  • Typical automotive opening parts, i. e. hood trunk lid and door, are made through the press operations such as drawing, trimming, flanging, and hemming. The dimensional accuracy of stamped panels is mainly dependent on the drawing operation. However, the gap between outer panels and opening parts, which is important to the appearance quality of the assembled body, is directly influenced by the flanging and hemming operation. In this study, the relation between the design parameters of the hemming operation and the defect of roll-in is shown. The effects of some design parameters on the gap are examined using CAE. furthermore, the simulated results of the hemmed part of tailgate comer are shown and discussed.

  • This paper presents a development of computer aided cutting tool selection techniques for rough and finish turning operations. The developed system,. which is one of important activities for computer aided operation planning, firstly implements operation sequencing. Then, from relations of the size of machined area, recommended finishing allowance and maximum depth of cut, a main machining method is selected, a number of cut is calculated, cutting tools including toolholders and inserts are selected, and values for cutting parameters are determined. A cutting tool selection procedure is proposed for toolholders and inserts of ISO code in rough cutting, and some important parameters such as holder style, tool approach angle, tool function and its direction are described in detail. In order to demonstrate the validity of the system a case study is performed.

  • Grinding is a finishing operation of products in various areas. Surface roughness of industrial components obtained in grinding operation is a critical quality measure but is a function of many operating parameters and their interactions. To achieve higher surface roughness and to identify the influence of grinding parameters on surface roughness, it is an ideal situation fer using the design of experiments. This paper presents an successful optimization of grinding conditions and prediction of surface roughness using the design of experiments. From the experimental verification tests, it was observed that this approach was useful as a robust design methodology for grinding operation.

  • Radial, tilting-pad proceeding bearings are applied in high speed rotating machines operating at stable small and mean loads and the peripheral speeds of proceeding reaching 150 m/s. The operation of bearing can be determined by static characteristics including the oil film pressure, temperature and viscosity distributions, minimum oil film thickness, load capacity, power loss, oil flow. The operation of 5-lobe tilted-pad proceeding bearing has been introduced at the assumption of adiabatic oil film. The oil film pressure, temperature and viscosity distributions habe received by iterative solution of the Reynolds', energy and viscosity equations. The resulting oil film force, minimum oil film thickness, power loss. oil flow, maximum oil film pressure, maximum temperature were computed for different sets of bearing geometric parameters as: bearing length to diameter ratio, pad angular length and width as well as pad relative clearance.

  • This paper describes the calculation of the equivalent circuit parameters according to the slip in squirrel-cage induction motor. Recently, the induction motor is demanded of the various operation condition. In order to acquire the accurate characteristic for the operation condition of the motor, equivalent circuit parameters have to be calculated accurately. So the equivalent circuit parameters are computed by using the finite element method, the reliable characteristic analysis is carried out by application of the parameter to the equivalent circuit analysis. From the analysis result using this combined equivalent circuit and finite element method is compared with the experimental results by a detailed equivalent circuit, the validity of the method is proved.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the mechanism of failure modes in bi-directional phase-shift full-bridge converters, composed of MOSFET, based on the circuit operation and parasitic parameters of MOSFET. In addition, the relation between circuit operation and parameters is suggested through an experimental comparison. From this relation, the suitable ranges of parameters for stable performance are analyzed. The design criteria of the bi-directional phase-shift full-bridge converter are presented and evaluated from the experimental verification.

  • The Westinghouse OT$\Delta$T DNB protection logic heavily restricts the operation region by applying the same logic for a full range of operating pressure in order to maintain its simplicity. In this work, a fuzzy neural network method is used to estimate the DNB protection limit using the measured average temperature and pressure of a reactor core. Fuzzy system parameters are optimized by a hybrid learning method. This algorithm uses a gradient descent algorithm to optimize the antecedent parameters and a least-squares algorithm to solve the consequent parameters. The proposed method is applied to Yonggwang 3&4 nuclear power plants and the proposed method has 5.99 percent larger thermal margin than the conventional OT$\Delta$T trip logic. This simple algorithm provides a good information for the nuclear power plant operation and diagnosis by estimating the DNB protection limit each time step.

  • In the continuous cutting process such as turning operation, chip control is thought very important to achieve the unmanned manufacturing system. The prediction of chip breakage under the given conditions is a substantial element for chip control. In this paper, a systematic approach to know the chip breaking region is represented under the concept of equivalent parameters. to Verify the suggested model, cutting experiments are executed with a commercial type and two other type chip breakers which have modified chip breaker parameters such as land width, groove width and nose radius. predicted chip breaking regions using the 3D cutting model agrees with those obtained from the experiments.
