In order to achieve effective corrosion monitoring of buried metal pipelines, a Novel nondestructive Testing (NDT) methodology using ultra-long (250 mm) Polymer Optical Fiber (POF) sensors coated with the Fe-C alloy film is proposed in this study. The theoretical principle is investigated to clarify the monitoring mechanism of this method, and the detailed fabrication process of this novel POF sensor is presented. To validate the feasibility of this novel POF sensor, exploratory research of the proposed method was performed using simulated corrosion tests. For simplicity, the geometric shape of the buried pipeline was simulated as a round hot-rolled plain steel bar. A thin nickel layer was applied as the inner plated layer, and the Fe-C alloy film was coated using an electroless plating technique to precisely control the thickness of the alloy film. In the end, systematic sensitivity analysis on corrosion severity was further performed with experimental studies on three sensors fabricated with different metal layer thicknesses of 25 ㎛, 30 ㎛ and 35 ㎛. The experimental observation demonstrated that the sensor coated with 25 ㎛ Fe-C alloy film presented the highest effectiveness with the corrosion sensitivity of 0.3364 mV/g at Δm = 9.32 × 10-4 g in Stage I and 0.0121 mV/g in Stage III. The research findings indicate that the detection accuracy of the novel POF sensor proposed in this study is satisfying. Moreover, the simple fabrication of the high-sensitivity sensor makes it cost-effective and suitable for the on-site corrosion monitoring of buried metal pipelines.

Purpose: This study intended to analyze the validity of clinical effectiveness data of clinical trials testing systemic titrated extract of Zea Mays L. unsaponifiable fraction chemotherapeutic agent. Material and Methods: Among 5 clinical trials claimed as proof of clinical effectiveness on the Web site of the manufacturer of this chemotherapeutic agent, a review of 4 clinical trials, written in either Korean or English, was conducted. Data were extracted from studies for the following variables: year of publication, age, sample size, follow-up period, combination with contemporary periodontal treatments, randomization, randomization check, blinded measurement, and statistical test type. Results: The study subjects' age intervals were too diverse to decide a common target population to generalize the findings. No study stated clearly the rationale for the sample size determination. Follow-up period to observe the start of clinical effectiveness was inconsistent and decided without any rationale of pathophysiological latent period. Randomization to make the comparisons on the same start line was performed but failed in a study. Randomization effect was not checked in 4 studies. Performance of blinded measurement of clinical outcomes to prevent bias was unclear in 2 studies. Type of statistical test was inappropriate in 3 studies. Conclusions: Based on the analysis of the validity of data on clinical and demographic variables, the four available clinical trials have not demonstrated compelling evidence of therapeutic effectiveness of systemic titrated extract of Zea Mays L. unsaponifiable fraction chemotherapeutic agent to improve prognosis of periodontal disease either with the contemporary periodontal treatment or without it.

$CO_2$ welding is used widely in the field. On the other hand, welding defects occur when welders cannot adjust the current and voltage needed for welding and have to stop working to adjust the current and voltage, causing sudden cooling down of the welding structure inside a vehicle or tank where the control panel is invisible or when work site is far. This study used three types of existing $CO_2$ welders. This also applied SS400 rolled steel for welding structural purposes for remote control torch welding, perform a welding test through v-groove butt welding with a remote control torch and existing $CO_2$ welding torch, conducted visual inspection on the appearance of a welded top bead. In addition, the appearance quality of the welding part was monitored mainly through penetrant testing and a bending test to evaluate the welding defect reduction and the effect on the performance and compatibility by replacing the existing welder.

KS F 2782 (for shotcrete accelerators) standard cross-section of tunnel construction or repair is a reinforcement used in the field of shotcrete accelerators as a criterion in assessing shotcrete performance. Thus, KS F 2782 by standard accelerator will determine the nature of the product of concrete accelerators that will be used to record variations in the product roles, through determination of the quality of the experimental method to identify only the quality of the many variables that exist. This evaluation standard has so far distinguished accelerator products in indoor experiments that do not meet quality standards but were mostly for an on-site accelerator mixed with the shotcrete after being quite satisfied with the level of quality in a certain number of products. This observation is derived from the results of an indoor experiment considered to verify whether the site is suitable for indoor experiments, and whether its actual location in the city is relevant to the accelerator quality, to find a way to test if it fits. This study centers on the material conditions of the shotcrete accelerator and a variety of experimental results, and used the Gilmore needle to compare the compressive strength and KS F 2782 specification of the accelerator as a means to ensure product quality conformity analysis and for further research experiments. In conclusion, a portion of KS F 2782 standard that fixes the problems that can be resolved from the ground up as a whole is not a review for the domestic reality. As an indoor experiment to ensure uniformity in the field when applied in a sufficient correlation, complement must be in place.
The commercial availability of processed heterogenous bone has provided the surgeons with almost unlimited supply, avoidance of additional operation and prevention of the postoperative complications. In addition to these merits, unnecessary bone bank, easy availibility and storage have been achieved. The purpose of this study was to compare and examine the healing capacity of Kiel bone, Pyrost and Osteovit which used as the processed heterografts for the reconstruction of bony defect. Twenty rabbits weighing about 1.7-2.0 Kg were selected and divided into two groups. In experimental group A, the left mandibular defect was allowed to fill with blood, and the right defect was filled with Kiel bone. In experimental group B, the left defect was grafted with Pyrost, and the right with Osteovit. The experimental animals were sacrified after 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks and the grafted site was studied histologically. To evaluate the strength of healed bone, 2 rabbits from each experimental group and a nonoperated control were sacrified at the 6th week after implantation and used for biometric testing on universal testing machine. The results obtained were as follows : 1. It was considered that these heterogenous bone grafts has feeble or absent immunogenicity since all of them appeared to evoke little inflammatory or forign body reaction. 2. In all experimental groups, new bone formation began from the adjacent region of host bone and extended progressively into the defect sites. New bone was partly formed within the intertrabecular space of the implant and gradually united with the bone that formed at the margin of the host bone. 3. With Pyrost bone formation was rapid and prominent comparing with other graft materials. 4. Osteovit was begun to be absorbed from 2 weeks, and Kiel bone from 4 weeks, however Pyrost was remained to be intact until the end of 8 weeks. 5. As the results of tensile test, the mean values of maximum tensile stress were 1.11${\uparrow}$$Kgf/mm^{2}$ in Pyrost implanted specimens, 0.85 $Kgf/mm^{2}$ in Osteovit, 0.42 $Kgf/mm^{2}$ in Kiel bone, 0.66 $Kgf/mm^{2}$ in blood filled specimens and 1..13 $Kgf/mm^{2}$ in control. These results indicate that heterogenous bones grafted have little antigenicity to the host tissue, and that they mediate effectively osteoconduction by providing the scaffold for the bone formation. Pyrost and Osteovit appeared to be suitable for the clinical use.
Geophysical investigation in non-destructive testing is economically less expensive than boring testing and providing geotechnical information over wide-area. But, it provides only limited geotechnical information, which is hardly used to the design. Accordingly, we performed electrical resistivity experiments on large scale of soil model to analyze the correlation between electrical resistivity response and soil water contents. The soils used in the experiments were the Jumunjin standard sand and weathered granite soil. Each soil particle size distribution and coefficient of uniformity of experimental material obtained in the experiments were maintained in a state of the homogeneous. The specifications of the model used in this study is $160{\times}100{\times}50$(cm) of acrylic, and each soil was maintained at the height 30 cm. The water content were measured using the 5TE sensors (water contents sensors) which is installed 7 ~ 8 cm apart vertically by plugging to floor. The results of the resistivity behavior pattern for Jumunjin standard sand was found to be sensitive to the water content, while the weathered granite soil was showing lower resistivity over the time, and there was no significant change in behavior pattern observed. So, it results that the Jumunjin standard sand's particle current conduction was better than the weathered granite soil's particle through contact with the distilled water. This lab test was also compared with the result of a test bed site composed of similar weathered soil. It was confirmed that these experiments were underlying research of non-destructive investigation techniques to improve the accuracy to estimate the geotechnical parameter.

A new alternative method based on HWAW method to detect underground anomaly was introduced. The location of underground anomaly can be estimated by using 2-dimensional image of phase velocity image with position and wavelength based on distortion phenomena of surface wave due to underground anomaly. Overall procedure of proposed method such as field testing, signal processing and interpretation of the result was introduced. Numerical verification study was performed by using various ground models containing underground anomaly. According to the condition of anomaly, the propagation and reflection characteristics of surface wave were different and this could be more easily shown in the image of phase velocity. Some rules of distortion phenomena were found and these become clues for estimating underground anomaly in interpreting real field data. Field verification tests were performed with conventional geophysical methods such as DC resistivity method and GPR. Though field condition is not homogeneous like numerical models, similar distortion phenomena were found in the testing results and estimated location of underground anomaly was agreed well with the results of another geophysical methods.

The shear behavior of four different interfaces consisting of four types of geosynthetics was investigated, and both static and dynamic test for the geosynthetic interfaces were conducted. The monotonic shear experiments were performed by using an inclined board apparatus and large direct shear device. The interface shear strength obtained from the inclined board test was compared with calculated values from large direct shear tests. The comparison results indicated that direct shear tests show high possibility to over-predict the shear strength in the low normal stress range where direct shear tests are not performed. Curved failure envelopes were also obtained for interface cases where two static shear tests were conducted. By comparing the friction angles measured from three tests, i.e. direct shear, inclined board, and shaking table test, it was found that the friction angle might be different depending on the test method and normal stresses applied in the research. Therefore, it was concluded that the testing method should be determined carefully by considering the type of loads and the normal stress expected in the field with using the geosynthetic materials installed in the site.

A pressuremeter is an expandable tube which is placed in the soil, and then expanded under controlled condition against the soil. From this test a pressure expansion curve of the soil can be obtained. However soil disturbance during the test has significant influence on the results of tests. A general governing equation for pressuremeter test can be theoretically derived on the basis of the hyperbolic soil model and the cavity expansion theory. The curve fitting technique was used to establish the pressure-strain curve without disturbance of soil during testing. This interpretation makes use of both the loading and unloading portions of the test. An interpretation methodology is described and illustrated with pressuremeter test data carried out in the weathered granitic soil to estimate initial shear modulus. Standard penetration test is a very common site investigation technique in Korea. Therefore the blow counts of standard penetration test are discussed by comparing them with initial shear modulus.
Geotechnical evaluation on the reactive drain pile which can achieve simultaneously both the soft ground improvement and the remediation of contaminated pore water in reclamation site was performed. Applicability of steel-making slag used as a inside reactive material was confirmed. To investigate the consolidation characteristics of the soft ground improved by reactive drain pile, testing devices to form and install the reactive drain pile were developed and laboratory tests were performed according to the existence of outside sand drain and the length of impermeable barrier. Test results showed that the consolidation time was decreased as the shortening of impermeable barrier. However, the effect of outside sand drain on consolidation time was dominant compared with the length of impermeable barrier.
