  • The purpose of this parer is to provide a survey of the state of the art of routing methods in store-and-forward computer networks. The survey is carried out in line with a new taxonomy: heuristic methods, user-optimization methods, and system-optimization methods. This taxonomy on routing algorithms is based on two viewpoints: the level of optimization and the relative difficulty for the implementation in real computer networks. Some actual methods implemented in real computer networks are surveyed as well as the theoretical studies in the literature. This paper concludes with some points in need of further researches.

  • In this paper, we propose new on-line processor management algorithms that manage heterogeneous multimedia services while maximizing energy efficiency. These online management mechanisms are combined in an integrated scheme for higher system performance and energy efficiency. The most important feature of our proposed scheme is its adaptability, flexibility and responsiveness to current network conditions. Simulation results clearly indicate the superior performance of our proposed scheme to strike the appropriate performance balance between contradictory requirements.

  • Besides empirical algorithms with the blue-green ratio, the algorithms based on fluorescence are also important and valid methods for retrieving chlorophyll-a concentration in the ocean waters, especially for Case II waters and the sea with algal blooming. This study reviews the history of initial cognitions, investigations and detailed approaches towards chlorophyll fluorescence, and then introduces the biological mechanism of fluorescence remote sensing and main spectral characteristics such as the positive correlation between fluorescence and chlorophyll concentration, the red shift phenomena. Meanwhile, there exist many influence factors that increase complexity of fluorescence remote sensing, such as fluorescence quantum yield, physiological status of various algae, substances with related optical property in the ocean, atmospheric absorption etc. Based on these cognitions, scientists have found two ways to calculate the amount of fluorescence detected by ocean color sensors: fluorescence line height and reflectance ratio. These two ways are currently the foundation for retrieval of chlorophyll-a concentration in the ocean. As the in-situ measurements and synchronous satellite data are continuously being accumulated, the fluorescence remote sensing of chlorophyll-a concentration in Case II waters should be recognized more thoroughly and new algorithms could be expected.

  • Gas turbine performance diagnostics is a method for detecting, isolating and quantifying faults in gas turbine gas path components. On-line precise fault diagnosis can promote greatly reliability and availability of gas turbine in real time operation. This work proposes a GUI-type on-line diagnostic program using SIMULINK and Fuzzy-Neuro algorithms for a helicopter turboshaft engine. During development of the diagnostic program, a look-up table type base performance module are used for reducing computer calculating time and a signal generation module for simulating real time performance data. This program is composed of the on-line condition monitoring program to monitor on-line measuring performance condition, the fuzzy inference system to isolate the faults from measuring data and the neural network to quantify the isolated faults. Evaluation of the proposed on-line diagnostic program is performed through application to the helicopter engine health monitoring.

  • This paper proposes an on-line method of understanding humans conducting action observed through a vision sensor. The vision system captures images of conducting action and extracts image coordinates of endpoint of the baton. A proposed algorithm based on the expert knowledge about conducting recognizes patterns of the conducting action from the extracted image coordimates and play the corresponding music score. Complementary algorithms are also proposed for identifying the first beat static point and dynamics through extensive experiments, this algorithm is found to detect lower edges and upper edges without error.

  • The acoustic phenomena in the actual sound systems involve a variety of compound problems. In this paper, the well-known Bayes' theorem is first employed and expanded into orthonormal and non-orthonomal series forms matched to the digital processing of lower and higher order statistical informations and the noisy observations. Proposed on-line algorithms of digital filter type are applied to the actual state estimation for a reverberation characteristics in a room under contamination of background noises.

  • This article studies a modified BFGS algorithm for solving smooth unconstrained strongly convex minimization problem. The modified BFGS method is based on the new quasi-Newton equation $B_k+1{^s}_k=yk\;where\;y_k^*=yk+A_ks_k\;and\;A_k$ is a matrix. Wei, Li and Qi [WLQ] have proven that the average performance of two of those algorithms is better than that of the classical one. In this paper, we prove the global convergence of these algorithms associated to a general line search rule.

  • Recently, actor-critic methods have drawn significant interests in the area of reinforcement learning, and several algorithms have been studied along the line of the actor-critic strategy. In this paper, we consider a new type of actor-critic algorithms employing the kernel methods, which have recently shown to be very effective tools in the various fields of machine learning, and have performed investigations on combining the actor-critic strategy together with kernel methods. More specifically, this paper studies actor-critic algorithms utilizing the kernel-based least-squares estimation and policy gradient, and in its critic's part, the study uses a sliding-window-based kernel least-squares method, which leads to a fast and efficient value-function-estimation in a nonparametric setting. The applicability of the considered algorithms is illustrated via a robot locomotion problem and a tunnel ventilation control problem.

  • Two inertial extragradient-type algorithms are introduced for solving convex pseudomonotone variational inequalities with fixed point problems, where the associated mapping for the fixed point is a 𝜌-demicontractive mapping. The algorithm employs variable step sizes that are updated at each iteration, based on certain previous iterates. One notable advantage of these algorithms is their ability to operate without prior knowledge of Lipschitz-type constants and without necessitating any line search procedures. The iterative sequence constructed demonstrates strong convergence to the common solution of the variational inequality and fixed point problem under standard assumptions. In-depth numerical applications are conducted to illustrate theoretical findings and to compare the proposed algorithms with existing approaches.
