  • This paper explores the relationship between working hours and the residual gender wage gap in Korea. Because the labor practice of working long hours in Korea favors men, who tend to spend little time on domestic labor, long working hours can influence the residual gender wage gap by discriminating against women. We analyze this discrimination empirically, and find the following results. First, the returns from working long hours are not high in most occupations in Korea. Second, working hours have a positive effect on the residual gender wage gap in male-dominated occupations, but not in female-dominated ones.

  • The purpose of this study is to introduce a relative specialization index, the Nam-Oh-Hong Index(NOHI) and to investigate regional distribution of occupational specialization using the newly developed index. Compared with Location Quotient(LQ), the advantages of the index is that the NOHI enables comparison between inter-regional and intra-regional concentration of employment possible at the same time. The results of the specialization analyses show that Seoul is specialized in management, book-keeping and office related occupations, whereas Busan in machine and material related occupations.

The stimuli were composed of 24 color photographs which were made of 6 types of clothing and 18 wearers who were made of 3 levels of facial attractiveness in combination with 6 types of clothing. The subjects were 288 male and 288 female university students. The subjects chose an occupation among 19 occupations presented for 6 types of clothing and the wearers. Also the subjects' inferences of occupational characteristics for the clothing were measured by semantic\ulcornerdiffenential scales. The results were as follows: 1) As a whole, the infered occupation for each of the clothing types was consistent with the expected occupations in this study. "Therefore there were stereotypes about male clothing type. At the same time, the halo effect of facial attractiveness appeared when subjects infered wearer's occupation. 2) The subjects' responses to the semantic-differential scales about 6 types of clothing were factor analyzed to identify the underlying constructs of occupational characteristics. At the result, 4 factors were emerged. The first factor was interpreted to Apperance/ Ability, the second, Indi~iduality, the third, Naivety, and the fourth, Dominancy. 3) The male clothing type influenced on the 3 factors except the Dominancy factor.nancy factor.

  • A survey of ecological aspects of food, focused on breakfast of 1,526 adults with various professional occupations such as professors, teachers, employees of government, bank and company, and 1,928 students of various levels in the urban areas, was conducted from March, 1984 to February, 1985. The results were shown as follows: Significancy was found between appetite at breakfast, and bed time, status of sleep, eating outside the home on the previous evening, meal or snack of the previous late evening, and exercise before breakfast. The study showed that only 15.2% of the subjects had a good appetite at breakfast; 28.1% had a poor appetite; others had indifferences. About 45% of the subjects had their evening meal between 7pm. and 8pm.; bank employees had breakfast further later than 9pm.. Surprisingly, 31.3% of the subjects had snacks later than 10pm..Nearly one-fourth of subjects, in general, and 34.4% of the subjects in Seoul, had breakfast by themselves due to different schedules of family members. Breakfast patterns of the subjects during a period of 7 days were distributed as follows: 5.5 times for rice-oriented Korean meal; 0.6 times for bread type meal; 0.9 times for the omission of meal. The study described that the subjects who had bread type breakfast consumed only 3.7 items of food, whereas the subjects who had Korean breakfast consumed 7.1 items, on the average. Better breakfast eating habits for an adequate daily diet should be emphasized through nutrition education for adolescents and at the worksite.

  • The occupations involved in food animal production have long been recognized to carry significant health risks for workers, with special attention to injuries. However, risk of pathogen exposure in these occupations has been less extensively considered. Pathogens are a food safety issue and are known to be present throughout the food animal production chain. Workers employed at farms and slaughterhouses are at risk of pathogen exposure and bacterial infections. The industrialization of animal farming and the use of antimicrobials in animal feed to promote growth have increased the development of antimicrobial resistance. The changed nature of these pathogens exposes workers in this industry to new strains, thus modifying the risks and health consequences for these workers. These risks are not yet recognized by any work-related health and safety agency in the world.

  • Consumers are not simply consuming products anymore. They now take part in developing new products. Thus, it is essential that we devise a variety of consumer-oriented marketing strategies to keep close relationships with consumers. The purposes of this study were as follows: 1) to explore the relationship between customer participation and surveys on its effect, 2) to compare groups with respect to customer participation, and 3) to see whether there is a cause-effect relationship between the customer participation and surveys on its effect. Frequency analysis, correlative analysis and discriminate analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of testing hypotheses can be summarized as follows. we find that, as for customer participation factors, there is significant relationships among survey factors including customer satisfaction, cost reduction, customers' prior occupations. The current analysis exhibits favorable results in the customer participation and such factors. The analysis shows that there is significant difference between the active groups and the passive groups in all the new product development related factors; customer satisfaction, cost reduction, customers' prior occupations. Finally, this perhaps indicates that the result of the survey depends on whether firms are positive or negative in introducing customer participation.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing hospital staffs' performance ability of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Methods: The study was conducted with 250 hospital staffs in B hospital located in Busan. The survey data were collected from August 1 to September 15, 2012 and were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS WIN 19.0 program. Results: There were statistically significant differences in performance ability of CPR depending on occupations, CPR experience, CPR situations, identification of Automated external defibrillator (AED) location within the hospital, AED use experience, CPR training experience and AED training experience. A significant positive correlation was found between CPR knowledge and performance ability in addition to a significant positive correlation between CPR attitude and to performance ability. The significant factors influencing performance ability of CPR were CPR attitude, occupations, CPR training experience, knowledge and identification of AED location within the hospital. Those factors explained about 40.1% of the variance. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a strategy for hospital staff to improve the levels of performance ability of CPR.
