  • The purpose of this study was to develop the problem solving instruction facilitating novice learner to represent the problem. For the purpose, we mainly focused on three aspects of problem solving. First, learner should represent the targeted problem and its solutions for problem solving. Second, from crucial notions of cognitive load theory, learner's mental load should be optimized for problem representation. Third, for optimizing students' mental load, experts may support making their thinking more visible and mapping from their intuition to expert practice. We drew the design principles as follows. First, since providing worked examples for the targeted problem has been considered to minimize analogical errors as well as reduce cognitive load in problem representation at line of problem solving and instructional research, it is needed to elaborate the way of designing. The worked example alternatively corresponds to expert schema that consists of domain knowledge as well as strategies for expert-like problem representation and solution. Thus, it may help learner to represent what the problem is and how to solve it in problem space. Second, principle can be that expert should scaffold learner's self-explanations. Because the students are unable to elicit the rationale from worked example, the expert's triggering scaffold may be critical in that process. The unexplained and incomplete parts of the example should be completed not by expert's scaffold but by themselves. Critical portion of the expert's scaffold is to explain about how to apply and represent the given problem, since students' initial representations may be reached at superficial or passive pattern of example elaboration. Finally, learner's mental model on the designated problem domain should be externalized or visualized for one's reflection as well as expert's scaffolding activities. The visualization helps learner to identify one's partial or incorrect model. The correct model of learner could be constructed by expert's help.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyse the current status of reference education and to suggest directions for reference education in America and in Korea. For this purpose, the historical developments of reference services, and the names, problems and changes of reference courses are studied. The findings of the study can be summarized as follows; 1. The names of reference courses are various. In America, On-Line Services or Information Services are used in general, but in Korea, Reference Services are widely used. 2. In America, some library schools have only subject literature courses including business, law, music, etc. instead of basic reference courses. 3. Only one reference course is given by most schools in America and in Korea. However, a few schools which have no graduate courses provide two reference courses in Korea. 4. Analysis of textbooks used in reference courses shows that Reference Research by Joon-Shik Park, Reference Services and Reference Sources by Ock-Soon Noh are used in general. In addition, Introduction to Reference Work by Katz is used. 5. Lecture methods are generally used in teaching reference courses, but reviews of reference materials in library, class presentation, and case study method are also used. It is desirable that role playing and pathfinders' used in U.S. are introduced to our schools. 6. Analysis of library user instruction courses in Korea shows that 7 of 11 universities have the courses,, only one university teaches library user instruction as a part of reference courses, 3 universities don't. 7. Analysis of opinions about the directions for reference education shows that changes of reference courses names, expansion of courses contents, emphasis on communication technique, changes of teaching methods, proper combination of theory vs. practice, an increase in electronic reference education and training of subject specialist are needed.

  • This paper presents a real-time PCB (Printed Circuit Board) vision inspection system. This system can detect the OPEN and SHORT of the PCB which of the line width is 150$\mu\textrm{m}$. Our PCB inspection system is based on the referential method. Since the size of the captured PCB image is very large, the image is divided into 512${\times}$512 images to apply the accurate alignment efficiently. To correct the misalignment between the reference image and the inspection image, pattern matching is performed. In order to implement the proposed algorithm in real-time, we use the SIMD instruction and the double buffering structures. Our experiential results show the effectiveness of the developed inspection algorithm.

  • The graph unit(chapter) is a good example of a topic in elementary school mathematics for which computer use can be incorporated as part of the instruction. Teaching graph can be facilitated by using the graphing utilities of computers, which make it possible to observe the property of many types of graphs. This study was concerned with utilizing an educational software Graphers as an instructional tool in teaching to help young students gain a better understanding of graph concepts. For this purpose, three types of instructional activities using Graphers were shown in the paper. Graphers is a data-gathering tool for creating pictorial data chosen from several data sets. They can represent their data on a table or with six types of graphs such as Pictograph, Bar Graph, Line Graph, Circle Graph, Grid Plot and Loops. They help students to select the graph(s) which are the most appropriate for the purpose of analyzing data while comparing various types of graphs. They also let them modify or change graphs, such as adding grid lines, changing the axis scale, or adding title and labels. Eventually, students have a chance to interpret graphs meaningfully and in their own way.

  • Applying iterative learning utilizing SNS & Community to the class for pre-kindergarten teachers, the effectiveness of teaching satisfaction, self-efficacy, and curriculum understanding was verified. A iterative learning model utilizing SNS & Community in teachers leading traditional off-line teaching at college education field was applied separately into thinking to one-self by advance organizer, thinking together by presentation in the beginning of the class, and sharing the thoughts by community activities after the class. Iterative learning begins by being sent SNS to students from teachers before the class, but learners for themselves subsequently start to proceed self-directed learning activities. As a result, class satisfaction and understanding of pedagogy have been increased, and it had a positive influence on self-efficacy. Thus, it is to suggest utilizable SNS of professors and a teaching method utilizing Community to college students who need basic learning skills.

  • This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of the curricular progression of the concepts and learning sequences of 'lines', specifically, 'line segments', 'straight lines', and 'rays', at the elementary school level. By examining mathematics curricula and textbooks, spanning from 2nd to 7th and 2007, 2009, 2015, and up to 2022 revised version, the study investigates the timing and methods of introducing these essential geometric concepts. It also explores the sequential delivery of instruction and the key focal points of pedagogy. Through the analysis of shifts in the timing and definitions, it becomes evident that these concepts of lines have predominantly been integrated as integral components of two-dimensional plane figures. This includes their role in defining the sides of polygons and the angles formed by lines. This perspective underscores the importance of providing ample opportunities for students to explore these basic geometric entities. Furthermore, the definitions of line segments, straight lines, and rays, their interrelations with points, and the relationships established between different types of lines significantly influence the development of these core concepts. Lastly, the study emphasizes the significance of introducing fundamental mathematical concepts, such as the notion of straight lines as the shortest distance in line segments and the concept of lines extending infinitely (infiniteness) in straight lines and rays. These ideas serve as foundational elements of mathematical thinking, emphasizing the necessity for students to grasp concretely these concepts through visualization and experiences in their daily surroundings. This progression aligns with a shift towards the comprehension of Euclidean geometry. This research suggests a comprehensive reassessment of how line concepts are introduced and taught, with a particular focus on connecting real-life exploratory experiences to the foundational principles of geometry, thereby enhancing the quality of mathematics education.

  • In school mathematics, the negative numbers have been instructed using the intuitive models such as the number line model, the counting model, and inductive-extrapolation on the additionand multiplication and using inverse operation on the subtraction and division. Theseinstructions on the negative numbers did not present their formal nature and caused the difficulty for students to understand their operations because of the incomplete function of the intuitive models. In this study, we tried to improve such problems of the instructions of the negative numbers on the basis of the didactical phenomenological analysis. First of all, we analysed the nature of the negative numbers and the cognitive obstructions through the examination about the historic process of them. Second, we examined hew the nature of the negative numbers were analysed and described in mathematics. Third, we explored the improving directions for them on the ground of the didactical phenomenological analysis. In school mathematics, the rules of operations using the intuitive models of the negative numbers have been Instructed rather than approaching toward the nature of them. The negative numbers have been developed from the necessity to find the general solution of equations. The study tries to approach the operations instructions of the negative numbers formative]y to overcome the problems of those that are using the intuitive models and to reflect the formative Furthermore of the negative numbers. Furthermore, we examine the way of the instruction of the negative numbers in real context so that the algebraic feature and the real context should be Interactive.
