Improvement of Luminous Efficacy of Plasma Display Panel with Double Pulse Memory (Double Pulse Memory 방식을 이용한 Plasma Display Panel의 효율 향상에 관한 연구)

  • A Plasma Display Panel with Double Pulse Memory was fabricated and its luminance and luminous efficacy were investigated. Application of non-discharge pulses to an auxiliary anode increased luminance by 43% and luminous efficacy by 33%. Compared to PDP with PPM(Planar Pulse Memory) driving technique, PDP with DPM obtained higher luminous efficacy and consumed lower power with the same delay time.

A Method of Genetic Algorithm Based Multiobjective Optimization via Cooperative Coevolution

  • The paper deals with the identification of Pareto optimal solutions using GA based coevolution in the context of multiobjective optimization. Coevolution is a genetic process by which several species work with different types of individuals in parallel. The concept of cooperative coevolution is adopted to compensate for each of single objective optimal solutions during genetic evolution. The present study explores the GA based coevolution, and develops prescribed and adaptive scheduling schemes to reflect design characteristics among single objective optimization. In the paper, non-dominated Pareto optimal solutions are obtained by controlling scheduling schemes and comparing each of single objective optimal solutions. The proposed strategies are subsequently applied to a three-bar planar truss design and an energy preserving flywheel design to support proposed strategies.

  • The four species of the suborder Holaxonia, Anthogorgia japonica Studer, 1889 of family Acanthogorgiidae, Astrogorgia rubra (Thomson & Henderson, 1906), Euplexaura attenuata (Nutting, 1910), and E. erecta (Kukenthal, 1908) of family Plexauridae have been newly recorded in Korea. They were collected from intertidal and sublittoral zones in the western and southern coasts and Jeju-do Island of Korea by SCUBA diving and fishing nets from 1969 to 2010. This study approaches holaxonians by focusing on external and internal morphologies including size, form, and color of colonies, branches, polyps, coenenchyme, axis, and spicules. Anthogorgia japonica is characterized by its planar growth form, dichotomously branched form, non-retractile polyps, and Astrogorgia rubra by arrangement of calyxes being situated in lateral side at stems and alternately in all sides at branches. Euplexaura attenuata is sparsely and laterally branched colony, and has straight wand-like stems. Euplexaura erecta has branches which run parallel to the main stem.

  • We solve the isoperimetric problem, the least-perimeter way to enclose a given area, on various Euclidean, spherical, and hyperbolic surfaces, sometimes with cusps or free boundary. On hyperbolic genus-two surfaces, Adams and Morgan characterized the four possible types of isoperimetric regions. We prove that all four types actually occur and that on every hyperbolic genus-two surface, one of the isoperimetric regions must be an annulus. In a planar annulus bounded by two circles, we show that the leastperimeter way to enclose a given area is an arc against the outer boundary or a pair of spokes. We generalize this result to spherical and hyperbolic surfaces bounded by circles, horocycles, and other constant-curvature curves. In one case the solution alternates back and forth between two types, a phenomenon we have yet to see in the literature. We also examine non-orientable surfaces such as spherical M$\ddot{o}$obius bands and hyperbolic twisted chimney spaces.

  • A new technique for numerical calculation of viscoelastic flow based on the combination of Neural Net-works (NN) and Brownian Dynamics simulation or Stochastic Simulation Technique (SST) is presented in this paper. This method uses a "universal approximator" based on neural network methodology in combination with the kinetic theory of polymeric liquid in which the stress is computed from the molecular configuration rather than from closed form constitutive equations. Thus the new method obviates not only the need for a rheological constitutive equation to describe the fluid (as in the original Calculation Of Non-Newtonian Flows: Finite Elements St Stochastic Simulation Techniques (CONNFFESSIT) idea) but also any kind of finite element-type discretisation of the domain and its boundary for numerical solution of the governing PDE's. As an illustration of the method, the time development of the planar Couette flow is studied for two molecular kinetic models with finite extensibility, namely the Finitely Extensible Nonlinear Elastic (FENE) and FENE-Peterlin (FENE-P) models.P) models.

Element-free simulation of dilute polymeric flows using Brownian Configuration Fields

  • The computation of viscoelastic flow using neural networks and stochastic simulation (CVFNNSS) is developed from the point of view of Eulerian CONNFFESSIT (calculation of non-Newtonian flows: finite elements and stochastic simulation techniques). The present method is based on the combination of radial basis function networks (RBFNs) and Brownian configuration fields (BCFs) where the stress is computed from an ensemble of continuous configuration fields instead of convecting discrete particles, and the velocity field is determined by solving the conservation equations for mass and momentum with a finite point method based on RBFNs. The method does not require any kind of element-type discretisation of the analysis domain. The method is verified and its capability is demonstrated with the start-up planar Couette flow, the Poiseuille flow and the lid driven cavity flow of Hookean and FENE model materials.

A Numerical Analysis of the Thickness-Induced Effect on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wings Moving Near Ground

  • A numerical method to simulate Wing-In-Ground(WIG) effects for the wings moving near ground is developed. The aerodynamic analysis scheme for the wings is based on a compressible non-planar lifting surface panel method and the WIG effect is included by images. The thickness-induced effect is implemented into the lifting surface panel method by using the teardrop theory. The numerical simulation is done for the rectangular wings by varying the ground proximity. The present method is validated by comparing the calculated aerodynamic coefficients with other numerical results and measured data, showing good agreements.

Pseudo-dynamic approach of seismic earth pressure behind cantilever retaining wall with inclined backfill surface

  • Knowledge of seismic earth pressure against rigid retaining wall is very important. Mononobe-Okabe method is commonly used, which considers pseudo-static approach. In this paper, the pseudo-dynamic method is used to compute the distribution of seismic earth pressure on a rigid cantilever retaining wall supporting dry cohesionless backfill. Planar rupture surface is considered in the analysis. Effect of various parameters like wall friction angle, soil friction angle, shear wave velocity, primary wave velocity, horizontal and vertical seismic accelerations on seismic earth pressure have been studied. Results are presented in terms of tabular and graphical non-dimensional form.

  • We have fabricated the direct-coupled planar type 1st-order SQUID gradiometers. The gradiometer consists of moats or slots in SQUID loop. It is made by YBa$_2Cu_3O_7$ thin films using pulsed laser deposition method on SrTiO$_3$ single crystal and bi-crystal substrates. We have studied the effects of slots and moats in SQUID loop by measuring the voltage modulation signals under uniform field and 1st-order gradient, and the noise properties under non-shielded environment.

A Study on the Magnetic Properties of Fe-base Amorphous Alloys in High Frequency (철계비정질합금의 고주파 자기특성 연구)

  • The Fe-base amorphous ribbons with 15mm width and about 20x10S0-6Tm thickness, (FeS179-xTCrS1xT)BS116TSiS15T and (FeS181-xTMnS1xT) BS112TSiS17T (x:0-6), were prepared melt spinner. The thickness of the ribbons followed by PFC (Planar Flow Casting). The initial permeability and total core losses were measured as a function of additive elements (Cr, Mn) and annealing conditions in high frequency for the purpose of using these materials as a core of magnetic amplifier and switched mode power supplies. The initial permeabilities were enhanced and core losses were decreased by non-magnetic field annealing in proper conditions. The lowest core loss in 0.2T/10kHz was measured at 3% Cr addition amorphous ribbon, and the loss was 5.6W/kg. The permeability of the ribbon at 10kHz was about 9000.
