The world's first geostationary ocean color imager (GOCI) is a three-mirror anastigmat optical system 140 mm in diameter. Designed for 500 m ground sampling distance, this paper deals with on-orbit modulation transfer function (MTF)measurement and analysis for GOCI. First, the knife-edge and point source methods were applied to the 8th band (865 nm) image measured April 5th, 2011. The target details used are the coastlines of the Korean peninsula and of Japan, and an island 400 meters in diameter. The resulting MTFs are 0.35 and 0.34 for the Korean East Coastline and Japanese West Coastline edge targets, respectively, and 0.38 for the island target. The daily and seasonal MTF variations at the Nyquist frequency were also checked, and the result is $0.32{\pm}0.04$ on average. From these results, we confirm that the GOCI on-orbit MTF performance satisfies the design requirements of 0.32 for 865 nm wavelength.

This paper challenges the fabrication of a thin film energy storage device on a flexible polymer substrate specifically by replacing most commonly used metal foil current collectors with coated current collectors. Mass-manufacturable spray-coating technology enables the fabrication of two different half-cell electric double layer capacitors (EDLC) with a spray-coated silver paste current collector and a Ni foil current collector. The larger specific capacitances of the half-cell EDLC with the spray-coated silver current collector are obtained as 103.86 F/g and 76.8 F/g for scan rates of 10 mV/s and 500 mV/s, respectively. Further, even though the half-cell EDLC with the spray-coated current collector is heavier than that with the Ni foil current collector, smaller Warburg impedance and contact resistance are characterized from Nyquist plots. For the applied voltages ranging from -0.5 V to 0.5 V, the spray-coated thin film energy storage device exhibits a better performance.

A 6-bit 3.4 GS/s flash ADC in a 65 nm CMOS process is reported along with the proposed 4x time-domain interpolation technique which allows the reduction of the number of comparators from the conventional $2^N-1$ to $2^{N-2}$ in a N-bit flash ADC. The proposed scheme effectively achieves a 4x interpolation factor with simple SR-latches without extra clocking and calibration hardware overhead in the interpolated stage where only offset between the $2^{N-2}$ comparators needs to be calibrated. The offset in SR-latches is within ${\pm}0.5$ LSB in the reported ADC under a wide range of process, voltage supply, and temperature (PVT). The design considerations of the proposed technique are detailed in this paper. The prototype achieves 3.4 GS/s with 5.4-bit ENOB at Nyquist and consumes 12.6 mW power at 1 V supply, yielding a Walden FoM of 89 fJ/conversion-step.
The present work is concerned with characterization of surface roughness and inhomogeneity of four kinds of hot-rolled carbon steels in terms of the fractal dimension and the depression parameter by using image analysis method and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, respectively. From the analysis of the 3D AFM image, it is realized that all the hot-rolled steel surfaces show the self-affine fractal property. The values of the fractal dimension of the hot-rolled steels were determined by the analyses of the AFM images on the basis of both the perimeter-area method and the triangulation method. In addition, the Nyquist plots were found to be depressed from a perfect semicircle form. From the experimental findings, the changes in the values of the fractal dimension and the depression parameter with chemical composition have been discussed in terms of the change in the value of hardness of base steel.

Extract of ginger has been evaluated as a green inhibitor for the corrosion of steel in sulfide polluted NaCl solution using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) techniques. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements showed that this extract acts as a mixed type inhibitor but mainly inhibits the cathodic reaction. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with inhibitor concentration reaching to approximately 83.9% using 250 ppm of ginger. Nyquist plots show a single capacitive loop in uninhibited and inhibited solutions. From EFM the causality factors are very close to theoretical values which indicate that the measured data are of good quality. The adsorption process of the studied extract on steel surface obeys Temkin adsorption isotherm. The results obtained from the different electrochemical techniques were in good agreement which prove the validity of these tools in measurement of corrosion rate. Ginger extract has no effect on Escherichia Coli and can be applied safely on waste water treatment plants.
The anodic dissolution behavior of copper and brass in an electrolyte solution of 0.5M NaCl containing 0.5 mM $NaHCO_3$ was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The Nyquist plots of the copper impedance described a small loop in the high-frequency range and a large locus in the low-frequency range. Additionally, the features of the impedance spectrum of the brass were similar to those of the copper. This indicates that the copper-enriched layer formed on the brass surface due to the selective dissolution of the zinc from the surface. In addition, the rest potential and the anodic polarization curve for each sample were measured in order to discuss the selective dissolution of the zinc from the brass surface.
The advantages of using natural circulation (NC) as a cooling system, has prompted the worldwide development to investigate this phenomenon more than before. The interesting application of the NC in low power experimental facilities and research reactors, highlights the obligation of study in these laminar flows. The inherent oscillations of NC between hot source and cold sink in low Grashof numbers necessitates stability analysis of cooling flow with experimental or numerical schemes. For this type of analysis, numerical methods could be implemented to desired mass, momentum and energy equations as an efficient instrument for predicting the behavior of the flow field. In this work, using the explicit, implicit and Crank-Nicolson methods, the fluid flow parameters in a natural circulation experimental test loop are obtained and the sensitivity of solving approaches are discussed. In this way, at first, the steady state and transient results from explicit are obtained and compared with experimental data. The implicit and crank-Nicolson scheme is investigated in next steps and in subsequent this research is focused on the numerical aspects of instability prediction for these schemes. In the following, the assessment of the flow behavior with coarse and fine mesh sizes and time-steps has been reported and the numerical schemes convergence are compared. For more detail research, the natural circulation of fluid was modeled by ANSYS-CFX software and results for the experimental loop are shown. Finally, the stability map for rectangular closed loop was obtained with employing the Nyquist criterion.

This paper presents a compression algorithm applicable for transmitting a HPO hologram data. The proposed algorithm exploits a modulating function to compress the bandwidth of the hologram pattern, resulting in decimation due to relaxed Nyquist sampling constraints. At the receiver, the compressed data will be interpolated and compensated via being divided by the modulating function. We also present compression rate and analyze the resolution of a reconstructed image and the periodicity of harmonic interferences. Finally, we shows the validity of the proposed algorithm by simulation where a reconstructed image from undersampled data is compared with a reconstructed image obtained through decimatioin by modulating function, interpolation and compensation.

Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) is considered as recent technology for the detection cancer cells in the human digestive system. WCE sends the captured information from inside the body to a sensor on the skin surface through a wireless medium. In WCE, the design of low-power consumption devices is a challenging topic. In the Shannon-Nyquist sampling theorem, the number of samples should be at least twice the highest transmission frequency to reconstruct precise signals. The number of samples is proportional to the power consumption in wireless communication. This paper proposes compressive sensing as a method to reduce power consumption in WCE, by means of a trade-off between samples and reconstruction accuracy. The proposed scheme is validated under channel constraints, expressed as the realistic human body path loss. The results show that the proposed scheme achieves a significant reduction in WCE power consumption and achieves a faster computation time with low signal error reconstruction.
The control of the power conversion system (PCS) in a battery energy storage system has a challenge due to the existence of grid impedance. This paper studies an impedance model of an LCL-based PCS in the d-q domain. The feature of a PCS connected to a weak grid is unveiled by use of an impedance model and a generalized Nyquist criterion. It is shown that the interaction between grid impedance and the PCS destabilizes the cascaded system in certain cases. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel control method that adopts virtual resistors to overcome this issue. The improvement in the control loop leads the PCS to a more stable condition than the conventional method. Impedance measurement is implemented to verify the correctness of the theoretical analysis. Experimental results obtained from a down-scaled prototype indicate that the proposed control method can improve the performance of the PCS under a weak grid.
