Table of the empirical quantiles for the well known Shapiro-Francia W' goodness of fit statistic is produced which is more accurate than the existing ones. Prediction equation for the quantiles of W' statistic for sample sizes 30 or more we developed. The process of computing the expected values for the standard normal variate is discussed. This work is intended to make the Shapiro-Francia W' statistic more accessible to the practitioner.

In case of pn control chart often used in mass production system of plant industry and so on, we could evaluate it's performance by the approximation to normal distribution. It has many differences according to sample sizes and defective fraction, and have disadvantage that needs much samples to use the normal distribution approximation. Existent control charts can not detect the cause of process something wrong because it is taking the sampling intervals of fixed length about all times from the process. Therefore, to overcome this shortcoming we use VSI(variable sampling intervals) techniques in this paper. This technique takes a long sampling interval to have the next sampling point if the sample point is in stable state, and if the sample point is near control lines, it takes short sampling interval because the probability to escape control limit is high. To analyze performance of pn control charts that have existent fixed sampling intervals(FSI) and that use VSI technique, we compare ATS of two charts, and analyze the performance of each control chart by the sample sizes, process fraction defective and control limits that Ryan and Schwertman had proposed.
In this study. the author proposes a nonhierarchical clustering method. called the "Double K-Means Clustering", which performs clustering of multivariate observations with the following algorithm: Step I: Carry out the ordinary K-means clmitering and obtain k temporary clusters with sizes $n_1$,... , $n_k$, centroids $c_$1,..., $c_k$ and pooled covariance matrix S. $\bullet$ Step II-I: Allocate the observation x, to the cluster F if it satisfies ..... where N is the total number of observations, for -i = 1, . ,N. $\bullet$ Step II-2: Update cluster sizes $n_1$,... , $n_k$, centroids $c_$1,..., $c_k$ and pooled covariance matrix S. $\bullet$ Step II-3: Repeat Steps II-I and II-2 until the change becomes negligible. The double K-means clustering is nearly "optimal" under the mixture of k multivariate normal distributions with the common covariance matrix. Also, it is nearly affine invariant, with the data-analytic implication that variable standardizations are not that required. The method is numerically demonstrated on Fisher's iris data.
A group of digital human models with various sizes which properly represents a population under consideration is needed in the design process of an ergonomic product in virtual environment. The present study proposes a two-step method which produces a representative group of human models in terms of stature and weight. The proposed method first generates a designated number of pairs of stature and weight within an accommodation range from the bivariate normal distribution of stature and weight of the target population. Then, from each pair of stature and weight, the method determines the sizes of body segments by using 'hierarchical' regression models and corresponding prediction distributions of individual values. The suggested method was applied to the 1988 US Army anthropometric survey data and implemented to a web-based system which generates a representative group of human models for the following parameters: nationality, gender, accommodation percentage, and number of human models.
This study conducted a survey to compare the size of ready-made clothes for different body shapes and body sizes, and to discover the differences in satisfaction with the size of ready-made clothes. The subjects were women in their 208 and 308 from Busan and Gyeongnam. The women were classified into groups: normal weight, overweight, and obese, using the Body Mass Index (BMI). The comparison of the body size showed a significant difference among the shapes; the average BMI in overweight women was 24.2 while that of obese women was 27.6. For the clothing size for each body shape, obese women most often wore size 77 and size 88, regardless of the sizes of upper and lower garments. The size consistency of upper and lower garments was the lowest in obese women. However, in most of the shapes, women tended to choose larger-sizes for lower garments than for upper ones. The more obese the subject, the less inclined they were to wear garments for their real body size. Satisfaction with the clothing size was significantly different between body shapes; the more obese, the lower the level of satisfaction with the size. As well, satisfaction with the fit of clothing at certain parts was shown to be low especially in the bust measurement, shoulder width, upper garment length, crotch length, and thigh circumference. When surveyed about the use of alterations for different body shapes, the results were that over 65% of subjects did not alter upper garments regardless of their body shape. Comparatively, 68% or above of all body shapes did do alterations to lower garments for example, the length of pants or skirts.
This study was performed to investigate body image perceptions of women about themselves and their preschool children and also to investigate the relationship between these perceptions. Subjects were 545 women and their children (279 boys and 268 girls) residing in Daejeon city. $67.7\%$ of women were classified as normal group, $18.6\%$ as overweight group, and $13.8\%$ as underweight group by BMI. $68.5\%\;and\;78.7\%$ of their boys and girls, respectively, were classified as normal group, $22.4\%\;and\;16.4\%$ as overweight group, $9.1\%\;and\;4.9\%$ as underweight group by WLI. Women made relatively accurate judgments on their current body sizes and selected their body images as the most desirable one. But they preferred plumper figures for their children and failed to perceive their overweight children as overweight. While $74.7\%$ of women wished to be thinner, $81.1\%$ of them wished their children to be fatter. Women spending less then 100 thousand won and more than 500 thousand won as monthly food expenses and having only one child perceived their children's current body sizes the lowest and the highest, respectively. Women wished boys to be fatter than girls. Their current body sizes were correlated positively with the children's current body size (p < .01), and their healthiest, attractive, and 'wish' figures were correlated positively with children's current, healthiest, attractive, and 'wish' figures (p < .05- p < .01). Body size dissatisfaction (wish to be thinner) and BMI of women were correlated negatively with children's healthiest and attractive figures (p < .01). These findings suggest that in order to correct the women's body image misperceptions and to prevent childhood obesity, mother's perception about healthy body images for themselves and their children need to be included in nutrition education. Also, it is necessary to assist mothers to understand the relationship of body size and weight status with the risk of chronic disease which might appear later in their children's life. In the order to grasp their physical characteristics stemming from activity amount, this paper has divided elderly women into the following group ; those with high activity in the past, those with low activity in the present, those with high activity in the present and those with low activity in the present. The analyses of the body measurements and the pie chart, and the classification of back shapes by taking photographs have led to the following results. 1. The items of depth and girth among the body measurements were significant in the past and the present activity. Those with high activity in the past had smaller sizes in depth and girth than those with low activity. 2. From the pie chart, it was shown that those with high activity in the past had smaller sizes in every index as well as in girth than those with low activity in the past. Both those with low activity in the present and those with medium activity in the present had somewhat large sizes in waist girth, bust girth, hip girth and abdominal girth and in the indices of these items. 3. The classification of back shapes by taking photograpes has shown that those with high activity in the past had the less bent body type-42 percent of Type A and 6.5 percent of Type D. Among those with medium activity in the present, Type A was most outstanding and Type C and Type D were less, This fact shows that those with medium activity in the present keep the most normal body type. This proves that the medium activity of elderly women is desirable for keeping the normal body type.
This study aimed to investigate whether women's wear brands' sizing systems for pants item are reflecting body size and shape of their target age customers. This study classified 17 women's wear brands into three target age groups (20-30s, 30-40s, and 40-50s) and surveyed their body sizing systems of pants item. Distribution of waist circumference and hip circumference of brands' sizing systems were compared with size distribution of women in the 7th Size Korea data. The sizing systems of brands targeting 20-30s covered 28.3% and those of brands targeting 40-50s covered 27.3%, while those of brands targeting 30-40s covers 46.6%. Regarding the body types, 80% of 20-30s target brands reflected normal type which is the average body type. However, all 40-50s target brands reflected normal type while 57.8% of women aged 40-50s had large waist shape. The 30-40s target brands reflected body types the best among target age groups since the body shape distribution of the brands was similar to that of 30-40 year old woman in Size Korea. For each age group, 6 sizes with 25.2~27.8% coverage rates were proposed. The 70-91, 73-91, 73-94 sizes were overlapped between the 20-30s and the 30-40s groups. The 76-91, 76-94, 79-94 sizes were overlapped between the 30-40s and 40-50s groups. Pants size has been found to increase in waist circumference compared to hip circumference as age increased.
The purpose of this study was to examine the indirect estimation of the lumbar intervertebral disc size by two anthropometric methods(Colombini's method and Turk and Celan's method), in order to compare these indirect methods with the direct analysis by computed tomography(CT). The wrist, elbow, knee and ankle joint(right side) diameters were measured in 52 normal volunteers and intervertebral disc sizes were measured in 50 normal subjects by CT. Then the intervertebral disc sizes were calculated using two anthropometric formula. The data were analysed with ANOVA to differentiation between indirect and direct estimation of the lumbar intervertebral disc sizes. This study shows that male subjects have significantly larger L4-5 and L5-S1 intervertebral disc sizes than female subjects. In addition, disc sizes calculated by Colombini's formula were significantly larger than Turk & Celan's formula but there was no significant differences in the compared Turk & Celan's estimation with CT values. The indirect estimation of the intervertebral disc size by Turk & Celan's formula can be considered as a clinically useful method. However, further study should be conducted to compare anthropometric values according to age.
We consider sample-size determination problem motivated by comparative clinical trials where patient outcomes are characterized by a bivariate outcome of efficacy and safety. Thall and Cheng (1999) presented a sample size methodology for the case of bivariate binary outcomes. We propose a bivariate Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney(WMW) statistics for sample-size determination for binary outcomes, and this nonparametric method can be equally used to determine sample sizes of ordinal outcomes. The two methods of sample size determination rely on the same testing strategy for the target parameters but differs in the test statistics, an asymptotic bivariate normal statistic of the transformed proportions in Thall and Cheng (1999) and nonparametric bivariate WMW statistic in the other method. Sample sizes are calculated for the two experimental oncology trials, described in Thall and Cheng (1999), and for the first trial example the sample sizes of a bivariate WMW statistic are smaller than those of Thall and Cheng (1999), while for the second trial example the reverse is true.
