The storage ring vacuum system for the Pohang Light Source (PLS) has been designed to maintain the vacuum pressure of $10^{-10}Torr$ which requires UHV welding to have helium leak rate less than $1{\times}10^{-10}Torr{\cdot}{\ell}/sec$. In order to develop new technique (PLS) welding technique), a prototype vacuum chamber has been welded by using Tungsten Inert Gas welding method and all the welded joints have been tested with a non-destructive method, so called helium leak detection, to investigate the vacuum tightness of the weld joints. The test was performed with a detection limit of $1{\times}10^{-10}Torr{\cdot}{\ell}/sec$ for helium and no detectable leaks were found for all the welded joints. Thus the performance of welding technique is proven to meet the criteria of helium leak rate required in the PLS Storage Ring. Both the principle and the procedure for the helium leak detection are also discussed.

Nowadays Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) solar cell is attracting a lot of attention as a strong alternative to CIGS solar cell due to nontoxic and inexpensive constituent elements of CZTS. From various processes for the fabrication of CZTS solar cell, solution-based deposition of CZTS thin films is well-known non-vacuum process and many researchers are focusing on this method because of large-area deposition, high-throughput, and efficient material usage. Typically the solution-based process consists of two steps, coating of precursor solution and annealing of the precursor thin films. Unlike vacuum-based deposition, precursor solution contains unnecessary elements except Cu, Zn, Sn, and S in order to form high quality precursor thin films, and thus the precise control of precursor thin film preparation is essential for achieving high efficient CZTS solar cells. In this work, we have investigated the effect of preparation condition of CZTS precursor thin films on the performance of CZTS solar cells. The composition of CZTS precursor solution was controlled for obtaining optimized chemical composition of CZTS absorber layers for high-efficiency solar cells. Pre-annealing process of the CZTS precursor thin films was also investigated to confirm the effect of thermal treatment on chemical composition and carbon residues of CZTS absorber layers. The change of the morphology of CZTS precursor thin film by the preparation condition was also observed.
We study the Riemann problem for the pressureless Euler system with the source term depending on the time. By means of the variable substitution, two kinds of Riemann solutions including deltashock and vacuum are constructed. The generalized Rankine-Hugoniot relation and entropy condition of the delta-shock are clarified. Because of the source term, the Riemann solutions are non-self-similar. Moreover, we propose a time-dependent viscous system to show all of the existence, uniqueness and stability of solutions involving the delta-shock by the vanishing viscosity method.

Powdered metal parts and components may be carburized successfully in a vacuum furnace by combining carburizing technology $VacCarb^{TM}$ with a hi-tech control system. This approach is different from traditional carburizing methods, because vacuum carburizing is a non-equilibrium process. It is not possible to set the carbon potential as in a traditional carburizing atmosphere and control its composition in order to obtain a desired carburized case. This paper presents test results that demonstrate that vacuum carburizing system $VacCarb^{TM}$ carburized P.M. materials faster than traditional steel with acceptable results. In the experiments conducted, PM samples with the lowest density and open porosity showed a dramatic increase in the surface carbon content up to 2.5%C and a 3 times deeper case. Currently the boost-diffusion technique is applied to control the surface carbon content and distribution in the case. In the first boost step, the flow of the carburizing gas has to be sufficient to saturate the austenite, while avoiding soot deposition and formation of massive carbides. To accomplish this goal, the proper gas flow rate has to be calculated. In the case of P.M. parts, more carbon can be absorbed by the part's surface because of the additional internal surface area created by pores present in the carburized case. This amount will depend on the density of the part, the densification grade of the surface layer and the stage of the surface. "as machined" or "as sintered". It is believed that enhanced gas diffusion after initial evacuation of the P.M. parts leads to faster carburization from within the pores, especially when pores are open . surface "as sintered" and interconnected . low density. A serious problem with vacuum carburizing is delivery of the carbon in a uniform manner to the work pieces. This led to the development of the different methods of carburizing gas circulation such as the pulse/pump method or the pulse/pause technique applied in SECO/WARWICK's $VacCarb^{TM}$ Technology. In both cases, each pressure change may deliver fresh carburizing atmosphere into the pores and leads to faster carburization from within the pores. Since today's control of vacuum carburizing is based largely on empirical results, presented experiments may lead to better understanding and improved control of the process.
To establish the calibration system of hot cathode ionization gauges as transfer gauges, researches were concentrated on measurements of the pressure ratio, the orifice conductance as well as the porous plug conductance of a ultrahigh vacuum standards system. Two ionization gauges obtained from two different vendors were calibrated in the pressure range of $7{times}10^{-7}$ to $4{times}10^{-3}$ Pa by injecting argon gas into the standards system. As a result, a 4% difference was revealed in non-linearity of the extractor ionization gauge due to the pressure difference between high vacuum and ultrahigh vacuum, and 3% for the stabil ionization gauge. It has been understood that the extractor ionization gauge is able to be used within the 10% error, the uncertainty of the extractor ionization gauge, if properly regulating the sensitivity of the gas. The stabil ionization gauge was also proved to be useable in the maximum error margin of 4% without the control of the gas sensitivity.

In this study, the vacuum distillation process for producing non-alcoholic red wine was optimized via response surface methodology. As a result of optimizing the responses (alcohol content, yield) for independent variables (operating time, boiling point, and temperature difference), 1% alcohol content and 81.15% yield were obtained at an operating time of 24.5 min, boiling point of 65℃, and temperature difference of 8℃. To investigate the physicochemical and sensory properties, non-alcoholic wines with different boiling points (bp 25℃, bp 45℃, and bp 65℃) and a blended wine (4.2% of control wine added) were prepared. As the boiling point increased, the alcohol content decreased, and CI (color intensity) and Hue increased. Blended wine exhibited the highest value and bp 65℃ showed the lowest value in terms of sensory properties. In conclusion, distillation at a low boiling point and blending control wine could be used to prepare non-alcoholic wine with a high preference.

Biosensors currently suffer from severe non-specific adsorption of proteins, which causes false positive errors in detection through overestimation of the affinity value. Overcoming this technical issue motivates our research. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is well known for its ability to reduce the adsorption of biomolecules; hence, it is widely used in various areas of medicine and other biological fields. Likewise, amine functionalized surfaces are widely used for biochemical analysis, drug delivery, medical diagnostics and high throughput screening such as biochips. As a result, many coating techniques have been introduced, one of which is plasma polymerization - a powerful coating method due to its uniformity, homogeneity, mechanical and chemical stability, and excellent adhesion to any substrate. In our previous works, we successfully fabricated plasmapolymerized PEG (PP-PEG) films [1] and amine functionalized films [2] using the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) technique. In this research, an amine functionalized PP-PEG film was fabricated by using the plasma co-polymerization technique with PEG 200 and ethylenediamine (EDA) as co-precursors. A biocompatible amine functionalized film was surface characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The density of the surface amine functional groups was carried out by quantitative analysis using UV-visible spectroscopy. We found through surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analysis that non-specific protein adsorption was drastically reduced on amine functionalized PP-PEG films. Our functionalized PP-PEG films show considerable potential for biotechnological applications such as biosensors.

In this paper, we report a non-explosive separation device for a small satellite which utilize a shape memory alloy actuator. Based on previous research, we try to increase the reliability of the proposed device by changing some components. It enables the proposed device to activate under high preload. Also, we confirm it generates low shock which is main advantage of non-explosive separation device. Finally, vibration test which mimics launching environment and thermal vacuum test which mimics space environment are carried out respectively. After each environment test, we confirm the proposed device is successfully activated. Conclusively, we develop a non-explosive separation device which can activate with low shock under high preload after shock and environment tests(vibration and thermal vacuum tests).

Dermatophytes can invade in keratinized tissues and cause dermatophytosis [1] that rank among the most widespread and common infectious diseases world-wide. Although several systemically and topically administered drugs with activities against these fungi are available, still complete eradication of some of these infections, is difficult and relapses and remissions are often observed [2,3]. In addition, some people are allergic to many of the available drugs which add complications even more. Therefore, the search for novel, selective and more effective therapy is always required and it may help the clinicians to choose the correct treatment for their patients. Non-thermal plasmas primarily generate reactive species and recently have emerged as an efficient tool for medical applications including sterilization. In this study, we evaluated the ability of non-thermal dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma for the inactivation of clinical isolates of Trichophyton genera, Trichophyton mentagrophytes (T. mentagrophytes) and Trichophyton rubrum (T. rubrum), which cause infections of nails and skin and, are two of the most frequently isolated dermatophytes [4]. Our results showed that DBD plasma has considerable time dependent inactivation potential on both T. mentagrophytes and T. rubrum in-vitro. Furthermore, the mechanisms for plasma based T. mentagrophytes and T. rubrum inactivation and planning for in-vivo future studies will be discussed.
