This paper describes a diagnostic technique of power transformers by on-line detection of ultrasonic signals. A trend of partial discharge variation in a real transformer was estimated by counting the number of ultrasonic signals until insulation paper in the point-to-plane electrode is punctured. The number of electrical signals is closely related to the ultrasonic signals generated by partial discharge. The trend of the ultrasonic signal number could easily be distinguished by taking moving average. The insulation failure due to partial discharge in transformers can be predicted based on the trend analysis of ultrasonic signal number caused by partial discharge. (author). 14 refs., 10 figs.
This paper proposes a new global positioning system (GPS) receiver algorithm to improve the positioning accuracy of a transporter using fault detection and isolation techniques from satellite signals. To improve the positioning accuracy, several factors including a feasible number of satellite signals, SNR, NAV Measurement Quality Indicator (mesQI), and Doppler, among others, have been utilized in the proposed algorithm. To increase the number of feasible satellite signals, an erroneous satellite signal has been replaced by the previous one. In conventional approaches, received GPS signals are analyzed and directly determined to be contaminated or not. The only clean signals are utilized for identifying the current location. This fault detection and isolation (FDI) feasibility test is popular for commercial GPS receivers. In the urban environment, especially near a building, the feasible number of satellite signals becomes insufficient to position the transporter. To overcome this problem, satellite signals are efficiently selected and recovered. Additionally, using the proposed GPS receiver algorithm, a feasible number of satellite signals can be increased, thereby improving the positional accuracy. Real world experiments using a transporter that carries blocks in a shipyard have demonstrated the superiority of the proposed algorithm compared to conventional approaches.
This paper describes a diagnosis of power transformers by on-line detection of ultrasonic signals. Partial discharge in power transformer generates ultrasonic signals. The trend of the ultrasonic signal number can be measured when partial discharge is generated in HV Winding. The trend of the ultrasonic signal number could easily be distinguished by taking moving average. The insulation failure due to partial discharge in transformers can be predicted based in the trend analysis of the number of ultrasonic signals caused by partial discharge.
In modern wireless communication systems including beamformers or location-based services (LBS), which employ multiple antenna elements, estimating the number of signals is essential for accurately determining the quality of the communication service. Representative signal number estimation algorithms including the Akaike information criterion (AIC) and minimum description length (MDL) algorithms, which are information theoretical criterion models, determine the number of signals based on a reference value that minimizes each criterion. In general, increasing the number of elements mounted onto the array antenna enhances the performance of estimating the number of signals; however, it increases the computational complexity of the estimation algorithm. In addition, various configurations of array antennas for the increased number of antenna elements should be considered to efficiently utilize them in a limited location. In this paper, we introduce an efficient signal number estimation algorithm based on the beamspace based AIC and MDL techniques that reduce the computational complexity by reducing the dimension of a uniform circular array antenna. Since this algorithm is based on a uniform circular array antenna, it presents the advantages of a circular array antenna. The performance of the proposed signal number estimation algorithm is evaluated through computer simulation examples.
In this paper, using AE (Acoustic Emission) sensor the electrical and emitted-sound signals are measured by treeing breakdown in the epoxy resin, and the corresponding frequency spectrum of the AE signals are analyzed. We also examined the relationship between partial discharge magnitude and pulse number of AE signals to diagnose the deterioration of the electrical insulation due to treeing breakdown. From these results, a frequency band of AE signals through treeing breakdown was set to about 230 [kHz], and it appeared that pulse number of AE signal was proportional to partial discharge magnitude.

In this paper, we propose the beamforming algorithm for the performance improvement of MIMO MC-CDMA system. The proposed multibeamforming of MIMO MC-CDMA structure having the same number of beamformer as the number of transmit antenna is derived by calculating the error signals between the coded pilot symbols and the corresponding received signals from the multiple transmitters of the desired user in the frequency domain, transforming the frequency-domain error signals into time-domain error signals, and updating the weights of the multibeamformer in the time-domain in the direction minimizing the mean squared error (MSE). The proposed approach can track each direction of arrival (DOA) of the signals from multi-antennas of a desired user. The performance improvement is investigated through computer simulation by applying the proposed approach to MIMO MC-CDMA system in a multipath fading channel with multiusers.

PURPOSES : This study aimed to analyze the impact the operation of pre-signals at 4-leg signalized intersections and present primary environmental factors of roads that need to be considered in the installation of pre-signals. METHODS : Shift of proportions safety effectiveness evaluation method which assesses shifts in proportions of target collision types to determine safety effectiveness was applied to analyze traffic crash by types. Also, Empirical Bayes before/after safety effectiveness evaluation method was adapted to analyze the impact pre-signal installation. Negative binomial regression was conducted to determine SPF(safety performance function). RESULTS : Pre-signals are effective in reducing the number of head on, right angle and sideswipe collisions and both the total number of personal injury crashes and severe crashes. Also, it is deemed that each factor used as an independent variable for the SPF model has strong correlation with the total number of personal injury crashes and severe crashes, and impacts general traffic crashes as a whole. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests the following should be considered in pre-signal installation on intersections. 1) U-turns allowed in the front and rear 2) A high number of roads that connect to the intersection 3) Many right-turn traffic flows 4) Crosswalks installed in the front and rear 5) Insufficient left-turn lanes compared to left-turn traffic flows or no left-turn-only lane.
대표적인 신호 개수 추정 알고리즘으로 AIC(: Akaike Information Criterion)와 MDL(: Minimum Description Length) 알고리즘이 있는데, 이들 알고리즘은 각 기준이 최소화되는 값을 찾아 신호의 개수를 추정한다.
