지식의 탐색(Exploration)과 활용(Exploitation)이 개방형협업의 성과에 미치는 영향: 오픈소스 소프트웨어 개발 프로젝트를 중심으로 (Impacts of Exploitation and Exploration on Performance of Open Collaboration: Focus on Open Source Software Development Project)

  • With rapid development of information and communication technologies, open collaboration can be eased through the Internet. Open source software, as a representative area of open collaboration, is developed and adopted to various fields. In this research, based on organizational learning theory, we examine the impacts of exploration and exploitation on innovation performance in open source software development projects. We define knowledge exploration as a number of developers from outside organization and knowledge exploitation as the ratio of member of an organization who participated in an open source software project managed by the organization. For analysis, we collect data of 4794 projects from github which is a representative open source software development platform using Web crawler developed by Python. As a result, we find that excessive exploration has curvilinear (invers U-shape) relationship on project performance. On the other hand, exploitation with enough external developers will positively impact on project performance.

오픈소스 DBMS의 성능 품질 평가 (Evaluating the Performance Quality of Open Source Database Management Systems)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance quality of the open source DBMSs. Performance quality is defined as processing time for Join queries. Query processing time is measured and compared in the most widely used open source DBMSs and commercial DBMS. Methods: By varying the number of tuples of two relations to be joined, the average processing time(seconds) of a Join query in each DBMS was obtained experimentally. ANOVA and Tukey HSD test were used in order to compare the performance quality of DBMSs. Results: There was a significant difference between the performance qualities of the three DBMSs at all experimental levels where the number of tuples was 100, 1,000, 2,000, 10,000, and 50,000. As a result of the Tukey HSD test, two open source DBMSs (MariaDB, MySQL) were classified in the same group only at the tuple level of 100. The commercial DBMS (MS-SQL Server) belonged to another group. At level of more than 1,000 tuples, all three DBMSs belonged to different groups. Conclusion: Within the open source DBMS group, MariaDB showed the better performance quality except for a small number of tuples. Thus the results show that MariaDB can be the alternative to MySQL which is currently most widely used. Between open source DBMS and commercial DBMS groups, MS-SQL Server always shows the best performance quality, but the less number of tuples, the less the difference.

  • Most of enterprises use various applications for serving their routine business. One of most widespread applications is the enterprise resource planning (ERP). This paper focuses on open source ERP software and aims to find out what benefits it can bring to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) comparing to proprietary ERP. To serve the purpose, this paper introduces the successful adoption of open source ERP software through the case study of small Vietnamese firm. The results of this paper show the advantage of open source ERP software and the possibility of adoption for SME.

Analysis of the Open Source Software Sector in China

  • The paper describes the status and context of the Chinese Open Source Software (OSS) industry and ecosystem based on the analysis of the components of the China OSS Promotion Union. The analysis involves comparisons of several main Chinese developers of Linux operating system and makers of open source counterpart of the popular Microsoft Office package as well as several main Chinese OSS communities. Comparisons concern the technological and business aspect. The findings reveal peculiarities of the divergence of innovative activities of Chinese companies, as well as indicate that the strong government support may at the same time limit the technology selection under rigid competition, especially as foreign open source companies are found to be more focused on hobbyist developers and are able to maintain larger independent communities. Implications of the paper include the need to coordinate global development efforts and adjust science & technology policies in order to stimulate both the development and the diffusion of open source among Chinese companies and individual hobbyists.

  • To cope with the rapid changes in the corporate environment, the creation of innovative output through various forms of collaboration have been discussed. For open collaborations, contributors who distribute to various countries and cultures are able to share knowledge via the internet without physical rewards or responsibilities. In this study, we focused on the open source software project, which is a representative open collaboration. We investigated the factors that affect the knowledge contribution of developers of various countries within the open collaboration platform. Specifically, we investigated the open collaborative nature of multi-culture developers by dividing cultures according to collectivism and individualism. We collected data on 26,604 developers using a python based web crawler for GitHub which is an open source software development platform, and conducted cross-cultural study. This paper contributes to the field of knowledge management by suggesting various impacts of antecedents such as hireability, and information exposure on knowledge sharing according to culture.

  • 상업용 소프트웨어에 견줄만한 수준의 오픈소스 소프트웨어들이 등장함으로 인하여, 오픈소스 (정보시스템 개발) 프로젝트에 대한 학계의 관심이 고조되고 있는 가운데, 오픈소스 프로젝트의 관리경영측면에 관한 연구들은 막상 찾아보기 쉽지 않은 상황이다. 이러한 현실에서 본 논문은 기존의 전통적인 정보시스템 개발관리에 적용되는 경영관리 이론들이 오픈소스 프로젝트에도 그대로 적용될 수 있는 지를 살펴보고자 하는 학문적 관심에서 출발하여 사례연구 방법을 적용하여 행위통제의 관점에서 오픈소스 프로젝트들이 어떻게 관리되고 있는가 라는 문제를 연구하였다. 자료분석과 해석을 통해, 본 연구는 구체적인 사례들에 있어서 개별적인 차이들은 존재하지만, 전반적으로 오픈소스 프로젝트 관리에 있어 다양한 형태들의 행위통제가 이루어지고 있다는 사실을 확인하였다. 이러한 발견은 오픈 소스 프로젝트는 그 특성상 행위통제가 적용되기 어렵다고 보는 기존 일부 연구자들의 주장과 배치되는 내용이다. 오픈소스 프로젝트 관리에 관한 보다 더 포괄적인 학문적 이해를 위해서는 향후 결과통제와 자기통제까지 포함하는 보다 더 확대된 연구가 필요할 것으로 보인다.

개방형협업 참여자의 지식창출·지식공유 구조와 혁신 성과: 오픈소스 소프트웨어 개발 커뮤니티를 중심으로 (The Impact on Structures of Knowledge Creation and Sharing on Performance of Open Collaboration: Focus on Open Source Software Development Communities)

  • This research focus on the effect of developers' participation structure in knowledge creation and knowledge sharing activities in open source software development projects. Based on preferential selection theory, hypotheses of relationship between a developers' concentration of knowledge creation/sharing activities and collaboration performance was derived. To verify the hypotheses, we use the Gini coefficient in the commit contribution of the developers (knowledge creation) and the centralization index in the repository issue network (knowledge sharing network). Using social network analysis, this paper calculates centralization index from developers in the issue boards in each repository based on data from 837 repositories in GitHub, a leading open source software development platform. As a result, instead of all developers creating and sharing knowledge equally, only a few of developers creating and sharing knowledge intensively further improve the performance of the open collaboration. In other words, a few developers predominantly providing commit and actively responding to issues raised from other developers enhance the project performance. The results of this study are expected to be used by developers who manage open source software project as a governance strategy, which could improve the performance of open collaboration.

SCORM 지원 공개 소프트웨어 학습 관리 시스템 (Open Software Learning Management System support SCORM)

  • 이 논문에서는 국제 학습 콘텐츠 표준인 SCORM을 지원하는 공개 소프트웨어 기반의 학습관리 시스템을 구축하기 위해, 기존 학습 관리 시스템을 비교 분석하여 무들(Moodle)을 선정하였고 학사관리시스템, 스트리밍서비스 등의 기존 시스템들과 연동 운용함으로써, 공개 소프트웨어 기반 학습관리 시스템의 현실적 가능성을 보였다. 공개 학습 관리 시스템인 무들은 모듈화 구조를 수용해 사용의 편의성과 확장성을 충분히 제공하고 있으며, SCORM지원을 원활하게 하고 있다. 또한, 사회적 구성주의 학습 이론을 기반으로 설계, 구현되어 있다는 중요한 장점을 갖고 있다. 이 연구는 학습 관리 시스템을 포함한 공개S/W 기반 e-Learning시스템 구축이 안정적으로 가능하다는 것을 보였다.

  • OpenStack과 같이 오픈 소스 기반의 클라우드 컴퓨팅 관리 플랫폼 (Cloud Management Platform) 의 빠른 구현으로 인하여, 오픈 소스를 이용한 개인 및 기관의 클라우드 구축 시도가 지속적으로 증가되는 추세이다. 이러한 클라우드 운영자들에게, 구축한 클라우드 컴퓨팅 시스템의 동작 검증은 필수적이다. 본 논문은 클라우드 시스템 구축 검증하기 위한 오픈 소스 기반의 클라우드 테스트 도구를 디자인하며 구현한다. 특히, 제안된 테스트 도구는 오픈 소스 소프트웨어 프로젝트인 Tempest를 활용하며, Tempest의 테스트 케이스를 통해서 OpenStack기반의 클라우드를 검증한다. 제안된 소프트웨어는 국내에서 처음으로 개발되는 클라우드 시스템 구축 테스트 도구의 프로토타입이며, 앞으로 클라우드 기술 개발 및 사용자 확대에 기여할 것으로 예상된다.

오픈소스를 활용한 지능형 수요반응 플랫폼 개발 (Development of Automated Demand Response Platform Using Open Source Code)

  • With the shift of the energy paradigm from supply side management to demand side management, demand resource management and demand response plays an important role in the energy industry. As a consequency, a lot of researches have been done to provide a suitable demand response system. However, most of the demand response systems are based on the propriety products that cannot be modified. In this paper, we are proposing an automated demand response system using an EnerNOC provided open source code. We implemented the demand response server (VTN) and demand response client (VEN), and validated the OpenADR2.0 compliances using the open source code. We also used an Arduino microcontoller to demonstrate the communication schemes to control various devices.
