Reverse electrodialysis (RED), which generates electrical energy from the difference in concentration of two solutions, has been actively studied owing to its high potential and the increased interest in renewable energy resulting from the Paris Agreement on climate change. For RED commercialization, its power density needs to be maximized, and therefore various methods have been discussed. In this paper, the power density was measured using various flow shapes based on the aspect ratio, opening ratio, and number of distribution channels. We found that the power density is enhanced with a decrease in the aspect ratio and an increase in the opening ratio and number of distribution channels.
SS41 material is welded automatically and is investigated some effects of the welding residual stress on the growth and propagation of fatigue crack, so as to study the fatigue behaviour in the welding residual stress field. The summarized results are as follows; 1) In case of the load amplitude is constant, as the stress ration is changing to 0.1, 0.33 and 0.5 the propagation life is constant but the initiation life decreases. And than, when maximum load or minimum load is constant, s the stress ration increases the initiation life and propagation life. 2) It was shown that the fatigue crack propagation ratio da/dn was almost constant regardless of the stress ratio change at constant load amplitude and that the larger stress ratio, the slower was the fatigue crack propagation ratio. 3) The opening ratio U is influenced by $K_{max}$ but it isn't only the function of $K_{max}$ because data range is very large. 4) The fatigue life of the specimens on tensile compressive residual stress field was decreased and increased respectably more than that of the base metal.

This paper discusses about results of advanced buckling strength design for several kinds of perforated plated in the twin-hull car-ferry. For medium / small sized high speed vessels with a length of more than 50 meters and a length / width ratio of more than 12, such as car-ferries, it is highly possible that the buckling strength becomes weak due to the relatively thin thickness and the use of low strength capacity such as mild steel. Especially, it becomes big problem about weak buckling rigidity around the opening to access purpose in the perforated. As regarding safety design point of view for perforated plate, it is necessary to clarify buckling strength and ultimate strength by the distribution of in-plane load distribution around the opening. In this study, nonlinear series analysis using ANSYS was performed to clarify the influence of parameters such as aspect ratio, opening ratio and opening shape affecting the buckling and ultimate strength characteristics of the perforated plate under axial compression and we are derived the optimum design as buckling strength point of view. Based on these results, the governing factor determining the buckling strength of the perforated plate was the opening ratio, and the aspect ratio and the shape of the hole were not influenced.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the mandibular opening and closing movements at mandibular incisor region and clinical rest position in normal subject using the newly developed electric mandibular movement analyzing device, (M.K.G.-K6 diagnostic system, Myo-tronics Inc. Seattle, WA, U.S.A.) The 58 normal subjects, who were students of the College of Dentistry, Chonbuk National University, were selected according to sampling criteria. The obtained results were as follows: 1. There was no significant difference of distribution of opening and closing movement patterns at mandibular incisor region between male and female. There was significant difference between habitual and maximum movement patterns both in sagittal and frontal plane. 2. Although the percentage of distribution of crossover pattern was highest in all cases, but there were significant differences between patterns only at habitual opening and closing movement in sagittal plane. 3. The mean of maximum opening was $47.29{\pm}4.68mm$ in male and $42.15{\pm}4.95mm$ in female. Therefore the mean of maximum opening was larger in male than in female. 4. The mean of maximum laterotrusion in frontal trajectory was larger to the left than to the right. Also the proportion of left deviation at maximum opening position was larger than that of other cases. 5. The mean of maximum opening and closing velocity was higher in male than in female and the mean of closing velocity was higher than that of opening velocity. Also the amount of separation from the centric occlusion was higher in maximum closing velocity than in maximum opening velocity. 6. Clinical rest position was $1.70{\pm}0.99mm$ inferior, $0.74{\pm}0.57mm$ anterior, $0.99{\pm}0.51mm$ right from centric occlusion and the A/V ratio was 1:2.7.

Shock tube flow measurement has been often troubled with a finite opening time of diaphragm, but there is no systematic work to investigate its effect on the shock tube flow. In the present study, both the experimental and computational works have been performed on the shock tube flows at low pressure ratios. The computational analysis has been performed using the two-dimensional, unsteady, compressible Navier-Stokes equations, based upon a TVD MUSCL finite difference scheme. It is known that the present computational results reproduce the experimental data with good accuracy and simulate successfully the process of diaphragm opening as a function of time. The concept of an imaginary center is introduced to specify the non-centered expansion wave due to a finite opening time of diaphragm. The results obtained show that the diaphragm opening time is reduced as the initial pressure ratio of shock tube increases, leading to the effect of a finite opening time of diaphragm to be more remarkable at low pressure ratios.
Wind-induced fluctuating internal pressures in a building with a dominant opening can be described by a second-order non-linear differential equation. However, the accuracy and efficiency of the governing equation in predicting internal pressure fluctuations depend upon two ill-defined parameters: inertial coefficient $C_I$ and loss coefficient $C_L$, since $C_I$ determines the un-damped oscillation frequency of an air slug at the opening, while $C_L$ controls the decay ratio of the fluctuating internal pressure. This study particularly focused on the value of loss coefficient and its influence factors including: opening configuration and location, internal volumes, as well as wind speed and approaching flow turbulence. A simplified formula was presented to predict loss coefficient, therefore an approximate relationship between the standard deviation of internal and external pressures can be estimated using Vickery's approach. The study shows that the loss coefficient governs the peak response of the internal pressure spectrum which, in turn, will directly influence the standard deviation of the fluctuating internal pressure. The approaching flow characteristic and opening location have a remarkable effect on the parameter $C_L$.
The purpose of this study is to compare the combustability of the formed high density polyethylene (HDPE) with the low density polyethlyene(LDPE). That is, the easiness of ignition is examined by using the methods with Oxygen Index(OI) Tester and ventilation parameter, and the combustion velocity of these polyethylenes is measured by changing the size and shape of opening area. As the result of it, the oxygen index of HDPE, in a ignition, is required more than LDPE. Then, the concentration distribution of CO by combustion is increased when the opening area is small, but, in the same opening area, LDPE tends to increase more than HDPE. In addition, as the ratio of height to width of opening area is increased, combustion velocity becomes faster relatively. In consequence, when it is generally considered, the combustability of LDPE is better than HDPE.

This paper has the objects of deciding dynamic instability regions of thick plates on Pasternak foundation by finite element method and providing kinematic design data for mats and slabs of building structures. In this paper, dynamic stability analysis of tapered opening thick plate is done by use of Serendipity finite element with 8 nodes considering shearing strain of plate. To verify this finite element method, buckling stress and natural frequencies of thick pate with or without in-plane stress are compared with existing solutions. The results are as follow that this finite element solutions with 4x4 meshes are shown the error of maximum 0.56% about existing solutions, and obtained dynamic instability graph according with variation of opening positions.
Various studies on lighting energy savings are conducted, given that lighting energy consumption accounts 23.5% of building energy consumption. Especially, external type light shelf's efficiency is acknowledged; however, its application is limited in Korea, where high rise building ratio is high, due to high wind pressure. This study delves into natural lighting system to cope with wind pressure, and proposes the punching plate-installed light shelf. This study actually draws lighting energy output, according to whether the punching plate is applied through the test-bed, and verifies the effectiveness of the punching plate-installed light shelf. The conclusion is presented below: First) The result of performance evaluation of light shelf with the punching plate in winter solstice showed that the awning area decreased as the opening ratio increased so that the indoor distributed illumination tended to increase, and $-40^{\circ}$ which was advantageous for awning was determined as the proper angle. Second) The light shelf with the punching plate in spring/autumn equinox shows improved lighting according to the angle, and the appropriate angle of light shelf with the punching plate has increased to $15^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ according to the opening ratio in comparison to $5^{\circ}C$ which is the appropriate angle of light shelf with no punching plate due to the reflection area reduced by the reflecting plate with holes. Third) The result of performance evaluation of light shelf with the punching plate in summer solstice showed that the lighting performance tended to decrease as the opening ratio increased. 4) The light shelf with the punching plate incurs a 50% energy loss in comparison to the light shelf with no punching plate. However, its effectiveness has been proven in the aspects that it can bring a 50% energy saving in comparison to the case with no installation of light shelf and that it can be designed in response to wind pressure on the high floors.
The quality of oak mushoom(Lentinus edodes(Berk) Sing) is sensitively affected by environmental factors, especially moisture by the rain during the growing period. To protect mushrooms from being wet, plastic-covered facilities with side openings are mostly being used. However, the indoor temperature and humidity f the facility without roof opening become higher due to its poor ventilation, and consequently reduce the productivity and quality as well. In this study, we analyzed the ventilation rates and indoor temperatures of improved facilities as affected by the area of roof opening and shading rate by the model. The indoor temperature decreased by more than 2.5$^{\circ}C$ as the shading rate increased from 50% to 90%, and especially the effect of wind speed on indoor temperature was significantly great under as low as 50% of shading rate. The ventilation rate became higher under wind speed of 1~2m.s-1 regardless of the shading rate. As the wind speed increased from 0m.s-1 to 2m.s-1, the indoor temperature decreased by more than 2.$0^{\circ}C$. Moreover, the indoor temperature became lower with increasing roof opening ratio, but showed no significant differences at more than 50% of roof opening ratio. At lower shading rate, the indoor temperature sensitively decreased with increasing area of roof opening. Additionally, we obtained the higher ventilation performance with the area of roof opening more or less equal to side opening, regardless of the wind speed and shading rate.
