An Unambiguous Correlation Function of TMBOC Signal for Satellite Communication of Vessels (선박의 위성 통신을 위한 TMBOC 신호의 비모호 상관함수)

  • In this paper, we propose an unambiguous correlation function for time-multiplexed binary offset carrier (TMBOC) signal tracking. Specifically, considering that the TMBOC modulation transmits two kinds of sine-phased BOC signals in time domain alternatively, we generate sub-correlation functions for each of the BOC signals by using split sine-phased BOC signals, and then, obtain a correlation function with no side-peak by recombining the sub-correlation functions. From numerical results, we confirm that the proposed correlation function offers an improved tracking error standard deviation performance than the TMBOC autocorrelation function.

Code Tracking Scheme for Cosine Phased BOC Signals Based on Combination of Sub-correlations (부상관함수 결합에 기반한 Cosine 위상 BOC 코드 추적 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel unambiguous code tracking scheme for cosine phased binary offset carrier (BOC) signals. We first obtain the sub-correlation functions composing the BOC autocorrelation function, and then, re-combine the sub-correlation functions generating a correlation function with no side-peak. Finally, by using the correlation function with no side-peak in the delay lock loop, the proposed scheme performs unambiguous signal tracking. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme provides a performance improvement over the conventional unambiguous scheme in terms of the tracking error standard deviation (TESD).

  • OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) is an effective modulation technique for high speed transmission over fading channels. However, it has a high bit error rate in the receiver if there is an error on frame synchronization because of phase rotation. A coherent OFDM system has to acquire exact timing synchronization of fraction and integer sampling positions. When a sampling offset exist the performance of a receiver will be degraded severely. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that acquires the fractional sampling offset in OFDM systems. This scheme compares the channel impulse responses with the early and late sampled signals having 0.5 sample offset from the estimated sampling positions by correlation with the received and training samples. Its performance is verified by computer simulations in multipath channels.

  • In this paper, blind synchronization algorithm is developed for estimating jointly timing and frequency offset of OFDM system. The proposed estimator exploits the second-order cyclostationarity of received signals, and then uses the information of symbol timing and carrier frequency offset appeared in the cyclic correlation. As a bling estimator, the information of impulse response of channel and training symbols are not required. The performance of the proposed method is consistent in spite of channel conditions in mean squre error sense, and simulation results prove it. For more accurate estimaion, the method that averages cyclic correlation is applied. In this case, the performance of averaging method is better.

  • In this paper, Digital MultiTone(DMT) is an emerging multi-carrier modulation scheme, which has been adopted for VDSL(Very high speed Digital Subscribe Line). A problem of DMT is its sensitivity to frequency offset between the transmitted and received carrier frequencies. This frequency offset introduces inter-carrier interference(ICI) in the DMT symbol. This paper is proposed an ICI cancelation scheme using Kalman Filtering. The performance of the proposed method is compared with conventional methods in terms of bit error rate performance, bandwidth efficiency, and computational complexity. Through simulations, it is shown that for high values of the frequency offset and for higher order modulation schemes, the EKF(Enhanced Kalman Filtering) method perform better than the others.

Adaptive Threshold Detection Using Expectation-Maximization Algorithm for Multi-Level Holographic Data Storage (멀티레벨 홀로그래픽 저장장치를 위한 적응 EM 알고리즘)

  • We propose an adaptive threshold detector algorithm for multi-level holographic data storage based on the expectation-maximization (EM) method. In this paper, the signal intensities that are passed through the four-level holographic channel are modeled as a four Gaussian mixture with unknown DC offsets and the threshold levels are estimated based on the maximum likelihood criterion. We compare the bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed algorithm with the non-adaptive threshold detection algorithm for various levels of DC offset and misalignments. Our proposed algorithm shows consistently acceptable performance when the DC offset variance is fixed or the misalignments are lower than 20%. When the DC offset varies with each page, the BER of the proposed method is acceptable when the misalignments are lower than 10% and DC offset variance is 0.001.

  • This study measures the change of ice flow velocity of David Glacier, one of the fast-moving glaciers in East Antarctica that drains through Drygalski Ice Tongue. In order to effectively observe the rapid flow velocity, we applied the offset tracking technique to Sentinel-1A SAR images obtained from 2016 to 2020 with 36-day temporal baseline. The resulting velocity maps were averaged and the two relatively fast points (A1 and A2) were selected for further time-series analysis. The flow velocity increased during the Antarctic summer (around December to March) over the four years' observation period probably due to the ice surface melting and reduced friction on the ice bottom. Bedmap2 showed that the fast flow velocities at A1 and A2 are associated with a sharp decrease in the ice surface and bottom elevation so that ice volumetric cross-section narrows down and the crevasses are being created on the ice surface. The local maxima in standard deviation of ice velocity, S1 and S2, showed random temporal fluctuation due to the rotational ice swirls causing error in offset tracking method. It is suggested that more robust offset tracking method is necessary to incorporate rotational motion.

Sliced Multi-modulus Blind Equalization Algorithm

  • Many multi-modulus blind equalization algorithms (MMA) have been presented in the past to overcome the undesirable high misadjustment exhibited by the well-known constant modulus algorithm. Some of these MMA schemes, specifically tailored for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) constellations, have also been proved to fix the phase offset error without needing any rotator at the end of the equalizer stage. In this paper, a new multi-modulus algorithm is presented for QAM signals. The contribution lies in the technique to incorporate the sliced symbols (outcomes of decision device) in the multi-modulus-based weight adaptation process. The convergence characteristics of the proposed sliced multi-modulus algorithm (S-MMA) is demonstrated by way of simulations, and it is shown that it gives better steady-state performance in terms of residual inter-symbol interference and symbol-error rate. It has also been shown that the proposed algorithm exhibits lesser steady-state misadjustment compared to the best reported MMA.

  • In this paper, to draw out the parameter of synchronization for ADSL(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) chip design, we analyze the performance of STR(Symbol Timing Recovery) and frame synchronization with computer simulation. We analyze and design PLL(Phase Lock Loop) loop for ADSL. As a result, we obtained the optimum parameter of STR to design ADSL chip. Also, when performed frame synchronization with several algorithm, we analyzed the performance of FER(Frame Error Rate) and the effect of frame offset with computer simulation.

  • This paper presents an implementation of a calibration circuit to correct the gain error, DC offset and sampling clock phase error generated in the process of converting digital pixels to analog pixels to drive an analog-driven 4K UHD LCOS panel. The proposed calibration circuit consists of a gain and DC offset adjustment circuit and a sampling clock phase adjustment circuit. The calibration circuit is implemented with an FPGA device, and video amplifiers.
