Open Hardware Platforms for Internet of Things : Evaluation & Analysis

  • In this paper, we present open hardware platforms for Internet of Things (IoTs) emphasizing their strengths and weaknesses. We introduce six representative platforms, Raspberry PI, Arduino, Garileo, Edison, Beagle board and Artik. We define important performance issues for open hardware platforms for IoTs and analyze recent platforms according to the performance issues. We present recent research project using open hardware platforms introduced in this paper. We believe that this paper provide wise view and necessary information for open hardware platforms for Internet of Things (IoT).

  • The authors provide characteristics of the open educational platforms, classification and quantitative analysis regarding the availability of IT courses, teaching language, thematic directions on the following platforms: Coursera, EdX, Udemy, MIT Open Course Ware, OpenLearn, Intuit, Prometheus, UoPeople, Open Learning Initiative, Open University of Maidan (OUM). The quantitative analysis results are structured and visualized by tables and diagrams. The authors propose to use open educational resources (teaching, learning or research materials that are in the public domain or released with an intellectual property license that allows free use, adaptation, and distribution) for organization of independent work; for organization of distance or correspondence training; for professional development of teachers; for possibility and expediency of author's methods dissemination in the development of their own courses and promoting them on open platforms. Post-project activities are considered in comparing the courses content of one thematic direction, as well as studying the experience of their attending on different platforms.

  • 본 논문에서는 모바일 플랫폼을 위한 범용적인 그래픽스 미들웨어로써, 모바일 장면그래프 라이브러리인 '모바일 OpenSceneGraph (모바일 OSG)'를 제안하고 그 개발 사례를 소개한다. 제안하는 모바일 그래픽스 미들웨어는 데스크탑 환경에서 그래픽스 미들웨어로 널리 쓰이고 있는 OpenSceneGraph를 모바일 환경에 적합하도록 재설계하였으며, 이를 통해 범용성, 확장성, 모바일 플랫폼 UI 지원, 호환성 등의 특성을 확보하였다. 복잡한 가상환경의 실시간 렌더링, 터치 UI 기반의 카메라 조작, 노드 전환을 통한 애니메이션 등과 같은 예시 응용프로그램을 통해 제안하는 모바일 장면 그래프 라이브러리의 효용성을 보이도록 한다.

Utilization of Open Access Repositories for Visibility of Academic Publications by Lecturers in South-East, Nigeria

  • The study investigates the utilization of open access repositories for visibility of academic publications by lecturers in South-East, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to investigate the types of academic publications available, platforms used in self-archiving, level of satisfaction derived by lecturers with the contribution of open access repositories, challenges and strategies. It adopted descriptive survey design. Proportionate stratified sampling technique was used to draw a sample size of 418 from the total population of 4,187 lecturers. Questionnaire and observation check list were used for data collection. Frequency count, percentage, and mean score were used to analyze the data. The study revealed that there are enough academic publications available such as books, journals, projects, and thesis with the exception of handouts. It also revealed that Google Scholar, Research Gate and Open Access Journal were the main platforms lecturers use in self-archiving; while other platforms like Institutional Repositories, among others were minimally employed. Lecturers are less satisfied with the contribution of open access repositories. All the suggested challenges such as inadequate power supply, poor network, lack of awareness and inadequate research grants were all accepted. Similarly, all the suggested strategies for improving them were accepted. Recommendations were made based on the findings such as more awareness creation on importance of open access repositories; re-training of lecturers and provision of adequate ICT infrastructures that will improve the utilization of open access repositories by lecturers which could enhance the global visibility of academic publications from the Nigerian Universities.

  • Recent advances in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies have led to a significant increase in metaverse platforms. Metaverses are setting a new direction for the digital world. This paper examines the phenomenon of virtual worlds that are becoming an issue these days, focusing on [Ready Player One]. One of the common features of the metaverse platform in [Ready Player One] and the platforms currently in use is the concept of open world. This is a feature that goes beyond simply moving around in a virtual world and allows users to freely reset, participate in, and control the environment. This innovative concept is a hallmark of metaverse platforms, and it is becoming increasingly important and influential. Through this study, we focused on the [open world system] of the platform in the movie and the modern metaverse platform, and suggested and studied how the scalability of the metaverse will present a turning point in the future.

  • The article discusses the results of a quantitative analysis of open educational resources in the field of information technology. Study is based on a study of the content of ten platforms that provide access to open resources (OPs). To achieve this goal, we used the following methods: theoretical analysis and generalization of Internet sources to determine the popularity of educational platforms and resources on them; quantitative data analysis to determine the relative proportion of IT courses in various parameters: the relative weight of courses in the IT field in general and on each platform in particular, the language of instruction, the quantitative content by thematic areas. The following platforms providing access to open educational resources were subjected to quantitative analysis: Coursera, Edx, Udemy, MIT OpenCourseWare, OpenLearn, Intuit, Prometheus, UoPeople, Open Learning Initiative, Maidan Open University.

  • 2019년 말부터 지속된 언택트 시대의 장기화는 문화콘텐츠를 디지털 형태로 제공하는 유통 플랫폼들의 확산을 더욱 가속화시켰다. 디지털 콘텐츠 유통 플랫폼들은 문화콘텐츠 기획, 생산, 유통의 중심축으로서 시장에서 치열하게 경쟁하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 디지털 콘텐츠 유통 플랫폼들의 경쟁 요소로서 개방형 혁신 이론을 적용하여 콘텐츠의 다중언어화 관점에서 경쟁력을 확보할 수 있는지 가늠한다.

HTML5/WebGL 기반 3D 공간정보 오픈플랫폼 소프트웨어 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of 3D Geospatial Open Platform Based on HTML5/WebGL Technology)

  • 최근 공간정보 오픈플랫폼의 활용도가 지속적으로 증가하고 있으며, 지형, 건물, 쇼핑몰 등과 같이 3차원 공간정보에 대한 관심이 크게 증가하고 있다. 특히, 단순화된 3차원 공간정보가 아니라 실세계와 유사한 고정밀 공간정보에 대한 관심이 크게 증가하고 있다. 이러한 3차원 공간정보에 대한 수요를 충족시키기 위하여 다양한 3차원 공간정보 오픈플랫폼들이 개발되어 서비스를 제공하여 왔다. 그러나, 대부분의 3차원 공간정보 오픈플랫폼들은 빠른 렌더링 성능을 제공하기 위하여 설치 과정의 어려움, 크로스 웹 브라우저/운영체제 지원 불가, 보안 약화 등의 많은 문제점에도 불구하고, 플러그인 모듈을 부득이하게 이용하고 있다. 더구나, 최근 크롬, 파이어폭스 등의 웹 브라우저에서 플러그인 모듈의 동작을 지원하였던 NPAPI 서비스에 대한 중단을 선언함으로써, 기존 플러그인 기반 3차원 공간정보 오픈플랫폼의 동작에 큰 문제가 발생하게 되었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 플러그인을 사용하지 않고 3차원 공간정보를 빠른 성능으로 서비스할 수 있는 방법으로 HTML5/WebGL의 차세대 웹 표준 기술을 활용한 새로운 3차원 공간정보 오픈플랫폼의 설계 및 구현 방법을 제시하고 있다. 이러한 HTML5/WebGL 기반의 차세대 공간정보 오픈플랫폼은 Windows, Linux, Mac 등의 크로스 운영체제와 IE, Chrome, Firefox, Safari 등의 크로스 브라우저, 그리고 모바일 플랫폼에서 동작이 가능하다.

  • 최근의 고성능 컴퓨팅 플랫폼들은 공유 메모리 다중 프로세서(SMP: Shared Memory Multiprocessor) 시스템, 대규모 병렬 프로세서 (Massively Parallel Processor) 시스템, 여러 개의 컴퓨팅 노드들을 연결한 클러스터(Cluster) 시스템 등으로 분류된다. 이러한 고성능 컴퓨팅 시스템들은 높은 수준의 컴퓨팅 성능을 요구하는 과학 기술용 응용 프로그램들을 위하여 사용된다. 이러한 응용 프로그램들의 실행시 최적의 성능을 얻기 위해서는 적절한 컴퓨팅 플랫폼과 프로그래밍 방식의 선택이 중요하다. 본 연구 논문에서는 여러 방식의 병렬 프로그래밍 모델을 사용하여 개발된 SPEC HPC2002 벤치마크 suite을 위한 최적의 컴퓨팅 플랫폼과 프로그래밍 모델을 그들의 성능 분석 및 평가 작업을 통하여 찾아간다.

A Study on Energy Platform Using Data in the US: Based on Opening Platform Model

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze various energy platforms using data in the US and to suggest directions and implications. Some of the leading energy platforms are selected and analyzed based on the opening platform model. We focus on the case analysis of the US utility companies. In case of the horizontal open platform, Green Button sponsor's 'Connect My Data (CMD)' driven by the government invites the utility companies to jointly develop the sponsor's data solution. In case of the vertical open platform, the certification program 'Share My Data (SMD)' allows backward compatibility, because the technical improvement is minimal. The utility companies benchmark Amazon's three-sided market mediation and prefer platform and category exclusivity. For the former, they have data analytics companies like Enervee, Opower and for the latter, they have electronics manufactures and energy service providers (ESPs) like Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). Based on this US case study, we suggest the energy platforms to open their platform for renewable energy supply, energy conservation, high-efficiency products, and residential DER dissemination. To successfully implement the government's energy transition policy, the US platforms should be benchmarked as a business model. Especially, it is needed for them to coordinate a platform ecosystem. To ensure trust in the products and services offered on the marketplace platform, platform's certification program is helpful.
