  • This thesis is concerned with the development of useful engineering techniques to detect and analyze nonlinearities in mechanical systems. The methods developed are based on the concepts of higher order spectra, in particular the bispectrum. The study of higher order statistics has been dominated by work on the bispectrum. The bispectrum can be viewed as a decomposition of the third moment(skewness) of a signal over frequency and as such is blind to symmetric nonlinearities. Initially auto higher order spectra are studied in detail with particular attention being paid to normalization method. Traditional method based on the bicoherence are studied. Under certain conditions, notably narrow band signals, the above normalization method is shown to fail and so a new technique based on prewhitening the signal in the time domain is developed.

  • In this work, a highly linear video-speed CMOS current-mode digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is proposed. A newswitching scheme for the current cell matrix of the DAC simultaneously reduces graded and symmetrical errors to improve integral nonlinearities (INL). The proposed DAC is designed to operate at any supply voltage between 3V and 5V, and minimizes the glitch energy of analog outputs with degliching circuits developed in this work. The prototype dAC was implemented in a LG 0.8um n-well single-poly double-metal CMOS technology. Experimental results show that the differential and integral nonlinearities are less than .+-. LSB and .+-.0.8LSB respectively. The DAC dissipates 75mW at a 3V single power supply and occupies a chip area of 2.4 mm * 2.9mm.

  • An incremental Total Lagrangian Formulation is implemented for the finite element analysis of laminated composite pressure vessel with consideration of the material and geometric nonlinearities. For large displacements/large rotations due to geometric nonlinearities, the incremental equations are derived using a quadratic approximation for the increment of the reference vectors in terms of the nodal rotation increments. This approach leads to a complete tangent stiffness matrix. For material nonlinearity, the analysis is performed by using the piecewise linear method, taking account of the nonlinear shear stress-strain relation. The results of numerical tests include the large deflection behavior of the selected composite shell problem. When compared with the previous analysis, tile results are in good agreement with them. As a practical example, filament wound pressure vessel is analyzed with consideration of the geometrically and materially nonlinearity. The numerical results agree fairly well with the existing experimental results.

비선형제어계에 사용하는 제선형화신호의 해석 (Analysis of nonlinear control systems with various diher signals)

  • Some nonlinearities in feedback control systems, such as relay servo, Coulomb friction, saturating amplifier of backlash in gears cause some undesirable effects. These may be static errors, limit cycles or jump phenomena. So, linearizing method of these nonlinearities using dither signals was first suggested by Loeb. He pointed out that the addition of high frequency signal to either the input or the output of a nonlinear system would make the nonlinear performance approximate the performance of linear systems. He used high-frequency sinusoidal wave as dither signal. But, in this thesis, general method of analysis is suggested for nonlinear control systmes using various dither signals, such as noise signal of Gaussian amplitude distribution, sinusoidal dither signal and sawtooth dither signal. Also, the advantage and disadvantage of these dither signals are compared. Throughout the analysis statistical method is adopted and lastly analog computer is used for the experiment of various nonlinear systems using dither signals.

  • Dynamics of AUV has heavy nonlinearities and many unknown parameters due to its bluff shape and low cruising speed. Intelligent algorithms, therefore, are required to overcome these nonlinearities and unknown system dynamics. Several identification techniques have been suggested for the application of control of underwater vehicles during last decade. This paper applies the neural network to identification and motion control problem of AUVs. Nonlinear dynamic systems of an AUV are identified using feedforward neural network. Simulation results show that the learned neural network can generate the motion of AUV. This paper, also, suggest an adaptive control scheme up-dates the controller weights with reference model and feedforward neural network using error back propagation.

새로운 구조의 강건한 외란관측기 설계 (A Design of the New Robust Disturbance Observer)

  • This paper proposes a new disturbance observer(DOB). The purpose of the DOB is to realize the plant performing like a model in the presence of disturbances which come from external environment and inherent nonlinearities and uncertainties in the plant. It is shown that the proposed DOB compensates those disturbances, nonlinearities and uncertainties, effectively. And it is theoretically proved that the proposed DOB can be guaranteed its stability for the stable plant. Its availability is shown by applying the DOB to the stabilization platform for EOTS(Electro Optical Tracking System).

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the impact of concentrated nonlinearities, freeplays, on the aeroelastic behaviors of single- and double-folded control fins. The nonlinearities may cause limit cycle oscillation(LCO) below the linear flutter boundary. The effects of nonlinear hinges on LCO characteristics of the fins are examined as flight condition changes. Nonlinear time-domain flutter analyses are performed, using ZAERO. The results show that the aeroelastic stability boundaries of double-folded fin(DF) are higher than those of the single-folded fin(SF) and the lower hinge freeplay impact more critically on the stability than the upper hinge freeplay of the DF.

  • This paper present the nonlinear control and the Lyapunov analysis of the nonlinear electro-hydraulic system for steering control of UCT. Electro-hydraulic system itself has the high nonlinearities arisen from the nonlinear characteristics of the pressure-fluid flow in valve and friction in cylinder. These nonlinearities are unmodeled terms in the transfer function. This paper presents the system modeling, analysis of stability based on the Lyapunov function and simulation of the nonlinear hydraulic servo system.

  • It is well known that one can easily design a high-gain adaptive output feedback control for a class of nonlinear systems which satisfy a certain condition so called output feedback exponential passivity (OFEP). The designed high gain adaptive controller has simple structure and high robustness with regard to bounded disterbances and unknown order of the controlled system. However, from the viewpoint of practical application, it is important to consider a robust control scheme for controlled systems for which some of the assumptions of output feedback stabilization are not valid. In this paper, we deal with a design problem of the robust high-gain adaptive output feedback control for the OFEP nonlinear systems with uncertain nonlinearities and/or disturbances.

  • The $Calder{\acute{o}}n$-Zygmund type estimate is proved for elliptic obstacle problems in bounded non-smooth domains. The problems are related to divergence form nonlinear elliptic equation with measurable nonlinearities. Precisely, nonlinearity $a({\xi},x_1,x^{\prime})$ is assumed to be only measurable in one spatial variable $x_1$ and has locally small BMO semi-norm in the other spatial variables x', uniformly in ${\xi}$ variable. Regarding non-smooth domains, we assume that the boundaries are locally flat in the sense of Reifenberg. We also investigate global regularity in the settings of weighted Orlicz spaces for the weak solutions to the problems considered here.
