In this work, we propose to employ magnetostrictive sensors to develop a new non-contacting modal testing method. Specific applications are made in the modal testing of a beam in bending. The role of bias magnetic fields in measuring bending waves is addressed and an approximate analysis to explain the principle to measure bending signals is carried out. The measured modal data by the present method agree well with those by conventional methods using accelerometers.

Concrete carbonation is a continuous and slow process from the outside to the inside, in which its penetration slows down with the increased depth of carbonation. In this paper, the results of the evaluation of the measurement of concrete carbonation depth using a non-destructive ultrasonic testing method are presented. According to the results, the relative nonlinear parameter caused more sensitivity in carbonation changes compared to Rayleigh's fuzzy velocity. Thus, the acoustic nonlinear parameter is expected to be applied as a quantitative index to recognize carbonation effects. In this research, combo diagrams were developed based on the results of ultrasonic testing and the experiment to determine carbonation depth using a phenolphthalein solution, which could be considered as instructions in the projects involving non-destructive ultrasonic test methods. The minimum and maximum accuracy of this method were 89% and 97%, respectively, which is a reasonable range for operational projects. From the analysis performed, some useful expressions are found by applying the regression analysis for the nonlinearity index and the carbonation penetration depth values as a guideline.

Experimental and discrete element methods were used to investigate the effects of angle of Y shape non-persistent joint on the tensile behaviour of joint's bridge area under brazilian test. concrete samples with diameter of 100 mm and thikness of 40 mm were prepared. Within the specimen, two Y shape non-persistent notches were provided. The large notch lengths were 6 cm, 4 cm and 2 cm. the small notch lengths were 3 cm, 2 cm and 1 cm. The angle of larger notch related to horizontal axis was 0°, 30°, 60°, 90°. Totally, 12 different configuration systems were prepared for Y shape non-persistent joints. Also, 18 models with different Y shape non-persistent notch angle and notch length were prepared in numerical model. The large notch lengths were 6 cm, 4 cm and 2 cm. the small notch lengths were 3 cm, 2 cm and 1 cm. The angle of larger notch related to horizontal axis was 0, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150. Tensile strength of model materil was 1 MPa. The axial load was applied to the model by rate of 0.02 mm/sec. This testing showed that the failure process was mostly governed by the Y shape non-persistent joint angle and joint length. The tensile strengths of the specimens were related to the fracture pattern and failure mechanism of the discontinuities. It was shown that the tensile behaviour of discontinuities is related to the number of the induced tensile cracks which are increased by increasing the joint length and joint angle. The minimum tensile strength occurs when the angle of larger joint related to horizontal axis was 60°. Also, the maximum compressive strength occurs when the angle of larger joint related to horizontal axis was 90°. The tensile strength was decreased by increasing the notch length. The failure pattern and failure strength are similar in both methods i.e. the experimental testing and the numerical simulation methods.
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to find which technique, between the PAUT (Phased array ultrasonic test) that has been used widely in practice and RT (Radiographic test) that was used widely in the past, has the higher reliability as a non-destructive testing of welding points in water wall tubes. Methods: To evaluated the reliability of non-destructive testing, eleven test pieces that were fabricated intentionally, which have the most frequently occurred defect types in water wall tubes and then both the PAUT and RT were performed on those eleven test pieces to compare their reliability. Results: The differences of type of defect, length are occurred due to the characteristics of nondestructive testing. The RT could not detect the lack of fusion defect type in specimen #4 and #8 while PAUT could not detect the lateral crack and 1 mm size small porosity in specimen #11. Conclusion: It is concluded that applying both the RT and PAUT result the best reliability rather than applying only one test method, if it is possible, in nondestructive testing of weld water wall tube in thermal power plant boiler case.
Background: To evaluate knowledge of Bangkok women regarding HPV and self-sampled HPV testing, and their attitudes towards testing. Materials and Methods: Thai women who had lived in Bangkok for more than 5 years, aged 25-to-65 years old, were invited to join the study. Participating women were asked to a complete self-questionnaire (Thai language), with literate assistance as needed. The questionnaire was divided into 3 parts: (I) demographic data, (II) knowledge and (III) attitudes towards self-sampled HPV testing. Before proceeding to Part III of the questionnaire, a 15-minute educational video of self-sampled HPV testing was presented to all participants. Results: Among 2,810 women who answered the questionnaires, 33.7% reported that they did not know about HPV. The characteristic features of these women were older age (> 50 years), lower income (< 600 USD/month), unemployed status, and non-attendees at cervical cancer screening. Only small numbers of women (4.6%) responded that they had heard about self-sampled HPV testing. After having information, 59.6% would not use the self-sampled HPV testing as a method of cervical cancer screening (non-acceptance). Factors significantly associated with the non-acceptance were older age, lower income, having no knowledge about HPV or self-collected HPV testing, a perception that the testing was unreliable and a concern that they might not be able to perform it correctly. Conclusions: Nearly half and almost all Bangkok women did not know about HPV and self-sampled HPV testing, respectively. Approximately 60% of Bangkok women refused to do the self-sampled HPV testing. Significant negative attitudes were concerns that the testing would be unreliable and a lack of confidence to perform the procedure correctly. Education about HPV and self-sampled HPV testing, ease of the procedure, or the testing models may increase rate of acceptability or positive attitudes.
Conventional measurement methods for non-destructive testing(NDT) in nuclear power plants and other industrial plants have been performed as the methods of contact with objects to be inspect, but those methods have been taken relatively much time to be inspected. Holographic interferometry which is a non-contact optical measurement method using a coherent light can overcome these demerit, and also has an advantage that the quantitative measurement of small deformation for large areas can be accomplished at a time with high precision. In this paper the comparisons of the experimental results form holographic interferometry with those from the finite element method(FEM) and the analytical solutions of the elastic equation are discussed.
Terahertz (THz) imaging and spectroscopy have been developed as non-destructive testing methods for various industrial applications. However, they have not been widely adopted in real applications owing to a high system price and the large size of conventional THz time-domain spectroscopy systems, which are based on ultrashort optical pulse lasers. Recently, various types of compact THz emitters and detectors have become available. As a result, THz non-destructive test (NDT) systems have become viable solutions. Herein, we briefly review the recent advances in THz NDT techniques adopting continuous-wave THz systems, including our recent results of a THz-based waterproof test system and an electrical connection inspection system for car manufacturing.
Exploration in microelectromechanical systems(MEMS) and nanotechnology requires evaluation techniques suitable for sub-micron length scale so that thermal and mechanical properties of novel materials can be investigated for optimal design of miro/nanostructures. The ultrafast optical pump-probe technique provides a contact-free and non-destructive way to characterize nanoscale thin-films, and its ultrahigh temporal resolution enables the study of heat-transport phenomena down to a sub-picosecond regime. This paper reviews the principle of optical pump-probe technique and introduces its application to the area of micro/nano-NDE.
One-dimensional arrays with subscripts formed by induction variables in real programs appear quite frequently. For most famous data dependence testing methods, checking if integer-valued solutions exist for one-dimensional arrays with references created by induction variable is very difficult. The I test, which is a refined combination of the GCD and Banerjee tests, is an efficient and precise data dependence testing technique to compute if integer-valued solutions exist for one-dimensional arrays with constant bounds and single increments. In this paper, the non-continuous I test, which is an extension of the I test, is proposed to figure out whether there are integer-valued solutions for one-dimensional arrays with constant bounds and non-sing ularincrements or not. Experiments with the benchmarks that have been cited from Livermore and Vector Loop, reveal that there are definitive results for 67 pairs of one-dimensional arrays that were tested.
