Formation, Properties and Antimicrobial Activities of Cotton Xanthate-Cu(II)-Homosulfamine Complex

  • To develop a cotton derivatives with prolonged antimicrobial activities, homosulfamine (Hs) was coupled to cotton xanthate (CX) via chelate bond in the presence of Cu(II) ion by one- and two-bath processes. In one-bath process, CX was treated with Cu(II)-Hs solution. In two-bath process, CX was treated with Cu(II) ion solution to produce CX-Cu(II) complex, which was isolated and treated in turn with Hs solution. Effects of concentration, Cu(II)/Hs ratio, and pH on the binding of Hs were investigated at $10{\circ}C$ . In one-bath process, binding of hs took place readily with optimum pH around 5-6. the amount of binding increased to give a maximum within 5 min and decreased slowly to establish an equilibrium withhin an hour. In two-bath process, binding of Hs was much lower than that of one-bath process. Release of Hs from CX-Cu(II)-Hs was investigated by batch and flow method. antimicrobial activiteis of CX-Cu(II)-Hs was investigated by batch and flow method. Antimicrobial activities of CX-Cu(II)-Hs were tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli and it showed prolonged activity compared to that of free Hs.

족욕이 간호대학생의 임상실습 피로 경감에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Foot-bath on Fatigue in Nursing Students on Clinical Practice)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of foot-bath on fatigue of nursing students in clinical practice. method: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were randomly assigned to one of four groups and data collection was conducted from June to August 2001. For the experimental group the foot-bath was performed once a day for 3 days. The instrument was subjective fatigue scale and 150mm graphic rating scale. For four groups pretest was done on first day and posttest was done on third day. The data was analyzed by the t-test and paired t-test. results: The subjective fatigue scale score was not significantly after the foot-bath in day duty but significantly lower after the foot-bath in evening duty. The graphic rating scale score was significantly lower after the foot-bath. The subjective fatigue scale score and graphic rating scale score on 1st, 3rd foot-bath day were significantly lower in experimental group. conclusion: On the basis of the above findings, this study suggests that foot-bath can be an effective fatigue relieving method.

밀링형 산성염료에 의한 양모/나일론 혼방직물의 일욕염색에 관한 연구 (A Study on the One Bath Dyeing of Wool/Nylon Blended Fabrics with Milling Type Acid Dyes.)

  • The dyeing property of milling type acid dyes with various chemical constitution were studied in one bath dyeing of Wool/Nylon blended fabrics and the proper dyeing condition to get solid color by using reserving agent was also examined. The result of the experiments can be summarized as follows; 1) Although the effect of pH on dyeing of wool with a highly hydrophiilic dye is great in the dyeing of wool and nylon, the proper pH of dyeing bath is weakly acidic 5, in which levelling dye can be obtained by increasing the solubility product. 2) Under a constant pH, the dye with fewer numbers of sulfonic acid groups increases the dyeing amount of nylon as the concentration of the dye is increased. Thus the appropriate dye for light color is the one with many numbers of sulfonic acid groups and the proper dye for medium and deep color is of fewer sulfonic acid groups for one-bath dyeing. 3) When the dye concentration is greater than the critical depth, the K/S value of wool and nylon was almost not effected or slightly increased.

도금욕 부유드로스의 감소 (Reduction of floating Dross in the Zinc Bath)

  • Dross formation in the zinc bath is inevitable under any condition as long as coating process on steel strip continues. Thus, bath aluminum and temperature are precisely managed to suppress the increase of dross. Also, excessive dross for normal coating process is generally eliminated physically by bubbling and skimming. Total amount of dross in the bath can be sometimes high enough to cause coating defect. On the other hand, local concentration of dross can make coating defect even with satisfactory level of total amount of dross. Reduction of dross in the bath was attempted by using ceramic foam filter made of mainly alumina. Dross in molten zinc was almost reduced to the levels of solubility of iron and aluminum in molten zinc at $450~460^{\circ}C$. Their solubility levels were confirmed by thermodynamic calculations or DEAL program. Two kinds of filters were tested for dross reduction. One was #20 ppi, porous per inch, and the other #30 ppi filter. Both were effective in reducing the bath dross to the solubility levels at the static state. Bath iron was reduced by 24 wt% and 19 wt% with #20 filter, and by 35 wt% and 29 wt% with #30 filter for GI and GA pot, respectively. Also, ceramic foam filter did not make any harm to the zinc bath composition after filtering test.

  • Old people and patients with cardiovascular disease could die of a heart attack in the bath with heated water for a long time. Various researches have been studied to prevent these accidents from happening such as measuring the ECG signal when taking bath. However, these devices are hard to use and the higher price is not easily accepted by the public. In this paper, a low-cost and use-friendly, real time high precision water temperature monitoring device to prevent heart attack in the bath was developed. The device with waterproof design that lets the device can float on the surface of the water, and an accurate way to make water temperature measurement method was proposed by this paper that is immerging the sensor into water with 4cm depth to measure the temperature of underwater. The manufactured device was conducted to two experiments; one was to verify the basic functions of the device, and another one was for compare the proposed device with commercial products for monitoring the water temperature in the bathtub. As the experimental results shown, the proposed device has stable performance for the water temperature measurement and communicating with laptop in wireless.

이반응형 브리지 화합물을 이용한 폴리에스테르/면 복합소재의 단일분산염료염색 (I) (The Disperse Dyeing of Polyester/Cotton Blend Using a Hetero-bifunctional Bridge Compound (I))

  • In order to dye polyester/cotton blend fabric by one-bath dyeing process with single disperse dye, a novel hetero-bifunctional bridge compound(DBDCBS) was synthesized and utilized. The DBDCBS was designed to contain two different reactive groups such as ${\alpha},{\beta}$-dibromopropionylamido and dichloro-s-triazinyl groups. The ${\alpha},{\beta}$-dibromopropionylamido group shows considerable reactivity towards amines or amino groups at acidic condition and high temperature. In contrast, the dichloro-s-triazinyl group has reactivity towards hydroxyl groups at alkaline condition and room temperature. In order to examine whether as a bridge the compound could combine dyes containing amino groups with cellulosic substrates, disperse dyes containing amino group were tried to dye the cotton fibers pretreated with the DBDCBS compound. By the results, polyester/cotton blends were dyed by one-bath dyeing process with single disperse dye,1,4-diaminoanthraquinone.

  • The cleaning process to remove small particles, ions, and other polluted sources is one of the major parts in the recent semiconductor industry because it can cause fatal errors on the quality of the final products. According to the other reports, the major factors of bath's fluid motion are the cleaning method, nozzle, the geometry (of bath, guide and wafer), and the position (of guide and wafer). So to enhance cleaning efficiency in the bath, these factors must be controlled. The purpose of this study is to analyze and visualize fluid motion in the cleaning bath as basic data for designing the nozzle system and finding the process control parameters. For that, we used the general CFD code FLUENT.

  • Organic compounds, such as aldehydes, amines, amides, sulfur compounds of polymers, have been added to cyanide Zinc electroplating bath to achieve in improvement of the brightness and of the current efficiency. It was found that the addition of only one compound o these organic compounds in the bath were unsuitable to be used for brightener, but mixure of aldehyde and reaction products obtained from epoxides and amines and/or amides were suitable for brightener in cyanide zinc electroprating baths.

시판세제의 세정성에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Detergency of Commercial Detergents.)

  • Washing efficiency of detergents were investigated by measuring of surface reflectance after cotton fabrics soiled in bath which consist of carbon black, palmitic acid, liquid paraffin and carbon tetrachloride were treated in Laundry-tester. Detergents used were soaps and synthetic detergents being on the marketing. Results of this study indicate that soaps were superior to synthetic detergents. Washing continued three times repeatedly in the same bath and washing in the bath which is kept for 24 hours after one washing, both of the washing efficiencies are found no appreciable change.

한약재 약욕요법이 소아 발열기간에 미치는 영향 : 체계적 문헌고찰 및 메타분석 (Effect of Herbal Bath for Duration of Pediatric Fever : a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis)

  • Objective The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether herbal bath shortens the duration of pediatric fever. Methods Databases, such as Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane library, OASIS, KISS, KMBASE, CNKI, Wanfang Med Online were used to search randomized controlled trials. Those trials that included children younger than 18-year-old were evaluated for the clinical efficacy of herbal bath in fever by analyzing 'body temperature (BT) drop start time' and 'time to return to normal BT'. Results 12 studies or 1306 participants were analyzed in the study. When applying herbal bath in combination with the controlled treatment, 'BT drop start time' was decreased by 0.11 hours, and 'time to return to normal BT' was decreased by 10.94 hours compared to the controlled group. When comparing herbal bath with tepid bath, 'time to return to normal BT' was reduced by 8.19 hours in herbal bath group. In regards to safety, 3 studies out of 12 studies mentioned about its adverse events: 2 studies did not have any adverse events, and a minor needle-shaped bleeding had occurred in one of the studies. Conclusion Use of herbal bath as a treatment of fever in children was associated with shortened duration of fever. However, cautious interpretation is necessary due to its limited safety data.
