  • Polyethylene terephthalate(PET) is a well known commercial polymer widely available as fibre and as a major polymer with diverse applications. In this experiment, for the modification of PET, the pentanediol isomers, 1,5-pentanediol(1,5-PD) and neopentyl glycol(NPG), were introduced as third monomers. Crystallization rate decreased by the added NPG of PET modified by NPG units. In the case of PET modified by 1,5-PD, crystallization rate had been slightly increased at all temperatures until the 1,5-PD was added about 10 mol%. The decreased crystallization rate is thought to be due to branched from methyl group of neopentyl, which greatly retards the crystallization by growing onto the crystal surface of the diffused polymer chain.

  • This study was conducted to compare the physicochemical and sensory properties of yogurt added with nanopowdered ginseng (NPG) and powdered ginseng (PG) of different concentrations (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7%) (w/v) during the storage at $7^{\circ}C$ for 20 d. The pH and viscosity values of yogurt added NPG or PG decreased during the storage. The pH values of the yogurt samples were ranged from 4.0 to 4.6 as a reflective of the fresh state. Viscosity values of yogurt with NPG at lower concentrations 0.1 and 0.3% (w/v) showed higher values during increased storage time. DPPH radical scavenging activity was significantly higher in the NPG-added yogurt than in the PG during the storage period (p<0.05). The lactic acid bacteria (LAB) counts ranged from $3.0{\times}10^9$ to $1.3{\times}10^9$ and $2.2{\times}10^9$ to $1.1{\times}10^9CFU/mL$ in 0.3% NPG and PG-added yogurts, respectively. Increased storage period showed decrease in LAB counts irrespective of the type of ginseng powder and storage period. In sensory test, 0.1 and 0.3% NPG-added yogurt showed similar results to control in yellowness, viscosity, and bitterness. Based on the data obtained from the present study, it was concluded that the concentrations 0.1 and 0.3% (w/v) of NPG could be used to produce NPG-added yogurt without significant adverse effects on physicochemical and sensory properties, and enhance functional value of yogurt.

  • The effects of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) were evaluated on the generation of multiply charged ions of cytochrome c in a 2-nitrophloroglucinol (2-NPG) matrix in high-vacuum, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). The presence of 1% TFA in the 2-NPG matrix solution was more effective in generating multiply charged protein ions than matrix solutions containing 0.1% or 0% TFA. Regarding the matrix itself, with 1% TFA, 2-NPG was significantly more effective in generating multiply charged ions than 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (2,5-DHB). The maximum charge state of cytochrome c was +8 when using a 2-NPG matrix containing 1% TFA.

  • A plasmid pNPG contains a genomic DNA complementing npgA1 which is located on the left arm of linkage group I. It transformed Aspergillus nidulans at a high frequency. No abortive transformants were observed and the $Trp^+$ transformants were all $Npg^+$. The 10.4 kb Psti fragment of the genomic DNA was subcloned into pILJ16, which increased the transformation efficiency by more than 200-folds. The transformants were mitotically unstable and yielded $Arg^-$ conidia at the frequency of more than 80%. An additional gene cloned into the plasmid containing the fragment was always lost with $argB^+$ marker. These characteristics strongly indicate the possibility that the plasmids autonomously replicate. The full activity of enhanced transformation was retained on the 4.9 kb EcoRI-HaeIII fragment. The DNA segment was similar to AMA1 rather than ANS1 in function and designated AMA2.

  • A public management paradigm matters for public enterprises as it has a direct impact on their business management and the performance evaluation on public institutions by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. This research reviews key theories about public management that has attracted attention since the 1980s: New Public Management (NPM), New Public Governance (NPG), and New Public Service (NPS). These paradigms represent their unique features in terms of efficiency, networks, and public service, and have their own merits and shortcomings. This research asserts that more integrated and multi-dimensional approaches to the public management theories are needed to effectively cope with rapidly changing environments for public enterprises.

  • The null pigmentation mutant (npgA1) of Aspergillus nidulans was previously characterized by its production of no pigment at any stage of its life cycle, its reduction in hyphal branching, and its delay in the asexual spore development. The chemical composition of the cell wall was also altered in npgA1 mutants that became more sensitive to Novozyme 234$\^$TM/, which is possibly due to a structural defect in the cell wall. To investigate the effects of the cell wall structure on these pleiomorphic phenomena, we examined the ultrastructure of the cell wall in the npgA1 mutant (WX17). Scanning electron micrographs (SEM) showed that after being cultured for six days, the outermost layer of the conidial wall of WX17 peeled off. Although this phenotype suggested that the cell wall structure in WX17 may be modified, examination using TEM of the fine structure of cross-sectioned hyphal wall of WX17 did not show any differences from that of FGSC4. However, staining for carbohydrates of wall layers showed that the electron-translucent layer of the cell wall was missing in WX17. In addition, the outermost layer H1 of the hyphal wall was also absent in WX17. The ultrastructural observation and cytochemical analysis of cell walls suggested that the pigmentation defect in WX17 may be attributed to the lack of a layer in the cell wall.

  • Graphene is an attractive material for various device applications due to great electrical properties and chemical properties. However, lack of band gap is significant hurdle of graphene for future electrical device applications. In the past few years, several methods have been attempted to open and tune a band gap of graphene. For example, researchers try to fabricate graphene nanoribbon (GNR) using various templates or unzip the carbon nanotubes itself. However, these methods generate small driving currents or transconductances because of the large amount of scattering source at edge of GNRs. At 2009, Bai et al. introduced graphene nanomesh (GNM) structures which can open the band gap of large area graphene at room temperature with high current. However, this method is complex and only small area is possible. For practical applications, it needs more simple and large scale process. Herein, we introduce a photosensitive graphene device fabrication using CdSe QD coated nano-porous graphene (NPG). In our experiment, NPG was fabricated by thin film anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) film as an etching mask. First of all, we transfer the AAO on the graphene. And then, we etch the graphene using O2 reactive ion etching (RIE). Finally, we fabricate graphene device thorough photolithography process. We can control the length of NPG neckwidth from AAO pore widening time and RIE etching time. And we can increase size of NPG as large as 2 $cm^2$. Thin CdSe QD layer was deposited by spin coatingprocess. We carried out NPG structure by using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). And device measurements were done by Keithley 4200 SCS with 532 nm laser beam (5 mW) irradiation.

  • Data from a comparative slaughter experiment with two hundreds of Korean native (Hanwoo) beef steers were utilized to determine net energy and protein requirements for growth (NEg and NPg). Eight randomly selected steers were used in the initial slaughter group of 6 month of age and the remaining steers allocated to treatments within two groups. The restricted groups were fed 1.2 to 1.5% concentrate per kg body weight (BW) in the growing period (6~12 month of age), 1.7 to 1.8% concentrate per kg BW in the early fattening period (13~18 month of age), and concentrate feed ad libitum in the late fattening period (19~30 month of age). Ad libitum groups were fed concentrate ad libitum through the whole period. Rice straw was offered ad libitum for 24 month of two feeding systems. The steers were slaughtered when animals reached every 2 month from 8 to 30 month of age. For all body composition determinations, whole empty body components were weighed, taken each proportional subsample was ground for chemical analysis. Equations developed with the pooled data to predicted NEg and NPg were similar to the equations of Japanese Feeding Standard for Beef Cattle (2000). First equations were developed to predicted NEg; NEg = 0.05332×LBW0.75×DG for restricted treatment and NEg = 0.04912×LBW0.75×DG for ad libitum treatment. Second equations were developed to predicted NPg; NPg = DG × (224.7-0.251×LBW) for restricted treatment and NPg=DG×(210.1-0.214×LBW) for ad libitum treatment.
