The purpose of this study was to develop a role conflict scale for nurses in hospitals. The process of study was as follows. The first step was the study of selected literature on role conflict in general and to translate into Korean language the role conflict and ambiguity scale developed by House. From this process, a scale for role conflict inventory-general was made by consulting with two professors majored in educational evaluation and one professor who is an authory on educational administration. In the second step, 24 clinical nurses were asked to describe the situations having job-related role conflict. In the third step, the role conflict inventory-specific was derived from the role conflict inventory -general, and data selected from the step two. The confidence and clarity of this role conflict inventory-specific was strengthed by consulting one clinical psychologist, two professors of nursing college and ten doctoral students of nursing. With this tool being tested, the results are summarized as follows. 1. Reliability Internal consistency reliability was tested by cronbach alpha, corrected item total correlation and correlation matrix. The cronbach alpha level was .94 and one item among 37 items was below .35 and the rest items were .42 above in the corrected item total correlation. There was no negative correlation in the correlation matrix. 2. Construct validity In the construct validity test, four factors have an eigen value 1.0 over, Factor 1 represented role ambiguity, composed of 15 items with .90 reliability level. Factor 2 represented deficiency of ability and skill, composed of 11 items with .90 of reliability level. Factor 3 represented working environment, composed of 6 items with .85 of reliability level. Final factor represented deficiency of job-related collaboration, composed of 5 items with .69 reliability level. These results contribute to measuring the level of role conflict for nurses, and to the managment of the nurses' role conflict.
The purpose of this research was to evaluate retention of cognitive knowledge, psychomotor skills and self-confidence on CPR 3 months after CPR training program. The sample consisted of 39 nursing students. We provided one rescuer CPR training program for nursing college students on the basis of AHA. The questionnaires for knowledge of CPR were developed 50 items based on AHA guidelines. Self-confidence were checked by 11 items questionnaires. The accuracy of CPR skills were checked by Skillreporter CPR training manikin and by researcher's evaluation based on CPR skill checklist. The results were as follows ; 1. The majority of participants didn't have any previously experiences of CPR training (76.9%). Only 15.1% previously took the CPR training with CPR practice. 2. In terms of self-confidence of CPR. The score were increased for 2 days (p>.001) but retention of self confidence was significantly statistical decreased in 3 months after training (p<.001). 3. There was a statistically significant decrement in mean of knowledge of CPR between 2 days and 3 months after CPR training (p<.001). 4. There was a statistically significant decrement in cognitive knowledge of CPR based on CPR skills checklist(p<.001). 5. Retention scores of psychomotor skills of CPR 3 months after training were 42.10% in numbers of adequate ventilation, 52.81% in numbers of adequate chest compression (p<.001) respectively. 6. Retention of passing rate on chest compressions of CPR 3 months after training was 27% (p<.001), on ventilation was 2.63% (p>.001). The error items with statistically significant differences 3 months after CPR training were too little ventilation (74.36%) and too little chest compressions (92.31%). The results of the study suggest that we need further evaluation of course components which could improve retention of CPR for all trainees.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects that simulation-based hands-on training, the core competence of nursing students, have on the students' nunchi problem solving ability, and resilience. The results showed that taking notice, a subordinate variable of nunchi significantly increased and problem-solving ability and its subordinate variables, problem recognition, information gathering, analytical skill, diffuse thinking, decision making, planning, execution and risk taking, evaluation, and feedback significantly increased. Also, resilience and its subordinate variables, control, positivity, and social skills significantly increased. Since these results imply that simulation-based hands-on training can strengthen the core competencies of nursing students, a foundation should be provided for the development of on-site hands-on training modules.
Purpose: The Korean Triage and Acuity Scale (KTAS) is a tool used to classify the severity and urgency of emergency department (ED) patients, focusing on their symptoms. In consideration of the importance of the KTAS, a web-based learning program has emerged as a new mode of education; it enables ED triage nurses to access it anytime and anywhere, and according to their own learning abilities. This study aimed to develop a web-based KTAS learning program and evaluate its effects on self-efficacy and triage performance ability in ED nurses. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest was used. The conceptual framework was Bandura's self-efficacy theory. There were 30 participants in the experimental group and 29 in the control group. The experimental group attended an orientation and 4 sessions of a web-based KTAS learning program. The learning program lasted 280 minutes over five weeks, consisting of 40 minutes of orientation and four 60-minute sessions. Results: The scores of self-efficacy, triage performance ability in KTAS level, and chief complaints significantly increased in the experimental group compared to the control group. In addition, the numbers of under-triage in KTAS significantly decreased in the experimental group in comparison to the control group. Conclusion: The results suggest that the learning program was effective in improving ED nurses' level of self-efficacy and triage performance ability (KTAS level and KTAS chief complaint). Accordingly, the web-based KTAS learning program can be applied as an education intervention to improve ED nurses' triage skill.

This study was done to compare cultural competence(CC) and psychological well-being(PWB) in nursing students(NS) and non-nursing students(NNS). Participants were 251 NS and NNS at college in S and I city. Mean score(range:1~5) of CC in NS was 3.35 and NNS, 3.23 and PWB in NS was 3.53 and NNS, 3.37. Thus, mean score of CC and PWB of two group were above the average and NS significantly higher than NNS. Significant relationship were in NS CC, cultural awareness, knowledge, sensitivity, skill and experience, PWB, self-acceptance, environmental mastery, positive relations with others, autonomy, purpose in life, personal growth. Therefore, it is necessary to develop cultural competencies and to provide nursing considering cultural diversity in PWB through extracurricular activities, lectures related to multiple cultures and the placement of multi-cultural subjects in the curriculum.
This study aimed to investigate the nursing needs of hospitalized children's mothers and the quality of care in a pediatric unit. A secondary data analysis was conducted using mixed methods design. The qualitative data from 8 mothers of hospitalized children gathered through an in-depth interview were analyzed to investigate nursing needs. The quantitative data from 194 hospitalized children's mothers were analyzed to examine the quality of care in the pediatric unit using IBM SPSS 24.0. The results of qualitative research were categorized into 4 themes: dignity and respect, explanation, participation and collaboration, and nursing practice. The importance of quality of care, performance, and quality index were $8.76{\pm}1.19$ (0~10), $.30{\pm}.19$ (0~1), and $7.52{\pm}1.62$ (0~10), respectively. The quality of care scores differed according to the stage of development of the children (F=2.75, p=.044), and the score of the quality index of nursing skill varied according to the age of the mother (t=-2.08, p=.039). The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of strategies to improve the quality of nursing care for children.

The purpose of this study is to compare the effects on nursing students' knowledge, performance confidence, and skills from combined virtual IV simulator and mannequin arm IV cannulation training against training with a mannequin arm only. A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest experimental study was carried out. Ninety-three sophomore nursing students who were just beginning their fundamental skills training were recruited. Participants were divided into two groups (46 for the combined group and 47 for the mannequin-only group). Data were collected from March 18-29. For the experimental group, both virtual IV simulator and mannequin-arm training were provided for 30 minutes (15 minutes each). For the control group, training for 30 minutes with a mannequin arm only was provided. After intervention, there was no statistically significant difference in the knowledge score between the two groups (F=2.52, p=.116). However, there was a significant improvement in performance confidence (t=2.14, p=.035) and nursing skills (t=5.34, p<.001) in the experimental group, compared with the control. Overall, this study provides empirical evidence that the combination of virtual IV simulator and mannequin arm training may further enhance nursing students' performance confidence and nursing skills.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the job satisfaction and quality of life of nurses in a integrated nursing care service ward (INCSW) and a general ward (GW). A total of 88 nurses working in INCSW and GW were invited and followed up for 6 months over 3 times. There was no significant difference in job satisfaction between INCSW and GW for 6 months, while there was a difference in quality of life: overall quality of life (1st p=.033, 2nd p=.030), and overall general health (1st p=.049). Comparison of two groups by period in job satisfaction, there were statistically significant differences of the item 'recognition from the organization and professional achievement' (2nd versus 3rd, p=.037) and 'interpersonal interaction with respect and recognition' (1st versus 3rd, p=.005; 2nd versus 3rd, p=.006) in the INCSW. Comparison of two groups by period in quality of life, there was a statistically significant difference of the item 'overall quality of life' (1st versus 3rd, p=.025; 2nd versus 3rd, p=.010) in the INCSW. Development of various nursing strategies (such as manpower arrangement that reflects the nursing skill levels, patient needs, job training and organizational culture before placement) can be helpful for improving nurses job satisfaction and quality of life in INCSW and GW.
Objectives: This pre-post quasi-experimental study was designed to investigate the effects of school based smoking prevention education on knowledge and attitude toward smoking, and the satisfaction of education among middle school students. Methods: The subjects included 94 middle school students in the experimental group. and 87 students in the control group. The educational content contained smoking refusal skills, which were taught through lectures and videos. Data collection was achieved using a self-reported questionnaire developed by the investigator. Data were analyzed with the SPSS 10.0 program including frequency, percentile, X2, paired t-test, and ANCOVA. Results: The results were as follows: 1. After the smoking prevention education, the smoking knowledge of the experimental group was significantly improved, whereas that of control group didn't change significantly. 2. There were no significant differences between pretest and post test attitude scores in both groups. 3. Refusal skill was the education content that provided the highest satisfaction for the subjects, and the degree of satisfaction was higher with video watching than with a lecture. Conclusion: Smoking prevention education for middle school students increased their level of smoking knowledge, but did not affect their attitudes toward smoking. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a more effective program, and to evaluate the effects of a long term education program with further studies.

Purposes: This review is designed to assess the current status of health education in Korea, to identify problems within the curriculum, and to suggest ways to improve health education in Korea. Results: Korean schools currently lack a regular standardized health education curriculum. Subjects related to health education are presently taught in other disciplines, such as physical education, home management, biology, and other related subjects. The Korean health education curriculum suffers from many significant problems, including a lack of educational goals for health education, absence of designated time for health education, a lack of continuity between contents, knowledge-oriented health education, and an overall disconnect with the needs of the students. Other problems include an exclusion of health education experts in the development of the curriculum, no designated times for health education within the regular curriculum, and a lack of health teachers in schools. Conclusion: To improve health education in schools, standard health education curriculum should be developed. Health education curriculum needs to be sequential, comprehensive, and skill-based. Health education needsto be a essential subject, health teachers need to be trained, and provided with technical support.
