce the aforementioned problems, the article discusses implications of the findings, providing valuable insights into the balance between implementation of AI technologies and dealing with the associated challenges in higher education in general.

  • This study has developed the sex education contents including new natural family plan, concept and principle by receiving the opinions and advices from professionals and professors on sex education, by amending and supplementing existing teaching materials on sex, and examining the books related with sex education contents that reflect the request of teachers and students, and the lack of sex education teaching materials which have been the reason that needs of school sex education has been highly recognized but not vitalized. The developed sex education contents are 8 areas such as knowing my body right, caring my body, observing the ability of being pregnant, marriage, sexual intercourse, process of pregnancy, miscarriage, and sexual violence, 30 lower areas, and 105 detailed contents in their composition, and here are the results of analyses of the degree of request of nurse teachers and the students on them. The teachers showed highest request in the area of sexual violence(M =4.67), the next was my body care(M=4.44), knowing my body right(M =4.38), process of pregnancy(M=4.13), marriage(M=4.11) and sexual intercoursen (M=3.98), ways of judging the ability of being pregnant(M=3.88), and miscarriage(M=3.72) showed comparative higher request than normal. Not like the teachers, the students showed that they requested Marriage area as the highest need(M=3.04) and next was sexual violence(M=3.02), caring my body(M=3.00) to have been higher than normal. Process of pregnancy(M=2.99), Sexual intercourse(M=2.81), miscarriage(M = 2.77), observation of the ability of being pregnant(M=2.74), and knowing my body right(M=2.70) have been the requests lower than normal. This study showed that sexual violence, marriage, caring my body, were the items most requested by both the leacgers and students and in elementary school the development of sex education teaching materials on natural family plan suitable to the level of development of the children has been requested as it has had no inclusion of the concept of natural family plan, and the students in elementary school are concerned on indirect sexual contents related with physical health like regular exercise rather than direct sexual education contents including sexual intercourse. All these show that they are still so naive on sex. The sense of the teachers on sex has been connected with the level of achievement of sex education of the children as it has been the important cause of deciding the contents of sex education. Therefore the materials developed onesidedly by leaders without reflecting the needs or the preference of the students might be worries of bringing shameful. low quality and negative opinions on sex, and on the other hand the children might lose the concerns and interest on sex education, So the materials should be developed to have the contents of sex education coinciding with the request of the children.

The subject of the present study included 229 male students (53.8%) and 197 female students (46.2%), totalling 426 students from Kunsan University. The subjects consisted of 56 underweight (13.1%), 265 with normal weight (62.2%), and 105 overweight (24.6%). Especially, in females, 20.8% of them were underweight, which is 6.6% higher than males, showing a significant difference (p<0.001). Regarding body image, 21.8% of the males thought they were fat, while 40.6% of the females thought they were fat. Regarding the perceived body type, shown in the difference between their own size and the ideal size, males recorded 0.03, while females recorded 1.75, showing a major significant difference (p<0.001). Regarding body satisfaction, 33.2% of the males were unsatisfied, while 52.8% of the females were unsatisfied (p<0.001). The social expectations of the male subjects' sizes and weights recorded 2.04, while that of females recorded -2.51, showing that people's opinions expected the female subjects' bodies to be thinner (p<0.001). Additionally, the social expectation of the subjects' weight control recorded an average of 15.22 (13.92 for males, 16.73 for females), showing that the female subjects' felt that people's opinions wished them to lose their weight (p<0.001). Regarding the recognition on weight control, interested males were 49.4%, while interested females were 86.8%, showing the females superior rate (p<0.001). The beliefs in relation to weight control recorded an average of 62.01, with the score of females of 67.89 being significantly higher than that of males which was 56.96. The subjects showed a relatively positive response towards weight control (p<0.001). EAT-26 score was employed to determine the eating attitudes in relation to gender. Here, the final score of males was 15.46, which was significantly lower than that of females, which was 22.21 (p<0.001). Furthermore, regarding the score of eating attitudes in relation to obesity index, the eating disorder scale scores on the questions related to bulimia and diets to lose weight as weight increases were high. However, the eating disorder scale score on oral control, which actually controls food, was low. To control the expansion of excessive weight control attempts and their side effects, the recognition of the students' body types needs to be corrected, and nutrition education programs on eating habits and eating disorders to foster proper weight loss are deemed necessary.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the factors affecting interactions as well as the students' learning process in small group activities. For this purpose, the changes and characteristics of students' interactions in scientific inquiry experiments were analyzed. This study focused on 2 homogeneous small groups of eighth graders. Students were involved in 13 inquiry experiments for one year and students' interactions in each experiments were observed and recorded using video/audio and the data recorded were transcribed. The analysis of data was based on the method of making a note by looking on and listening to the data repeatedly. Changes in the interactions of the two homogeneous groups differ remarkably. In small group A, owing to the conflicts of students' emotions, learning through social interactions became to be impossible. On the other hand, the interactions in small group B became more active. It seems that this changes are affected largely by the existence of peers who are able to mediate different opinions or feelings among group members. In general, middle school students were poor at receiving peers' opinion, cared a lot about writing reports. The less able students tended to be placed at a disadvantageous position in experiment lessons emphasizing social interactions. Four factors that affected the change of interactions were identified: Is the aim of experiments the understanding or completion of report? Is there any attitude towards peers' suggestions? Is there a disposition to care about peers? Is there any peer to mediate on peers' opinions or feelings? Educational implications of the progression of activities emphasizing interactions and the organization of grouping were drawn.

  • This study aims to examine the educational effects of the SSI program using Digital Storytelling (DST) approaches. Since DST provides students opportunities to express their own opinions in the form of stories and to share learning outcomes through the web, we developed and implemented SSI program by adopting the concept of DST in order to produce synergistic effects on student learning. Twenty-four 9th graders who enthusiastically engaged in the DST-based SSI program participated in this study. The students responded to focus group interviews after the instruction, and all interviews were transcribed for analysis. The results indicated that the students became aware of socio-ethical perspectives of each SSI topic while searching and collecting data by themselves. They also felt the necessity to consider multiple perspectives around the issues by having discussions with group members. Second, pre-producing DST allowed students to negotiate to settle on a group discussion, and to use emotional contents that can lead viewers to have sympathy. In addition, while producing DST, students considered various factors such as design, soundtrack, visual effects, and screen composition in order to express their opinions and convey their messages more effectively. In the stage of sharing DST outcomes and receiving feedback, they realized new perspectives that they did not perceive in the previous production process, and to move them into an action for resolving the problems caused by SSI. This study showed the potentials of DST-based SSI instruction as a good strategy to support students' SSI engagement.
