  • Concrete is the most significant material in the construction industry which is required to construct several facilities like roads, buildings, and bridges etc. which leads to the economic development of a country. But now days, in view of sustainable development and environmental problems, plastic waste management is one of the major environmental issues due to its non-biodegradable nature which allows it to stay in the landfills until they are cleaned up. To overcome all these concerns, plastic waste may be used as a substitute of natural fine and coarse aggregate in concrete and a valuable solution to utilize the plastic items which causes several problems. In order to, present study is focused on the affecting properties of concrete as workability, compressive strength, and tensile strength of concrete with using plastic waste and without using plastic waste. Based on the detailed literature, it was observed that the plastic waste is not affecting the quality and consistency of concrete. However, as the number of PVC particles in the mixture increased, the drying shrinkage values decreased and the inclusion of plastic flakes can mitigate drying shrinkage cracking which leads the higher durability of concrete. Based on the comprehensive literature, it was also observed that the plastic aggregate found to be suitable for low and medium strength concrete. However, the investigation on the application of plastic aggregate in the high strength concrete is found limited. It was concluded that the optimum percentage of the plastic aggregate was found about 20%.

  • Korean cadastral system is primarily based on the graphical maps, thus, map reproduction by excessive shrinkage or extension, map mishandling and imperfection of surveying techniques have created cadastral non-coincident areas, which caused public distrust as well as considerable difficulties in land administration and policy making. Therefore, in this study, the methodologies for the resolution of the non-coincident problem are presented by means of a comparative analysis between cases of the non-coincident areas. The non-coincidence caused by the mismatch of parcel boundaries can be settled by introducing a coordinate-based system, namely $\ulcorner$Integrated Land Information System$\lrcorner$, meanwhile, those by other reasons can be done by establishing and executing a plan that can deliver the unification of the cadastral and the land registration systems. Governmental intention and budgetary measures for securing the project expenses are essential to make this feasible. If the comprehensive improvement project is completed, the cadastral registers that define the parcel boundary, area and ownership will recover public confidence, which in turn secures land owners' rights by promoting land markets and stabilizing land prices.

  • Imitation fish roe (IFR) based on calcium alginate hydrogels (CAG) can be heat treated for sterilization and salted to prolong the shelf life. However, these processes change the physical properties of IFR, and it is necessary to minimize these changes. In this study, we investigated the effects of xanthan gum (XG) treatment on the quality and stability of IFR. Both non-XG and XG-treated IFRs were treated with boiling water (95℃), sodium chloride (0.5-2.0%, w/v), and autoclaving. The non-XG treated IFR shrunk slightly after the boiling water and autoclaving processes. By comparison, shrinkage of the XG-treated IFR after autoclaving was significantly reduced. The sphericity of the non-XG treated IFR was reduced by the boiling water, sodium chloride, and autoclaving treatment. However, the sphericity of the XG-treated IFR was maintained by 90% or more, preserving the IFR shape at a level visually recognized as spherical. In addition, unlike the non-XG treated IFR, the XG-treated IFR showed high rupture strength even after the salt and heat treatments. Our findings provide useful information for the industrialization of IFR based on CAG with heat and salt treatments.

  • This paper presents the differences in growth of time-dependent strain values in reinforced cement concrete (RCC) and pre-stressed concrete (PSC) flexural members through experiment. It was observed that at any particular age, the time-dependent strain values were less in RCC beams than in PSC beams of identical size and grade of concrete. Variables considered in the study were percentage area of reinforcement, span of members for RCC beams and eccentricity of applied pre-stress force for PSC beams. In RCC beams the time-dependent strain values increases with reduction in percentage area of reinforcement and in PSC beams eccentricity directly influences the growth of time-dependent strain. With increase in age, a non-uniform strain develops across the depth of beams which influence the growth of concave curvature in RCC beams and convex curvature in PSC beams. The experimentally obtained strain values were compared with predicted strain values of similar size and grade of plane concrete (PC) beam using ACI 318 Model Code and found more than RCC beams but less than PSC beams.

  • The test on the mix of PVA fiber of low carbon inorganic composite as a cement substitute found it to be satisfactory in terms of flexibility and stiffness. The result of the evaluation of the properties of low carbon inorganic panel revealed that the absorptivity was low at 8 to 9%, which is lower than the KS value of 25%. Also, the test on non-combustibility and gas toxicity found that these factors satisfied the decision criteria. In the test on heavy metals discharges, Pb, Cd, Cr6+, Hg, and As were not detected. Regarding far-Infrared emissivity and formaldehyde emission, the substitute was found to be harmless to the human body. Therefore, if the issue of shrinkage, which is a disadvantage of inorganic composites, is addressed, it is judged that it is possible to develop a low carbon inorganic composite panel with better performance.

  • A method is presented for the analysis of curved segmentally erected prestressed concrete box girder bridges including time-dependent effects due to load history, temperature history, creep, shrinkage, aging of concrete and relaxation of prestressing steel. The segments can be either precast or cast-in-place. Thin-walled beam theory and finite element method are combined to develop a curved nonprismatic thin-walled box beam element. The element consists of three nodes and each node has eight displacement degrees of freedom, including transverse distortion and longitudinal warping of the cross section.

  • The study of recycled aggregate concrete in which demolition waste is utilized to produce aggregate for new concrete, can contribute to the solution of two problems, The first is the shortage of aggregate from river, and the second is the waste disposal problem. In comparison with natural aggregate concrete, recycled aggregate concrete shows reductions in compressive strength , tensile strength, vending strength , shear strength and increases in drying shrinkage and creep. Recycled aggregate concrete may also be less durable due to increase in porosity and permeability. The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the variation of engineering properties according to replacement proportion of recycled aggregates and applicability of non-destructive test in the gardened recycled concrete.

  • This study was to investigate the physical properties and the external characteristics of denim fabrics(100% cotton non-spun denim, 98% cotton/2% polyurethane spun denim) such as tensile strength, thickness and weight, flex stiffness, surface color and shrinkage. The results of the study were as follows. After examining the change of external characteristics of before and after washing finishing for denim fabrics, denim with bio washing had increased pliability compared to denim without washing finishing but the pliability of the denim did not increase according to the intensity or frequency of washing. The luminance change according to washing finishing was high in the order of bio stone bleach washing, bio stone washing, bio washing and denim without washing finishing and the surface color became brighter in accordance with the increase of intensity and frequency of washing finishing.

  • Deformation analysis of injection molded articles whose geometry is considered as the assembly of the thin flat plates has been conducted. For the in-mold analysis, thermo-viscoelastic stress calculation of rheologically simple amorphous polymer and in-mold deformation calculation considering the in-plane mold constraint has been done. Free volume theory has been used for the non-equilibrium density state by the fast cooling. At ejection, the redistribution of stress together with instantaneous deformation has been considered. During out-of-mold cooling after ejection, thermoelastic model based on the effective temperature has been adopted for the calculation of deformation. Two typical mold geometries are used to test the numerical simulation.
