  • The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting the change of tibial posterior slope and introduce a mathematical model which calculate, through 3-dimensional analysis of the proximal tibia, how the angle of the opening wedge along the anteromedial tibial cortex influences the tibial posterior slope and valgus correction when performing a medial open wedge osteotomy. This mathematical model with navigation system can be guidelines which provide surgeons on preoperative and intraoperative measurements to maintain or correct the tibial slope and to obtain the desired valgus correction of the lower limb during an opening wedge osteotomy.

  • More people travel oversea as the economic size of Korea is getting larger and more new jobs are requested to be created by the society. To respond to these trend and request, Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) is about to expand its processing capability with a new terminal; 54 million passengers to 72 million. IIAC is also introducing new strategies such as open innovation (OI) and creating shared value (CSV). With these changes, IIAC faces new challenges of restructuring its business and organization with new ideas. Most organizations including IIAC are becoming more dependent on external resources to keep their competitive advantages under the turbulence of global business environmental changes. Therefore, they focus on the OI paradigm which is reported as a convincing strategy to improve competitiveness in terms of budget and time-to-market. OI is to quickly react to the rapidly changing business environment and is adopted to support startup incubation. In the previous research with IIAC, three major tasks were defined; utilizing the IIAC brand power for external vendors, building a technology road-map, and introducing a collaboration support system. This paper deals with the collaboration system as proposed in the previous research. We focused on the collaboration process for startup incubation. Cases were studied; the K-startup model by the government, a university model to explore youth startups, and a R&D institute model to study professional startups. Based on the case studies, we defined an IIAC model and proposed issues to take care of. The model is distinguished from the other studied models since IIAC is a prospective customer of new technology.

  • Today, most of all the query processors in the world generally use the 'Pipelining' method to acquire fast response time (first record latency) and less memory usage. Each of the operator nodes in the Query Execution Plan (QEP) provides Open(), Next(), and Close() functions for their interface to facilitate the iterator mechanism. However, the embedded database systems for the mobile devices, based on the FLASH memory, usually require a function like Previous(), which returns the previous records from current position. It is because that, in the embedded environment, the mobile devices cannot fully provide it main memory to store all the query results. So, whenever needed the previously read records the user (program) should re-fetch the previous records using the Previous() function: the BACKWARD data fetch. In this paper, I introduce the 'Direction Switching Problem' caused by the Previous() function and suggest 'Block-wise Skipping' method to fully utilize the benefits of the block-based data transfer mechanism, which is widely accepted by most of the today's relational database management systems.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest field-oriented policy of regional innovation support system. To accomplish this purpose, we examined the status quo of technical support ,performance satisfaction of consumers and practical issues. The key factors influencing core technical innovation of small and medium firms are development fund, R&D employees, experimental instrument, technical information, protection of intellectual property, subcontracting and so on. To make sure of practical effect, therefore, it would rather necessary to implement policy support linking government and supporting means on the ground of needs of small and medium firms than specific method such as funding.

  • In heavy nuclear power plant, high energy through main steam line is provided to turbine that generate the electric power. Since plant had generated power, high noise has been occurred. Noise make equipments and work environment worse. For finding out the location and the cause of making noise, noise was measured along main steam line at open/close test of Main Steam Isolation Valve (MSIV hereafter). As the result, it was identified that the vortex shedding in the cavity of MSIV is main noise source. The profile change of MSIV seat ring was proposed as the method of noise reduction. After filletting MSIV seat ring, the noise level reduced $10{\sim}20dB$ compared before the change of profile.

  • Recently, the various web service and applications are provided to the user. As to these service, because of providing the service to the authenticated user, the user undergoes the inconvenience of performing the authentication with the service especially every time. The OAuth(Open Authorization) protocol which acquires the access privilege in which 3rd Party application is limited on the web service in order to resolve this inconvenience appeared. This OAuth protocol provides the service which is convenient and flexible to the user but has the security vulnerability about the authorization acquisition. Therefore, we propose the method that analyze the security vulnerability which it can be generated in the OAuth 2.0 protocol and secure user authority authentication method.

  • In this paper, problems with the Korean system regulating the use of university royalties are identified and investigated in order to suggest measures to improve the system in a way that provides a better R&D environment at universities. The Delphi technique was used to gather data from royalty specialists at universities and government ministries. The first Delphi survey conducted used open questions to identify problems in the use of university royalties. Then, closed questions were used for the second Delphi survey. The number of responses and the frequency of answers were analyzed after the first survey, and validity, stability, and reliability analyses were conducted for the second survey. The measures suggested to improve the system regulating the use of university royalties are as follows: First, bonuses for researchers, which are currently 50% or more of collected royalties, need to be decreased, as they are rather high compared to similar bonuses in developed countries, which are around 30% of collected royalties. The guideline for limiting the bonuses, which is explained as XX% or less of collected royalties, is suggested to prevent the excessive use of royalties. Second, rewards for those who contribute to technology transfer and commercialization should be increased. It is also important to build a consensus around the need to reward those who contribute to technology transfer and commercialization. Third, the scale of re-investment into R&D needs to increase. Regulations on royalties should be meaningfully applied to create a positive feedback structure for R&D, which can be described as the process of research, R&D outcomes, technology transfer, collecting royalties, rewarding researchers, and re-investing in R&D. To build a university's R&D capability, re-investment into R&D needs to be regularized as XX% or more of royalties. Fourth, regulations on the royalties of ministries and universities need to be unified. Each category for using royalties needs to be regularized, with detailed matters such as the guideline, process and method for using royalties specified. Also, universities need to make their own specific regulations. Fifth, specific priorities on the use of royalties need to be suggested. Regulation is necessary for the categories that do not have guideline and priorities for the use of royalties. It is hoped that the findings of this research will contribute to reinforcing the R&D capability of universities.

  • Since 2014, the Korean government has begun distributing LPG pipelines and LPG tankers to mountainous or island areas where it is difficult to open urban gas supply chains. When installing LPG supply facilities at village level and county level, it supplied consumers with 10 times higher quasi-low pressure (25 kPa to 100 kPa) than conventional gas supply pressure, increasing the risk of gas accident. Due to the pressure that is 10 times higher than the conventional gas supply pressure, large amounts of gas are released at a faster rate when leaked. In order to secure safety of quasi-low-pressure gas pipes, excess flow valves for quasi-low-pressure gas pipes are not developed and are not supplied in Korea. Therefore, Korea Gas Safety Corporation is investigating the performance standards and products of the excess flow valves in order to localize the excess flow valves.

  • Objective : High-dose radiation is well known to induce and modulate the immune system. This study was performed to evaluate the correlation between clinical outcomes and changes in natural killer cell activity (NKA) after Gamma Knife Radiosurgery (GKS) in patients with brain cancer. Methods : We performed an open-label, prospective, cross-sectional study of 38 patients who were treated with GKS for brain tumors, including metastatic and benign brain tumors. All of the patients underwent GKS, and blood samples were collected before and after GKS. NKA was measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit, to measure interferon-gamma (IFNγ) secreted by ex vivo-stimulated NK cells from whole blood. We explored the correlations between NK cell-produced IFNγ (NKA-IFNγ) levels and clinical parameters of patients who were treated with GKS for brain tumors. Results : NKA-IFNγ levels were decreased in metastatic brain tumor patients compared to those with benign brain tumors (p<0.0001). All the patients who used steroid treatment to reduce brain swelling after GKS had an NKA-IFNγ level of zero except one patient. High NKA-IFNγ levels were not associated with a rapid decrease in brain metastasis and did not increase after GKS. Conclusion : The activity of NK cells in metastatic brain tumors decreased more than that in benign brain tumors after GKS.

  • Soil respiration ($R_S$) is a critical component of the annual carbon balance of forests, but few studies thus far have attempted to evaluate empirical regression models in $R_S$. The principal objectives of this study were to evaluate the relationship between $R_S$ rates and soil temperature (ST) and soil water content (SWC) in soil from a cool-temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest, and to evaluate empirical regression models for the prediction of $R_S$ using ST and SWC. We have been measuring $R_S$, using an open-flow gas-exchange system with an infrared gas analyzer during the snowfree season from 1999 to 2001 at the Takayama Forest, Japan. To evaluate the empirical regression models used for the prediction of $R_S$, we compared a simple exponential regression (flux = $ae^{bt}$Eq. [1]) and two polynomial multiple-regression models (flux = $ae^{bt}{\times}({\theta}{\nu}-c){\times}(d-{\theta}{\nu})^f:$ Eq. [2] and flux = $ae^{bt}{\times}(1-(1-({\theta}{\nu}/c))^2)$: Eq. [3]) that included two variables (ST: t and SWC: ${\theta}{\nu}$) and that utilized hourly data for $R_S$. In general, daily mean $R_S$ rates were positively well-correlated with ST, but no significant correlations were observed with any significant frequency between the ST and $R_S$ rates on periods of a day based on the hourly $R_S$ data. Eq. (2) has many more site-specific parameters than Eq. (3) and resulted in some significant underestimation. The empirical regression, Eq. (3) was best explained by temporal variations, as it provided a more unbiased fit to the data compared to Eq. (2). The Eq. (3) (ST $\times$ SWC function) also increased the predictive ability as compared to Eq. (1) (only ST exponential function), increasing the $R^2$ from 0.71 to 0.78.
