A new control technique which generates high-quality sinusoidal output voltage from a single-phase resonant do link inverter suitable for the UPS systems is presented. The inverter output voltage control system has the PID controller with a minor loop of the filter inductor current and tile feedforward controller. The proposed control scheme also solves resonant voltage overshoot without any additional switch or passive component, resulting in pulses with uniform amplitude and high efficiency. Experimental results in the case of linear and nonlinear loads are presented to confirm the usefulness of the Proposed control algorithms.
Arago's disk system consists of a speed controller of the DC motor (inner loop controller) and a position controller of the magnetic bar angle (main controller), which are implemented by the design of the PI and PID controller, respectively. First, we analyzed the nonlinear characteristics of the Arago disk system and found the operating point range of three locations as a result. In this paper, a gain scheduler method was applied to guarantee a constant control performance in the range of $0{\sim}130^{\circ}C$, and a structure to change the controller according to the control reference value based on the previously obtained operating points was experimentally implemented. The Distributed Control Systems (DCS) configuration using the Controller Area Network (CAN) was used to verify the proposed method by improving the operational efficiency of the entire experimental system. So, simplicity of the circuit and easy diagnosis were achieved through a single CAN bus communication.

The inverted pendulum system is a common, interesting control problem that involves many basic elements of control theory. In the early, controls of stabilization for the inverted pendulum system were used classical methods like PD, PID controller. In recently, however, control methods based on modern and intelligent control theory are widely applied. The fuzzy logic controller which is often used in nonlinear control is a little too hard to design due to increasing fuzzy rules rapidly if the given system like inverted pendulum has many state variables. Also, in case the state variables are divided into two parts, two fuzzy controllers are needed in the control system. In this paper, the authors propose FCSC(Fuzzy Controller based on State variables Combination) that reorganized into two new signals depending on the physical meaning of the four state variables of the inverted pendulum system. The proposed method is applied to the inverted pendulum system and simulations are accomplished to illustrate the control performance.

This paper presents dynamic modelling and simulation study on attitude/altitude control of an insect-mimicking flapping micro aerial vehicle during hovering. Mathematical modelling consists of three parts: simplified flapping kinematics, flapping-wing aerodynamics, and six degree of freedom dynamics. Attitude stabilization is accomplished through linear quadratic regulator based on the linearized model of the time-varying nonlinear system, and altitude control is designed in the outer loop using PID control. The performance of the proposed controller is verified through numerical simulation where attitude stabilization and altitude control is done for hovering. In addition, it is confirmed that the attitude channel by periodic control is marginally stable against periodic pitching moment caused by flapping.

For a missile with a strapdown seeker, line-of-sight rate for guidance is obtained by compensating the look angle rate from the strapdown seeker by the body angular rate from rate gyros. However, the body angular rate from rate gyros has different signal properties when it compared to the body angular rate implicitly included in the look angle rate. Typically this discrepancy causes instability of homing loop. In this paper, we propose a design method of homing loop where seeker delay is compulsively placed in the output signal of the rate gyros for accordance of both body rates. Also, PID control loop is considered for obtaining stabilized guidance command even though uncertainties of seeker delay is associated. The stability analysis for the linear homing loop before and after the compensation has been done. The stability and performance of the designed terminal homing loop is verified through full nonlinear 6-DOF simulations.

Due to the friction characteristics of cylinders and the rail of a passenger car, in the elevator actuated with hydraulic systems, there exist dead zones, which can not be controlled by a PID controller. To overcome the drawbacks, in this paper, we first try a hybrid controller which switches between a fuzzy logic controller and a PID controller. However, because the hybrid control scheme uses only a single type controller, except the switched layer, the high control performance can not be achieved. To solve this problem, we propose a new type fuzzy hybrid control scheme, which outputs of the output mixer arc controlled by a fuzzy logic. The hydraulic elevator system controlled by inverters has more then one switched layers due to the highly nonlinear characteristics. The proposed fuzzy hybrid control scheme achieves improved control performances by using both controllers with weighted outputs depend on the system status, to achieve improved control performances. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme arc shown by simulation results, which the proposed fuzzy hybrid control method yields good control performance not only in the zero crossing speed region but also in the overall control region including steady-state region.

A chemical reaction occurring in CSTR (Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor) is significantly affected by the concentration, temperature, pressure, and reacting time of materials, and thus it has strong nonlinear and time-varying characteristics. Also, when an existing linear PID controller with fixed gain is used, the performance could deteriorate or could be unstable if the system parameters change due to the change in the operating point of CSTR. In this study, a technique for the design of a fuzzy PD plus I controller was proposed for the temperature control of a CSTR process. In the fuzzy PD plus I controller, a linear integral controller was added to a fuzzy PD controller in parallel, and the steady-state performance could be improved based on this. For the fuzzy membership function, a Gaussian type was used; for the fuzzy inference, the Max-Min method of Mamdani was used; and for the defuzzification, the center of gravity method was used. In addition, the saturation state of the actuator was also considered during controller design. The validity of the proposed method was examined by comparing the set-point tracking performance and the robustness to the parameter change with those of an adaptive controller and a nonlinear proportional-integral-differential controller.

This paper proposes a method for measuring friction forces and creating a friction model for a rotary motion control system as well as an autonomous vehicle testbed. The friction forces versus the velocity were measured, and the viscous friction, Coulomb friction, and stiction were identified. With a nominal PID (proportional-integral-derivative) controller, we observed the adverse effects due to friction, such as excessive steady-state errors, oscillations, and limit-cycles. By adding an adequate friction model as part of the augmented nonlinear dynamics of a plant, we were able to conduct a simulation study of a motion control system that well matched experimental results. We have observed that the implementation of a model-based friction compensator improves the overall performance of both motion control systems, i.e., the rotary motion control system and the Altino testbed for autonomous vehicle development. By utilizing a better simulation tool with an embedded friction model, we expect that the overall development time and cost can be reduced.

This paper presents modal analysis and mean conveying velocity (M.C.V.) control of bowl parts feeder activated by piezoactuators. Bowl parts feeders are being widely used in many industry fields for automatic assembly line. In general, the electromagnet has been and being used as exciting actuator of these vibratory bowl feeders. However, because of complexity of its mechanism and limited capability of the electromagnet actuator, there exist various impending problems such as severe noise, nonlinear motion of parts, passive characteristics and so forth. As one of solutions for these problems, piezoelectric actuators as new actuating technology have been proposed recently to excite the bowl parts feeder. In this paper, modal analysis of the proposed model has been performed to examine the modal characteristics of the model by using commercial FEM software and modeling with respects to MCV is constructed. Finally, MCV of the parts is to be controlled to track the desired one with PID controller.
