  • In this theses, the procedure for finding the equivalent immittance of an n-line coupled structures is presented in terms of the normal mode parameters of the n-line coupled system. The above generalized equations can be applied to the various Coupled structures including directional couplers, DC blocks, bandpass/band elimination filters, and various other uniformly coupled filters. The design equations are based on a simplified TEM(Quasi TEM) mode. The obtained results and the definition of the scattering parameters for a general coupled line four port with arbitrary terminations are used to present the procedure to determine the optimum physical dimensions matching the given load impedances connected to input, output port. Multiple coupled rnicrostrip two-port with three lines circuit designed shows little discrepancy between the conventional method and this one. Four port with five lines were fabricated on teflon substrate($e$r=2.55) with its thickness h=l.588mm designed at the center frequency, 4 GHz. Their measured results are fairly close to the ones by computation.

  • For the analysis of a vibrating two dimensional structure such as the simply supported rectangular plate, Spectral Finite Element Method (SFEM) has been studied. Under the condition that two parallel edges are simply supported at least and the other two edges can be arbitrary, Spectral Finite Element has been developed. Using this element SFEM is applied to the vibrating rectangular plate which all edges are simply supported, and obtain the frequency response function in frequency domain and the dynamic response in time domain. To evaluate these results normal mode method and finite element method (FEM) are also accomplished and compared. It is seen that SFEM is more powerful analysis tool than FEM in high frequency range.

  • Conventional categorical data imputation techniques, such as mode imputation, often encounter issues related to overestimation. If the variable has too many categories, multinomial logistic regression imputation method may be impossible due to computational limitations. To rectify these limitations, we propose a two-stage imputation method. During the first stage, we utilize the Boruta variable selection method on the complete dataset to identify significant variables for the target categorical variable. Then, in the second stage, we use the important variables for the target categorical variable for logistic regression to impute missing data in binary variables, polytomous regression to impute missing data in categorical variables, and predictive mean matching to impute missing data in quantitative variables. Through analysis of both asymmetric and non-normal simulated and real data, we demonstrate that the two-stage imputation method outperforms imputation methods lacking variable selection, as evidenced by accuracy measures. During the analysis of real survey data, we also demonstrate that our suggested two-stage imputation method surpasses the current imputation approach in terms of accuracy.

  • In this paper, a new logic transformation method to consider both low power consumption and high testability is proposed. We search the CFF(Compact Fanout Free) that has low probability of being observable at the primary outputs. Under the condition that the CFF is unobservable at all primary outputs, the switching operations in it can be removed by adding redundant connections into it. The testability of the transformed circuit generally tends to reduce. In our method, however, the inserted redundant connections operate as test points in the test mode and can improve not only the controllability but also the observability of the CFF. The transformed circuit consumes less power in the normal mode and also has higher testability in the test mode. To show the efficiency of the proposed logic transformation method, we perform some experiments on the MCNC benchmark test circuits. The results show that the power consumption of the transformed circuit is reduced by 13% maximally and the fault coverage of the transformed circuit is increased.

  • Whereas in non-symmetrical distribution manufacturing process they are not plotted relatively on the centeral line but plotted on the skew of right-hand side or left-hand side. That is to say, for the prupose of producing either upper-specification-oriented items or lower-specification-oriented items, and when we carry out tighter control so as to have them pass only its specifications, the distribution shape naturally has a non-normal distribution. In these cases, we could use either compressed control limits or variable transformed logarithm control charts. It the above mentioned methods were not available, we should use special purpose control chart-Mode control chart or Gram-Charlier control chart. These are proper methods for manufacturing process control which uses control chart method. In spite of these methods, domestic manufacturing and mining companies are utterly ignorant about these methods. That invites practical problems in their companies. To enhance this improvements, I proved the property of practical applications of control chart method by comparing and analyzing the case studies of practical application of speical purpose control chart method, and also by introducing the application methods.

  • A new cycle ergometer using a Magneto-Rheological (MR) rotary brake system has been developed for rehabilitation of hemiplegia patients to reduce uneven pedaling characteristics. For this purpose, a control method to adjust the resistance of the MR rotary brake in real time based on the magnitude of the muscular force exerted by the subject has been devised so that the mechanical resistance to the pedaling can be minimized when the affected leg was engaged for pedaling. A series of experiments were carried out with and without the engagement of this real-time control mode of MR rotary brake at different pedaling rate to find out the effect of the real-time control mode. The characteristics of the pedaling for these specific conditions were analyzed based on the variations in angular velocities of the pedal unit. The results showed that the variations in the angular velocities were decreased by 42.9% with the control mode. The asymmetry of pedaling between dominant and non-dominant leg was 19.63% in non-control mode and 1.97% in the control mode. The characteristics of electromyography(EMG) in the lower limbs were also measured. The observation showed that Integrated EMG(IEMG) reduced with the control mode. Therefore, the new bicycle system using MR brake with the real time control of mechanical resistance was found to be effective in recovering the normal pedaling pattern by reducing unbalanced pedaling characteristics caused by disparity of muscular strength between affected and unaffected leg.

  • The conventional Flow Duration Curve has limitations that it does not consider hydrologic persistence of daily discharge, that the daily discharge is greatly affected by the maximums or minimums, and that the date of occurrence and duration of a specific discharge cannot be known. In this study, we propose a Daily Mode Discharge Curve, which consists of aligning the daily discharge each year by the date of occurrence, calculating the daily mode discharge, and averaging them every 5 days. As a result of reviewing the long-term observational daily discharge data at 8 points upstream and downstream of the mainstream of the 4 major rivers in Korea, it was found that the daily discharge at all points shows hydrological persistence, and the distortion of it was alleviated by using Daily Mode Discharge Curve. We also suggest that the Daily Mode Discharge Curve is useful for utilizing reference discharge such as Drought, Low, Normal, Plentiful, and Flood Discharge.

  • This paper describes a new method of noise-canceling in an instrumentation using a pair of identical Potential Transformers (PT). This method allows us to get reliable signals without any noise, not only on the transmission line, but also on the sensors; even if we do not have a reference noise or a specific noise. In this case "any noise" means normal mode noise (NMN), under a quarter frequency of the switching. We proposed to call this method alternating noise-canceling (ANC). The accuracy of this new method has been verified by experimentations.entations.

  • This paper presents the vibration problem of the Engine Casing (E/C) "B" deck in the handymax vessel and describes a method to avoid resonance. The first ship of the series did not have any vibration issue on the "B" deck. However, resonance condition occurred when additional machine was installed to the following vessels. To understand the dynamic characteristics of the deck, the normal mode analysis and impact test have been performed. Within the normal operating range of the vessel, the $1^{st}$ natural frequency of the E/C "B" deck is close to the main engine's $6^{th}$ order. Based on these analysis, a reinforcement on the deck was suggested and it proved to be effective. Since actual impact test after the reinforcement also confirmed the resonance avoidance.

  • This paper investigates vibrational motion of a flexible beam fixed on a moving cart and carrying a moving mass. The equations of motion of the beam-mass-cart system are analysed through the unconstrained modal analysis. The exact normal mode solution used in modal analysis correspond to the eigenfrequencies for each position of the moving mass and to the ratios of the weight of the beam-mass-car system. Time solutions of normal modes are also transformed properly according to the position of the moving mass. Numerical simulations are carried out to obtain open-loop responses of the system in tracking pre-designed paths of the moving mass. The simulation results show that the model predicts the dynamic behavior of the beam-mass-cart system well. Experiments are carried out to show the validity of the proposed analytical method.
