Purpose: This year 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Korean Society of Nursing Science (KSNS). This study was aimed to explore development of caring and describe the 50 years of history of KSNS within the sociocultural context of Korea regarding academic footsteps, meanings, and implications for the future. Methods: This study used a historical research methodology using a literature review and bibliometric analysis. Relevant literature was reviewed and the published abstracts in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing (JKAN) were analyzed using VOSviewer. Results: Birth control and family planning in the 1970s was the main research topic. In the 1980s, the development of nursing concepts, theories, and philosophies was the mission of KSNS to extend the disciplinary boundary. In the 1990s, the progress of KSNS to become one of the woman-dominant healthcare professionals was the mission in the given period. Expanding the frontiers of KSNS to the extent of global standards was the undertaking of the nursing scholars in the 2000s. Lastly, in the 2010s, the quality and quantity improvement of KSNS and JKAN is expected to make our future even prosperous. The map visualization of the 50 years of research accumulation showed the comparable opposition of quantitative vs. qualitative research methodologies, equation modeling, and instrument development. Conclusion: These clusters of research demonstrates the efforts to make nursing evidence by Korean nursing scholars for the last five decades. The growth in the slope of KSNS and outcomes of JKAN are to carry on to an unimaginable extent in the future.

Purpose: This study was performed to identify current characteristics of the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing and to explore a way to elevate it to an international level and to critique the overall review process so as to delineate the advanced, objective paper appraisal in this journal. Methods: Data was collected using self administered questionnaires to 75 journal reviewers belonging to the Korean academy of nursing and its division academy of nursing from August 15th to September 30th, 2006. Results: The majority of reviewers pointed out a lack of discrimination between the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing and other Journals. Among the main answers of reviewers, Creativeness(52.3%) and excellence of nursing(38%) will be critical factors to develop in order to elevate to an the journal to an international level. In specific evaluation areas, reviewers preferred a subjective critique method(60%), and the condition of the decision making process regarding paper acceptance as a combination of checklist and subjective evaluation(84%). Subjective evaluation opinions with major categories will occur in the next revised evaluation format. 76% of reviewers agreed with the current objective evaluation form. Conclusions: The journal review process should be evaluated on a regular basis to elevate the journal level and a mutual agreement of the journal's scope, range, and purpose will be necessary. As a recommendation, an attempt at various approaches in journal reviews and reviewer training should be made.
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of team-based simulation training (TBST) on patient safety confidence and nursing competency among nursing students. Methods: This study used a one group pretest-posttest design. Among the senior nursing students enrolled in an academic course in one nursing school, the convenience sample of 114 students was recruited. Participants received 15-session TBST (2 hours per session) over 8 weeks and completed the patient safety confidence and nursing competency scales, and a questionnaire of participants' responses to TBST. Data were analyzed using a descriptive statistics test, a paired t-test, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The results of this study showed that patient safety confidence and nursing competency significantly improved after TBST and there was a positive correlation between these variables. Conclusion: The findings indicate that TBST is effective for improving nursing students' patient safety confidence and nursing competency, and thus, team-based strategies can be useful to attain the goals of nursing education. Furthermore, the results of this study suggest further research to refine the relations between patient safety and nursing competency.

Purpose: This study was to examine nursing values and attitudes toward nursing professions after fundamental nursing practice education. Method: The participants were 166 first-year students. Values and professional attitude were measured. Results: Nursing values increased to 4.49(${\pm}.42$) after 1st semester and 4.64(${\pm}.35$) after 2nd semester from 4.32(${\pm}.47$) before the education(t=7.71, p= .000). Nursing professional attitude also increased to 3.95(${\pm}.49$) after 1st semester and 4.20(${\pm}.45$) after 2nd semester(t=9.1, p= .000). While voluntary applicants have showed a significant difference in nursing values since they started college education(t=3.34, p=.001), partially voluntarily applicants showed after finishing the 1st semester(t=-3.02, p=.002). Regarding nursing professional attitude of voluntary applicants, there was a significant difference between starting college education(t=2.35, p=.020) and finishing the 1st semester(t=-2.66, p= .008). Interest in fundamental nursing practice had a significant correlation with satisfaction(r=.301, p=.000) and nursing values(r=.163, p=.035). Nursing values had a significant correlation with nursing professional attitude(r=.590, p=.000). Conclusion: The fundamental nursing practice is effective in changing nursing values and nursing professional attitude in students taking the course.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify nursing importance and the performance of nursing interventions linked to five nursing diagnoses and find out core nursing interventions to each of the five nursing diagnosis. The five nursing diagnoses were Pain, Diarrhea, Constipation, Hyperthermia, and Infection: Risk for. Method: Data was collected from nurses working in four different hospitals. Data were analyzed using mean, SD, and paired t-test to compare difference between importance and performance of each intervention. Result: In general interventions related to medication, such as Medication Administration: IV, Medication Administration: IM, Medication Administration: Oral, Medication Management were all considered highly important and performed very often regardless of nursing diagnoses. And the level of importance was higher than the performance in most of all the interventions linked to five nursing diagnoses. Only two interventions, Medication Administration and Intravenous (IV) insertion had higher level of performance than importance in the diagnoses of Pain and Diarrhea respectively. Conclusion: Using the above findings, we now know which intervention should be performed more frequently to solve nursing problems and which interventions are more critically important to nursing diagnosis. This information can be very helpful for developing nursing information system.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is developing the nursing information system which contains the core elements of nursing practice, the Nursing Minimum Data Set (NMDS) that should be collected and documented all the settings in which nursing care is provided. Method: The program was developed under the hospital information system by TCP/IP protocol and used NANDA, Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC), and Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) to fill out the elements of NMDS. The Oracle was used as DBMS under the Windows 98 environment and Power Builder 5.0 was used as a program language. Results: This study developed linkage among the NANDA-NOC-NIC to facilitate choosing correct nursing diagnosis, interventions, and outcomes and stimulate nurses' critical thinking. Also the system developed includes nursing care sensitive patient outcomes, so nurses can actively involve in nursing effectiveness research by analyzing the data stored in the database or by making relational databases with other health care related databases. Conclusion: The program developed in this study ultimately can be used for the nursing research, policy development, reimbursement of nursing care, and calculating staffing and nursing skill mix by providing tool to describe and organize nursing practice and measure the nursing care effectiveness.
Nursing centers are nurse-managed organizations that give the client direct access to professional nursing services. Academic nursing centers are faculty-created and -organized nursing centers integrated into nursing school or cooperated with community nursing center. Academic nursing centers are needed for providing services to the forgotten or underserved populations in the community, providing learning opportunities for nursing students and practice opportunities for faculties. The intent of this study is to identify the elements needed in developing process and operations of acedemic nursing center for elderlies and the disabled, and to present the desired model for academic nursing center. The processes of my study were : 1) The articles of the academic nursing centers in U. S. were reviewed and analysed. 2) The academic nursing center for elderlies and the disabled was developed and operated in my paper. 3) Desired model for academic nursing center was presented in my paper. The followings are the results of my study: 1. Elements needed in developing process of academic nursing center were philosophy and goals, the community support, assessment of the validity of the service and health needs, identification of the service contents, roles and responsibilities, communication lines, finances for facilities and operations, cooperation with resources, and developing record system. 2. Elements needed in operations of academic nursing center were the structural organizations, realization of the above philosophy and goals, development of policy and nursing standards, faculty participation, continuity of services, and financial solutions. 3. The desired model was presented according to the process and operations.
For the purpose of integrating nursing diagnosis into the nursing curriculum, a descriptive survey research was done using the inductive method with questionnaires and a literature review. Research subjects included nurse educators, textbooks of adult nursing published in Korea, and the course outline for adult nursing used in one college of nursing. The Results show that there was common agreement on 39 nursing diagnosis which should be in cluded in the adult nursing curriculum, textbooks of adult nursing, and patient care on the medical-surgical units. The two existing nursing diagnosis classification systems(NANDA and Gordon's Human Response Patterns) show different basic frameworks and difficulties were discovered in integration of nursing diagnosis into the curriculum. To develop a conceptual framework for a nursing diagnosis classification system, diagnosis were classified into three categories ; health promotion, high risk problem, and actual problem on the basis of the framework used in adult nursing textbooks and Gordon's 11 Functional Health Patterns. Subconcepts for actual problems were classified as ; activity and rest, nutrition and elimination, perception and coordination, stress and coping. Progress in this study supports further development of a conceptual framework of nursing based on a nursing diagnosis classification system, from which improvement in nursing education and clinical practice can be expected.
