  • The purpose of this study was to examine the knowledge and practice of the Clean Intermittent Self Catheterization (CIC) conducted by Spinal Cord Injury Patients (SPIC) or their significant others as an activity of daily living at their homes or working places. Forty-seven patients were participated in this study. Three questionnaires developed by researchers for this study were used to collect demographic data, knowledge and practice skill of CIC. Descriptive statistics and ANOVA were used to analyze the data. Nineteen (19) patients experienced Urinary Track Infection (UTI) during the last one years and two of them have had several times of UTI. Knowledge level of the participant was not high enough to perform correct CIC. Some evidences indicated that the knowledge did not apply to their practice. Systematic analysis and development of educational content based on this study results was recommended and the systematic instructional design before actual patient education was strongly recommended.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of lifestyle modifications on the constipation relief, the time required to see the effects, and the effective lifestyles for constipation in older adults admitted to a geriatric hospital. Methods: Nonequivalent control group pre-post test design was used. The subjects consisted of 25 elderly in the control group and 23 in the experimental group. Constipation was measured with symptoms of constipation, number of bowel movement and use of laxatives. Life style modification consisted of drinking water before breakfast, having a breakfast, scheduled toileting after breakfast and walking everyday for 3 weeks. Results: Symptoms of constipation (t=2.23, p=.030) and number of bowel movement per week (t=-2.55, p=.014) were significantly different between two groups after 3 weeks. Drinking water, scheduled toileting and walking might contribute to the results. Conclusion: Lifestyle modification was effective on constipation in older adults admitted to a geriatric hospital. However, the effects were produced after 3 weeks. Nevertheless, it is recommended that nurses continuously encourage older adults for drinking water, regular trying for bowel movement and walking to relieve constipation, since the lifestyle modification does not need any special education and skill.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effect of multidimensional program on cognition, physical function and depression among institutionalized elderly and the relationship between study variables and resident's characteristics and health related variables. Method: This study involved a one group pre and post test, comparison of variables over a 12 month period. To investigate this research question, data of 114 residents of a nursing home were analyzed. Results: There was statistically significant difference in MMSE-K (t=-2.63, p=.010), ADL (t=-2.85, p=.005), and depression (t=4.66, p=.000) before and after program participation. Conclusion: These results indicate that, for a year their regular involvement in a broad spectrum of multidimensional program activities can improve in cognitive, physical and emotional perspectives, but the level of IADL decreased significantly (t=-6.72, p=.000). Further testing is required with the control group, to compare with community resident elders in order to explore the effects on social skill of elderly.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between psychosocial working conditions and psychological well-being depending on the gender among Korean interactive service workers. Methods: This study was a secondary analysis of the data extracted from the 2011 Korean Working Conditions Survey. For the present analysis, 15,669 workers who interact with others at work were selected. Based on the existing literature, a set of variables was chosen from the KWCS. Psychological well-being was measured using the WHO-5 well-being index. Results: The prevalence of poor psychological well-being was significantly higher among men (43.1%) than women (39.6%). Women were more likely to be exposed to demands for hiding emotions, bullying, and discrimination, whereas men were more likely to be exposed to psychological job demands, cognitive demands, demands for responsibility, role conflict and long working hours. Most factors were associated with poor well-being among women and men except demands for hiding emotions, skill discretion and development, physical violence, and sexual harassment. Conclusion: Based on these results, some practical suggestions are offered to help interactive service workers adjust to their duties.

Methods: Based on the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA), a systematic search was conducted using four core electronic databases from October 28, 2018 to November 14, 2018. The topics of breastfeeding individual visit program were analyzed using descriptive analysis and the effects of intervention were meta-analyzed using the Review Manager 5.3 software. Results: A total of 13 studies were included in the review and 12 were included for meta-analysis. Breastfeeding individual visit programs were found to be more effective in breastfeeding rates, attitude, skill and self-efficacy compared to group education or non-education. Conclusion: Effective breastfeeding education can help mothers to start and sustain breastfeeding. Breastfeeding individual visits programs that are more effective than group education to maintain breastfeeding for pregnant women should be developed and applied.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the emergency response ability to develop an education program to strengthen the emergency response ability of caregivers having the highest probability of discovering emergency situations. Methods: This study is a descriptive research study conducted by 204 caregivers working in elderly care facilities and home care centers located in one area. The collected data were analyzed by independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson's correlation, and multiple linear regression using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 25.0 statistical program. Results: First aid knowledge was related to work time (F=3.52, p=.008), number of care people (F=2.58, p=.038), workplace (F=6.76, p=.001), and self-efficacy (F=3.70, p=.026), and the ability to cope with emergency situations showed a statistically significant difference in education level (F=3.58, p=.015). There was a positive correlation between self-efficacy and emergency response ability (r=.179, p<.05), and the factors affecting emergency response ability were education level (β=-.164, p=.050), workplace (β=.290, p=.023), and self-efficacy (β=.103, p=.022). Conclusion : Factors influencing the improvement of caregivers' ability to cope with emergency situations, workplace, education level, and self-efficacy were found. Thus, it is suggested to develop and apply an emergency education program to increase self-efficacy and consider the workplace and educational level.

The data were analyzed using the 𝝌2-test and the independent t-test with the SPSS 25.0 program. Results: The experimental group had higher scores and a statistically significant increase in knowledge(t=6.26, p<.001), attitude(t=5.25, p<.001), confidence(t=3.38, p<.001) and emergency coping abilities(t=8.83, p<.001) was observed in comparison to the control group. Conclusion: The smartphone app-based emergency coping education program has proven the effectiveness of education by improving the ability of caregivers to cope with emergencies, suggesting the need to expand and apply it to more caregivers. In order to maximize the learning effect, app-based educational content should be developed in more diverse areas along with follow-up research with various education contents.

Collected data were computerized and analyzed by SPSS-WIN program. The results were as follows : 1. The skills of CPR were cardiac compression 92.79 times/min, correct cardiac compression rate 90.85%, ventilation 9.93 times/min, correct ventilation rate 79.34%. 2. The mean of the accuracy of CPR skills were 2.94(SD .87). 3. When errors were analyzed, the highest item was stomach distension(51.2%) of ventilation skills and too little(70.6%) of cardiac compression skills. 4. The mean of the satisfaction of CPR training were 2.87(SD .17), the highest item of the satisfaction of CPR Training was practice. 5. We found significant statistical differences based on the accuracy and the error, non-nursing students were high in correct cardiac compression per minute(t=3.615, p=.000) and ventilation too much(t=4.292, p=.000), nursing students were high in correct ventilation rate(t=-3.885, p=.000) and cardiac compression too shallow) t=-2.842, p=.005).
