Effect of Bias Magnetic Field on Magnetoelectric Characteristics in Magnetostrictive/Piezoelectric Laminate Composites

  • The magnetoelectric (ME) characteristics for Terfenol-D/PZT laminate composite dependence on bias magnetic field is investigated. At low frequency, ME response is determined by the piezomagnetic coefficient $d_{33,m}$ and the elastic compliance $s_{33}^H$ of magnetostrictive material, $d_{33,m}$ and $s_{33}^H$ for Terfenol-D are inherently nonlinear and dependent on $H_{dc}$, leading to the influence of $H_{dc}$ on low-frequency ME voltage coefficient. At resonance, the mechanical quality factor $Q_m$ dependences on $H_{dc}$ results in the differences between the low-frequency and resonant ME voltage coefficient with $H_{dc}$. In terms of ${\Delta}E$ effect, the resonant frequency shift is derived with respect to the bias magnetic field. Considering the nonlinear effect of magnetostrictive material and $Q_m$ dependence on $H_{dc}$c, it predicts the low-frequency and resonant ME voltage coefficients as a function of the dc bias magnetic field. A good agreement between the theoretical results and experimental data is obtained and it is found that ME characteristics dependence on $H_{dc}$ are mainly influenced by the nonlinear effect of magnetostrictive material.

다공성 매질에서 비선형 흐름에 대한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study on Nonlinear Flow in Porous Medium)

  • 본 연구에서는 다공성 매질에서의 비선형 흐름에 대한 수치적 분석을 수행하였다. 적용된 수치모형은 ANSYS CFX 3차원 유동해석 모형이며, 모형의 검증은 Mayer et al. (2011)에 의해 수행된 실험결과의 적용을 통해 수행되었다. 유속과 레이놀즈수-마찰계수 관계에 대한 실험결과와 수치결과를 비교한 결과 비교적 잘 일치하였다. 검증에서 적용된 실험결과를 바탕으로 투수성 계수, 점성계수 그리고 공극율의 변화에 따른 유속과 레이놀즈수-마찰계수 관계를 분석하였으며, 각각의 경우에 대해 best curve-fitting을 통해 변화 경향을 정량적으로 분석하였다.

  • Aerodynamic torque of wind turbine is highly nonlinear due to the nonlinear interactions between wind and blade. The aerodynamic nonlinearity is represented by nonlinear power and torque coefficients which are functions of wind speed, rotational speed of rotor, and pitch angle of blade. It is essential from the viewpoint of understanding and analysis of dynamic characteristics for wind turbine to linearize the aerodynamic torque and define aerodynamic nonlinear parameters as derivatives of aerodynamic torque with respect to the three parameters. In this paper, a linearization method of the aerodynamic torque from power coefficient is presented through differentiating it by the three parameters. And steady-state values of three aerodynamic nonlinear parameters according to wind speed are obtained and their nonlinear characteristics are investigated.

Recent Review of Nonlinear Conditional Mean and Variance Modeling in Time Series

  • In this paper we review recent developments in nonlinear time series modeling on both conditional mean and conditional variance. Traditional linear model in conditional mean is referred to as ARMA(autoregressive moving average) process investigated by Box and Jenkins(1976). Nonlinear mean models such as threshold, exponential and random coefficient models are reviewed and their characteristics are explained. In terms of conditional variances, ARCH(autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity) class is considered as typical linear models. As nonlinear variants of ARCH, diverse nonlinear models appearing in recent literature including threshold ARCH, beta-ARCH and Box-Cox ARCH models are remarked. Also, a class of unified nonlinear models are considered and parameter estimation for that class is briefly discussed.

  • The nonlinear humidity distribution occurs due to the moisture diffusion when a concrete is exposed to an ambient air. These nonlinear humidity distribution induces shrinkage cracks on surfaces of the concrete. Because shrinkage cracks largely affect the durability and serviceability of concrete structures, the moisture diffusion in concrete must be investigated. The purpose of this paper is to propose a model of the moisture diffusion coefficient that governs moisture diffusion within concrete structures. To propose the model, numerical analysis were performed based on several experiments. Because the moisture diffusion coefficient is changed with aging, especially at early ages, the proposed model includes aging effect by terms of the porosity as well as the humidity of concrete.

  • Nonlinear time series prediction is derived and compared between statistic of modeling and neural network method. In particular mean squared errors of predication are obtained in generalized random coefficient model and generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic model and compared with them by neural network forecasting.

  • 본 논문에서는 충격파 형태의 폭발 하중을 받는 부재의 소성 범위를 고려한 SDOF 해석의 수정계수를 개발하였다. SDOF 해석의 수정계수는 MDOF 해석 결과 값을 비교하여 도출하였다. SDOF 해석에 영향을 미치는 매개변수로 부재의 경계조건, 폭발 하중 지속시간과 고유주기 비를 선정하였다. 수정계수는 탄성 하중-질량 변환 계수를 기준으로 산정하였다. 수정계수 곡선은 상한, 하한 매개변수 경계 사이에 있도록 타원 방정식을 이용하여 도출하였다. 서로 다른 단면과 경계조건을 가지는 예제에 수정계수를 적용한 결과 SDOF 해석의 오차율이 15%에서 3%로 감소하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 수정계수를 적용하여 SDOF 해석의 정확도를 높임에 따라 폭발 해석에 널리 활용될 수 있다.

Roof failure of shallow tunnel based on simplified stochastic medium theory

  • The failure mechanism of tunnel roof is investigated with upper bound theorem of limit analysis. The stochastic settlement and nonlinear failure criterion are considered in the present analysis. For the collapse of tunnel roof, the surface settlement is estimated by the simplified stochastic medium theory. The failure curve expressions of collapse blocks in homogeneous and in layered soils are derived, and the effects of material parameters on the potential range of failure mechanisms are discussed. The results show that the material parameters of initial cohesion, nonlinear coefficient and unit weight have significant influences on the potential range of collapse block in homogeneous media. The proportion of collapse block increases as the initial cohesion increases, while decreases as the nonlinear coefficient and the unit weight increase. The ground surface settlement increases with the tunnel radius increasing, while the possible collapse proportion decreases with increase of the tunnel radius. In layered stratum, the study is investigated to analyze the effects of material parameters of different layered media on the proportion of possible collapse block.

  • 본 논문은 헬리콥터 비선형 제어기 설계를 위한 State-Dependent Riccati Equation (SDRE) 기법을 다루었다. SDRE 제어기법은 비선형 운동방정식에 대해 선형 시스템과 같은 구조를 갖는 방정식을 필요하기 때문에 State-Dependent Coefficient (SDC) factorization 기법을 개발하여 비선형 운동방정식으로부터 이러한 구조의 방정식을 유도하였다. SDRE제어기를 온라인상에서 설계하는데 필요한 대수 Riccati 방정식의 효율적인 수치해법을 연구하였다. 본 연구에서 제안된 수치기법을 헬리콥터의 경로추종문제로 적용하였으며, 고 신뢰도의 헬리콥터 수학적 모델을 적용하여 실시간으로 SDRE 제어기를 설계할 수 있는 방안을 제안하였다.

Collapse mechanism for deep tunnel subjected to seepage force in layered soils

  • The prediction of impending collapse of deep tunnel is one of the most difficult problems. Collapse mechanism of deep tunnel in layered soils is derived using a new curved failure mechanism within the framework of upper bound theorem, and effects of seepage forces are considered. Nonlinear failure criterion is adopted in the present analysis, and the possible collapse shape of deep tunnel in the layered soils is discussed in this paper. In the layered soils, the internal energy dissipations along velocity discontinuity are calculated, and the external work rates are produced by weight, seepage forces and supporting pressure. With upper bound theorem of limit analysis, two different curve functions are proposed for the two different soil stratums. The specific shape of collapse surface is discussed, using the proposed curve functions. Effects of nonlinear coefficient, initial cohesion, pore water pressure and unit weight on potential collapse are analyzed. According to the numerical results, with the nonlinear coefficient increase, the shape of collapse block will increase. With initial cohesion of the upper soil increase, the shape of failure block will be flat, and with the lower soil improving, the size of collapsing will be large. Furthermore, the shape of collapsing will decrease with the unit weight decrease.
