This study is to investigate the contents and status of documentary records based on "Hyogyeongdang Gyechukmun" related to the Old House of Papyeong Yun's family. This house is located in Goegok-dong, Daejeon Metropolitan city, and is considered as one of the high-class houses in the mid-Chosun dynasty. The results might be summarized as follows: First, Hyogyeongdang Gyechukmun was written by Yun Seom in 1675 (the 1st year of King Sukjong's reign), which is a kind of general drawing book containing a plane figure and a bird's-eye-view of the old house. It is an important historical record to identify the feature and characteristics of the high-class houses in those days. Second, Papyeong Yun's Old House was founded with five buildings including a shrine, women's quarters, Hyogyeongdang, servants' quarters, and a warehouse. On the southern front, there used to be a pond. Third, the standard measure used to build the old house was about 310.00/尺(chuck). Chuck(尺) is the measuring unit of the Chosun Dynasty.

Purpose : The study aimed to examine gender-differences in muscle tone, elasticity, and stiffness of the erector spinae in young and old subjects. This study also aimed to assess the effect of aging on muscle tone, elasticity, and stiffness of the erector spinae in men and women, and compare the trend of the aging effect between the two gender groups. Methods : With the muscle in the relaxed state and subjects in the prone position, a myotonometer was used to quantify muscle tone, elasticity, and stiffness, of the erector spinae in 102 participants[46 males (29 young subjects, aged 22.48±2.23 years and 17 old subjects, aged 76.35±3.71 years), 56 females (40 young subjects, aged 20.38±1.43 years and 16 old subjects, aged 74.56±5.40 years)]. Results : The tone and stiffness of the erector spinae muscles were greater in men than in women for both age groups (p<.001-.01), while elasticity did not show a significant difference between men and women. For the direction of change, both male and female groups showed significantly increased tone and stiffness, and decreased elasticity with increasing age (p<.001). For age-related changes, a different tendency was observed between men and women. Men showed a greater increase in tone than women with aging. in contrast, both men and women exhibited a similar decrease or increase in elasticity and stiffness. Conclusion : Gender-differences in the erector spinae in terms of muscle tone and stiffness were observed. Regardless of the age, men had higher muscle tone and stiffness than women, but not elasticity. The erector spinae muscles showed age-related changes in all aspects of muscle tone, elasticity, and stiffness, in both men and women. Notably, men presented greater variation than women in the amount of increase of muscle tone with aging. These findings have implications for musculoskeletal therapeutic approaches, and gender-customized tuning may be indicated for designing exercise interventions to prevent and manage gender-sensitive muscular injuries or diseases and frailty.
The purpose of this article is to examine the conflicts and political implications of the various linguistic practices concerning how to call old age, and to illuminate the reasons for these conflicts in the cultural sphere. Recently, the issue of proper ways of calling old age has become problematized. As a result, new ways of addressing older people are being devised, which signifies the marginalization of old age. These new ways of calling older people, however, are not settling the problems. It is because the ageist, gender-discriminatory, status-conscious culture of Korea marginalizes the meaning of the various ways of calling old age. As the otherization of old age deepens in the cultural realm, old age becomes a site where various features of marginality accumulate. The academy and the professionals need to be aware of the political implications of the various ways of calling old age, and to strive to surmount discriminatory linguistic practices.
Background: Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women worldwide. Failure to prevent cervical cancer is partly due to non-participation in regular screening. It is important to plan and develop screening programs directed towards underscreened women. In order to identify the factors associated with underscreening for cervical cancer among women, this study examined Pap test participation and factors associated with not having a time-appropriate (within 3 years) Pap test among a representative sample of women in Ontario, Canada using Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) data. Materials and Methods: Univariate analyses, cross-tabulations, and logistic regression modeling were conducted using cross-sectional data from the 2007-2008 CCHS. Analyses were restricted to 13,549 sexually active women aged 18-69 years old living in Ontario, with no history of hysterectomy. Results: Almost 17% of women reported they had not had a time-appropriate Pap test. Not having a time-appropriate Pap test was associated with being 40-69 years old, single, having low education and income, not having a regular doctor, being of Asian (Chinese, South Asian, other Asian) cultural background, less than excellent health, and being a recent immigrant. Conclusions: Results indicate that disparities still exist in terms of who is participating in cervical cancer screening. It is crucial to develop and implement cervical cancer screening programs that not only target the general population, but also those who are less likely to obtain a Pap tests.

This study was done to investigate the effects of family relationship on satisfaction with life in women immigrants. The participants were 346 women immigrants in S city, Chungnam province. The data were collected through self-reported questionnaires which were constructed to include such scales as satisfaction with life and family relationship. First, satisfaction with family relationship ranked in order of couple, parents-in-law, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Second, as the women immigrants were younger, and their wedding time was shorter, satisfaction with couple was higher. Third, when women immigrants were between 20 and 30 years old in age, and between 2006 and 2010 in wedding year, satisfaction with parents-in-law were higher. Fourth, when women immigrants were between 20 and 30 years old in age, and 2006 and 2010 in wedding year, satisfaction with brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law were higher. Fifth, satisfaction with life was higher for women immigrants with younger age, lower educational level, and shorter residence and wedding time. Sixth, curve term more accounted for relationship between satisfaction with parents-in-law and life. Seventh, significant predictors influencing satisfaction with life were satisfaction with couple, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
This study aims to investigate the relationship between quality of life, activities of daily living, and depression among Korean super-aged women. In this study, the 7th (2018) data of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA) were used. The participants in this study were 363 super-aged women. The mean age was 88.67 years old. Quality of life was significantly related with Activities of daily living (ADL) (r = .34, p < .001), and depression (r = -.47, p < .001). The analysis of the hypothesized model showed a good fit to the data except for the χ2 value (χ2 = 38.8, df = 11, p < .001, CFI = .98, TLI = .96, RMSEA = 0.08). The hypothesized model explained 34% of the variance in super-aged women. The activities of daily living of elderly women had an indirect effect on quality of life via depression. Very old women with a high level of ADL were more likely to be feeling less depression, and elderly people who had less depression were likely to have a better quality of life. The findings thus highlight prevailing depression and activities of daily living as critical foci for clinical management strategies in super-aged women.
In order to provide the basic data for planning of stairways design in elderly housing, the study of Ergonomics were exmined. 3 old women and 3 female subjects were tested: 1) The relations between blood pressure and pulse: In case of the old, blood pressure was the highest at 13 cm and pulse was the highest at 23 cm. But in case of the young, the former was the highest at 23 cm and the latter was at 13 cm. 2) EMG: According to the height of stairs, the significant differences on the statistics were not seen. 3) Riviewing that biological characters according to the finishing materials, in case of the old groups, they feel most stable, as they up the wooden stairs. While they feel very dangerous, as they up the stairs where carpet is on. In the biological characters according to the stairs heights and the finishing materials, the most stable conditions for the old are 15 cm-high-stairs, wooden. And even if the stairs used inside the house, the installment of the handrails at both side must be considered.
The purposes of this research were to find out general trends of family value orientations among adolescent, middle and old generation and to investigate the differences according to related variables. For this study, three kinds of questionnaire were used and the data were obtained through 1194 samples of three generation groups living in Seoul and Kwangju. The traditional trends of old generation's value orientations were outstanding while adolescents relatively showed modernized value orientations. The value differences between adolescent and middle generation were larger than between middle and old generation. Especially value orientations of children and sex-role were largely changed, but familism was relatively preserved even in adolescent generation. The family value orientations differed significantly according to gender, age, eduaction level, income, occupation, and family type. Generally middle and adolescent women showed more modernized value orientatons than men and value orientations of three generation were most likely to be correlated with family satisfaction level.
This study was designed to investigate the effects of aerobic and /or Ca supplementation for six months on lipid metabolism and blood pressure in postmenopausal women. The subjects were healthy 29 women aged from 60 to 70 years old. They were divided into four groups: placebo and Ca supplementation group with and without exercise. The amount of Ca supplemented was 500mg a day. The frequency of doing exercise was three times a week and each time, it took 40 minutes to complete all the course of aerobic dancing programmed for old women. During the experimental period, the subjects ate their usual diets and the use of druge as well as additional exercise was prohibited. The results were summarized as follows. 1. Percent body fat and BMI were significantly decreased and the body weight tended to decreased due to aerobic dancing. 2. Serum lipids content tended to show only a slihgt changes due to Ca supplementation: serum triglyceride, total-chol, LDL-chol, FFA content tended to decrease but serum HDL-chol / LDL-chol ratio tended to increase after the experiment in Ca group. On the contrary, serum lipids level was not changed by exercise. 3. Blood pressure did not show any significant changes by Ca supplementation and / or exercise for 6 months in old women. 4. Serum Ca level of Ca group was significantly increased after experiment in Ca group (p<0.05) but not in Ex-Ca group. In summarization, it appeared that the aerobic dancing was a definite way to reduce percent body fat and BMI in postmenopausal women. On the other hand, Ca supplementation seemed to be able to induce favorable changes in serum lipids. However, any synergistic metabolic effects of exercise and Ca supplementation was not seen in this study. Further study is needed to elucidate the relationship between exercise and/or Ca supplementation and the changes in blood lipids profile as well as blood pressure more clearly.
