In this paper, we propose a simple online multiple object (human) tracking method, LKDeep (Lucas-Kanade feature and Detection based Simple Online Multiple Object Tracker), which can run in fast online enough on CPU core only with acceptable tracking performance for embedded surveillance purpose. The proposed LKDeep is a pragmatic hybrid approach which tracks multiple objects (humans) mainly based on LK features but is compensated by detection on periodic times or on necessity times. Compared to other state-of-the-art multiple object tracking methods based on 'Tracking-By-Detection (TBD)' approach, the proposed LKDeep is faster since it does not have to detect object on every frame and it utilizes simple association rule, but it shows a good object tracking performance. Through experiments in comparison with other multiple object tracking (MOT) methods using the public DPM detector among online state-of-the-art MOT methods reported in MOT challenge [1], it is shown that the proposed simple online MOT method, LKDeep runs faster but with good tracking performance for surveillance purpose. It is further observed through single object tracking (SOT) visual tracker benchmark experiment [2] that LKDeep with an optimized deep learning detector can run in online fast with comparable tracking performance to other state-of-the-art SOT methods.
Reconstruction of 3D objects from a single view image is generally an ill-posed problem because of the projection distortion. A monocular vision based 3D object localization method is proposed in this paper, which approximates an object on the ground to a simple bounding solid and works automatically without any prior information about the object. A spherical or cylindrical object determined based on a circularity measure is approximated to a bounding cylinder, while the other general free-shaped objects to a bounding box or a bounding cylinder appropriately. For a general object, its silhouette on the ground is first computed by back-projecting its projected image in image plane onto the ground plane and then a base rectangle on the ground is determined by using the intuition that touched parts of the object on the ground should appear at lower part of the silhouette. The base rectangle is adjusted and extended until a derived bounding box from it can enclose the general object sufficiently. Height of the bounding box is also determined enough to enclose the general object. When the general object looks like a round-shaped object, a bounding cylinder that encloses the bounding box minimally is selected instead of the bounding box. A bounding solid can be utilized to localize a 3D object on the ground and to roughly estimate its volume. Usefulness of our approach is presented with experimental results on real image objects and limitations of our approach are discussed.

Vision-based activity recognition has been widely attempted at construction sites to estimate productivity and enhance workers' health and safety. Previous studies have focused on extracting an individual worker's postural information from sequential image frames for activity recognition. However, various trades of workers perform different tasks with similar postural patterns, which degrades the performance of activity recognition based on postural information. To this end, this research exploited a concept of human-object interaction, the interaction between a worker and their surrounding objects, considering the fact that trade workers interact with a specific object (e.g., working tools or construction materials) relevant to their trades. This research developed an approach to understand the context from sequential image frames based on four features: posture, object, spatial features, and temporal feature. Both posture and object features were used to analyze the interaction between the worker and the target object, and the other two features were used to detect movements from the entire region of image frames in both temporal and spatial domains. The developed approach used convolutional neural networks (CNN) for feature extractors and activity classifiers and long short-term memory (LSTM) was also used as an activity classifier. The developed approach provided an average accuracy of 85.96% for classifying 12 target construction tasks performed by two trades of workers, which was higher than two benchmark models. This experimental result indicated that integrating a concept of the human-object interaction offers great benefits in activity recognition when various trade workers coexist in a scene.
The purpose of this study is to present a new function point estimation approach for the Object-Oriented information systems. In order to fulfill this purpose, we first review the literature on Function Point Analysis of IFPUG, Unified Modeling Language, and Unified Process. Then, we derive a method and rules for estimating Function Points based on Use Cases and Class Diagrams. To analyze the appropriateness of the proposed approach, we conduct the empirical testing. 143 use cases are collected from production, marketing, distribution, sales, and other areas from the Object-Oriented systems development projects. We compare our new approach with the existing methods that are usually used for traditional systems development projects. The results show that our proposed approach is more appropriate for the Object-Oriented environment.
Since world container throughput continues to grow, the main issues facing decision-makers at port container terminals are how to expand the existing container terminals and construct new container terminals. Simulations can be used in the decision making process tools due to its ease and ability to reflect the real world system. The object-oriented approach provides for both reusability and modularity that best fits these requirements. In this paper, the object-oriented approach to modeling and simulating general container terminals is presented. Retrieving a 3D model from a 3D database and augmenting the retrieved model in the Augmented Reality system simultaneously became an issue in developing the plausible AR environments in a convenient fashion. It is considered that the sketch-based 3D object retrieval is an intuitive way for searching 3D objects based on human-drawn sketches as query. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning based approach of retrieving a sketch-based 3D object as for an Augmented Reality Model. For this work, we introduce a new method which uses Sketch CNN, Wasserstein CNN and Wasserstein center loss for retrieving a sketch-based 3D object. Especially, Wasserstein center loss is used for learning the center of each object category and reducing the Wasserstein distance between center and features of the same category. The proposed 3D object retrieval and augmentation consist of three major steps as follows. Firstly, Wasserstein CNN extracts 2D images taken from various directions of 3D object using CNN, and extracts features of 3D data by computing the Wasserstein barycenters of features of each image. Secondly, the features of the sketch are extracted using a separate Sketch CNN. Finally, we adopt sketch-based object matching method to localize the natural marker of the images to register a 3D virtual object in AR system. Using the detected marker, the retrieved 3D virtual object is augmented in AR system automatically. By the experiments, we prove that the proposed method is efficiency for retrieving and augmenting objects.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) identifies a specific object by radio signals. As the tag provides a unique ID for the purpose of identification, RFID technology effectively solves the ambiguity and occlusion problem that challenges the laser or camera-based approach. This paper proposes an approach to track a moving object based on the integration of RFID and laser ranging information using a particle filter. To be precise, we split laser scan points into different clusters which contain the potential moving objects and calculate the radial velocity of each cluster. The velocity information is compared with the radial velocity estimated from RFID phase difference. In order to achieve the positioning of the moving object, we select a number of K best matching clusters to update the weights of the particle filter. To further improve the positioning accuracy, we incorporate RFID signal strength information into the particle filter using a pre-trained sensor model. The proposed approach is tested on a SCITOS service robot under different types of tags and various human velocities. The results show that fusion of signal strength and laser ranging information has significantly increased the positioning accuracy when compared to radial velocity matching-based or signal strength-based approaches. The proposed approach provides a solution for human machine interaction and object tracking, which has potential applications in many fields for example supermarkets, libraries, shopping malls, and exhibitions.

In this paper, a new matching strategy for 3-D object recognition, based on the Surface Normal Images (SNIs), is proposed. The matching strategy using the similarity decision function [9,10] lost the efficiency and the reliability of matching, because all features of models within model base must be compared with the scene object features, and the weights of the attributes of features is given by heuristic manner. However, the proposed matching strategy can solve these problems by using a new approach. In the approach, by searching the model base, a model object whose features are fully matched with the features of sceme object is selected. In this paper, the model base is constructed for the total 26 objects, and systhetic and real range images are used in the test of the system operation. Experimental result is performed to show the possibility that this strategy can be effectively used for the SNI based recognition.
This paper showed how to analysis the object-based classification for wildfire fuel type map using Hyperion hyperspectral remote sensing data acquired in April, 2002 and compared the results of the object-based classification with the results of the pixel-based classification. Our methodological approach for wildfire fuel type map firstly processed correcting abnormal pixels and atypical bands and also calibrating atmospheric noise for enhanced image quality. Fuel type map is characterized by the results of the spectral mixture analysis(SMA). Object-based approach was based on segment-based endmember selection, while pixel-based method used standard SMA. To validate and compare, we used true-color high resolution orthoimagery.
