This project examined 2, 3, and 4-year-old children (N = 34) in a university campus child care setting to assess their understanding of the graphic features they use in their emergent writing (to distinguish it from a drawing of the same referent). The graphic features present in samples of the children's work were examined and compared to the graphic features children could identify through verbal and nonverbal communication. We examined the frequencies of graphic feature identification, as well as significant differences between graphic feature usage and graphic feature identification. The most frequently used graphic features were linearity, unidirectionality, and small size of units. The most frequently identified graphic feature was conventional letter. Overall, children used significantly more graphic features than they were able to identify. Significant relationships comparing the 2-year-old group and 4-year-old group's usage and identification were also found. The findings are discussed in terms of their application to early childhood classrooms. Teachers can apply these findings when engaging children in conversations about their emergent writing; these discussions are explored as a beneficial teaching tool.
The purpose of this study was to identify the types of subjectivity on communication styles of nursing freshmen and explore their properties by using the Q Methodology. Fifty nursing freshmen of P sample classified 55 Q-statements into the normal distribution of 11 point scale. Data were collected from May to June, 2015 and analyzed by using PC-QUANL program. As a result, communication styles are identified as 'Open-interaction facilitator', 'Other-considerate listener', 'Tense-sensitive to criticism person', and 'Non-interactive observer'. Open-interaction facilitators proficiently use verbal and nonverbal expressions, openly disclosing themselves and facilitating interactions with others. Other-considerate listeners primarily consider others before themselves, with careful communication. Tense-sensitive to criticism persons are nervous, sensitive to criticism, and are distractive style, so they have difficulties in intimate interaction with others. Non-interactive observers are bystanders who observe others and feel indifferent to interactions, without any self disclosure. The result of this study will be used for developing communication educational programs for nursing freshmen.
Gesture is one of the means for non-linguistic communication which can be expressed by human characters in animations. High drawing ability and profound knowledge about gestures are both required for animators to achieve efficient gesture expressions. However, diversified profound techniques are needed to master this knowledge which makes it very difficult for common animation drawers. In this paper, characteristics for each gesture are analyzed based on Laban Movement Analysis and gesture classification by making gesture packets. This research is of notable significance in providing animators with high efficient gesture expression techniques and developing automatic gesture-generating system.
The beauty industry of today tends to gradually develope as one of the important marketing strategies along with the total fashion sector. Hair color, being one of the factors of hair style, especially builds his or her own image and even becomes the nonverbal communication method which let others know him/herself. Therefore, women's needs and expectations of hair coloring are varied. To meet these need, it is urgent to figure out, most of all, the status of customers' awareness about hair coloring. Thus, in this study, research and analysis on hair coloring were made, focusing on the women utilizing 20 beauty shops in Changwon city. And the goal that this study set is to use as the study material for the hair coloring consulting in the beauty industry and the basic data for marketing in the industry job-sites. The conclusion by the three factors(age, job, monthly income) were as follows: 1. Dandyism was on the 1st order in the reason for coloring hair regardless of age, job, and monthly income. This seems to be speaking for the change of women's awareness of coloring hair. 2. The subject of making decision upon whether she was going to color her hair or not was herself regardless of age, job, and monthly income. Among the people belong to these three factors, brown was the color in overall preference. 3. More than half of those who belong to the three factors were not aware of the hair color, but their senses and interest in the color in vogue were high. 4. In terms of the hair coloring periodic time, many people had $2{\sim}3$months, but it was possible to know that they were interested in improving their images, considering the fact that most of the salaried people had their hair dyed within a month and the people in service job over a month. 5. The acquaintance around me had the strongest effect in collecting information from the people in those three factors and mass media was the next. The results of this study, in my opinion, would help the customers have beautiful and healthy hair and make images of their own by making the hair designers develope professional knowledges and skills on the hair coloring and improve the quality of beauty services.
The purpose of this study is to explore the family as an interaction system, concentrating on the mutual influences between communication and family development; (1) how Communication patterns affect family relationships, and (2) how relationships among family members affect communication. In order to do this Galvin, Brommel used the following frame work; family is a system in which communication regulates cohesion and adaptability by a flow of message patterns through a defined network of evolving interdependent relationships. A family system consists of members, the relationships among them, the family attributes, the members attributes and an environment in which family functions. Within the framework of common cultural communication patterns, each family has the capacity to develop its own communication code based on the experiences of individual members and the collective family experience. Most of us develop our communication skills within the family context learning both the general cultural language and the specific familial communication code. Communication may be viewed as a symbolic, transactional process as the process of creating and sharing meanings. To say that communication is a process implies a continuous interaction of an indefinite large numbers of variables with a concomitant,. continuous change in the values taken by these variables. Finally the process implies change, Family functions include the primary functions of cohesion and adaptability, and supporting functions of family images, themes, boundaries, and biosocial issues. The primary functions reveal concepts integrated family interaction and supporting function, along with those of cohesion and adaptability, give shape to family life. the characteristics of developed relationships of richness, uniqueness efficiency, substitutability, pacing , openness spontaneity, and evaluation are reflected in the verbal and nonverbal behaviors with which family members negotiated a set of common meanings and develop thier own unique message system. The message system is the major element of communication process and influences both the form and the content of thier relationship and in create and share meanings. Family systems need to provide order and predictability for thier members, specifically focusing on communication rules and the networks by which messages are transmitted. Most rules emerge as a result of multiful interactions. There are basic rules and rules about rules, or metarules. Perceiving the rules of family system is very difficult because often family members don't think about the basic rules, much less the metarules. Breaking the rule may result in the creation of a new set because the system may recalibrate itself to accept more variety of behavior. Families develop communication networks to deal with the general issue. Family adaptability may be seen through the degree of flexibility in forming and reforming networks and networks become a vital part of the decision- making process and relate to the power dynamics operating within the family. Networks also play an integral part in maintaining the roles and rules operating with the family system. Thus networks and rules have mutual influence. The family -of -origin issues influence all aspects of family communication and account for many of the communication patterns, rules and networks and the role of the family -of-origin influences as a primary force for communication on behavior of newly forming systems. Each family system develops its own communication meanings. There is not one right way to communicate within a family but may be indefinitly large change of family life and communication behavior. Study on functional family communication helps to gain a better understanding of dynamics of family communication and ability of a new insight into the family.
This study intended to verify the impact of non-verbal communication of servers in the service industry on the affective path among customer's positive emotion, self-identification, and loyalty(behavioral and attitudinal loyalty). The data of 397 customers of typical fast food restaurants in Busan and Gyeongsangbuk-do area were analyzed with SPSS and AMOS, and the hypotheses were verified through structural equation model after frequency analysis, as well as exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. According to the empirical analysis, all three components of server non-verbal communication in the service industry, body language, pseudo language, and body appearance, in respective order, had positive (+) influences on the positive emotion of customers. In addition, customer emotion had a positive (+) influence on brand self-identification. Finally, self-identification had a positive (+) influence on behavior loyalty and attitudinal loyalty. This study suggested practical implications and logical implications in the course of developing emotional loyalty for restaurant companies.
CVE(Collaborative Virtual Environment) is the virtually shared area where people cannot come together physically, but wish to discuss, collaborate on, or even dispute certain matters. In CVEs, in habitants are usually represented by humanoid embodiments, generally referred to as avatars. But most current graphical CVE systems fail to reflect the natural relationship between the avatar's gesture and the conversation that is taking place. More than 65% of the information exchanged during a person to person conversation is carried on the nonverbal band. Therefore, it is expected to be beneficial to provide such communication channels in CVEs in some way. To address this issue, this study proposes a scheme to represent avatar's gestures that can support the CVE users' communication. In the first level, this study classifies the non-verbal communication forms that can be applicable to avatar gesture design. In the second level, this study categorizes the body language according to the types of interaction with verbal language. And in the third level, this study examines gestures with relevant verbal expressions according to the body parts-from head to feet. One bodily gesture can be analyzed in the description of gesture representation, the meaning of gesture and the possible expressions, which can be used in gestural situation.

This study aims at reviewing the effect of the non-verbal communication of salespersons at service encounter on customers' non-verbal communication and responses. The previous studies overlooked the correlation between salespersons' non-verbal communication and customers' non-verbal communication at service encounter, although non-verbal communication of salespersons has potentialities evoking customers' non-verbal communication and emotional responses in various ways. If it is a salesperson who a customer first encounters within a shop, the non-verbal communication of salesperson affects his/her non-verbal communication and these non-verbal communication affect his/her emotional responses, and these emotional responses affect his/her behavior. This phenomenon is based on the theory of emotional contagion, mimic, and face feedback. Therefore the non-verbal communication such as greetings, postures and eye-contact manners through the personal interactions between salespersons and customers, can be said to be an antecedent variable which affects the positive responses of customer. As a result of the study, the kinesic of salesperson's non-verbal communication was found to affect customers' non-verbal communication, and customers' non-verbal communication affect emotional responses experienced at service encounter, and customers' positive emotion affect customers' behavior responses. This result provides an opportunity which makes one turn eyes on salespersons' non-verbal communication at sales encounter both practically and scientifically, through introducing salespersons' non-verbal communication as an important factor which can enhance customers' positive responses but has been passed over by the previous studies.
This study aims to examine the differences of Humor Preferences and Uses by the distinction of sex and age. For this purpose, an experimental survey was analyzed. The major findings of this analysis could be summarized like as follows: There is few significant difference in the sex distinction, although men prefer aggressive humor more than women. But there are significant differences in the distinction of age. The teenagers prefer nonverbal humor compare to other ages, and the over forties prefer verbal humor. There are also significant differences of humor uses between age groups. The under twenties use humor more than over thirties. This study deliberates on the reason why there are significant differences of humor preferences and uses in the distinction of age. This study suggests one of the reasons which is related with face consciousness of korean.
It is the purpose of this study to determine an effective method of communication between teachers and students. This study was done by using the theory, methods and tools of transactional analysis as developed by Borne and Harris. In order to achieve this objective: First; The teacher and student communication process is to be used, noting the student's reaction when the teacher uses "Adult" and "Parent" stimulus. Second; The effectiveness of the reaction toward the "Adult" and "Parent" stimulus is to be determined with these objectives in mind. The problems of this research study are as follows; What influence on the response of the student is brought about by the method of communication used by the teacher? 1) When the teacher uses the "Parent" Stimulus method what response of the student is shown? 2) When the teacher uses the "Adult" Stimulus method what response of the student is shown? 3) What method of communication helps to promote the student′s growth? In order to determine the answers to these questions data was collected from 40 first year students at a school of nursing in Inchon. These students were divided into two groups and the unstandardized interview technique was used to interview each student for ten minutes. A tape recording was made of each interview and the nonverbal communication was recorded by process recording immediately following each interview. The recorded material obtained from the two groups was analysed and then the Borne and Harris transactional analysis method was used in analysing the writer of this thesis undertook. Hypothesis 1. When the teacher used the "Parent" stimulus the student′s response was more frequently "Child" than "Adult", the results showed a significant difference of P〈0.001. Hypothesis 2. When the teacher used the "Adult" Stimulus the student′s response was more frequently of "Adult" than "Child", the results showed a significant difference of P〈0.001, The following conclusions are drawn from this study: 1) There is an indication that the teachers use of "Parent" stimulus communication is not an effective method to increase the growth of the student. 3) Since the teachers use of "Adult" stimulus resulted in an increase in the "Adult" response of the student there is ah indication that use of an effective communication method can help the student to develop. The writer of this research paper suggests for further study the following; 1) A comparison of the differences in response to the giving of both "Adult" and "Parent" stimulus to the same Students. 2) A comparison of the differences in student response to the communication method according to the student′s grade, age, sex and level in school.
