  • This paper considers a finite spectrum assignment Problem for a functional retarded linear differential system with delays in control only. In this problem, by generalizing from an abstract linear system characterized by Semigroups on a Hilbert space to a finite dimensional linear system, we unify the relationship between a control-delayed system and its non-delayed system, and then by using the spectrum of the generator-decomposition of Semigroup, we try to get a feedback law which yields a finite spectrum of the closed-loop system, located at an arbitrarily preassigned sets of n points in the complex plane. The comparative examinations between the standard spectrum assignment method and the method of spectral projection for the feedback law which consists of proportional and finite interval terms over present and past values of control variables are also considered. The analysis is carry down to the elementary spectral projection level because, in spite of all the research efforts, so far there has been no significant attempt to obtain the feedback implementation directly from the abstract representation forms in the case of multivariables.

  • We describe a new method for removing non-linear phased array antenna aberration called "squint" problem. To develop a compensation scheme. theoretical antenna and artificial neural networks were used. The purpose of using the artificial neural networks is to develop an antenna system model that represents the steering function of an actual array. The artificial neural networks are also used to implement an inverse model which when concatenated with the antenna or antenna model will correct the "squint" problem. Combining the actual steering function and the inverse model contained in the artificial neural network, alters the steering command to the antenna so that the antenna will point to the desired position instead of squinting. The use of an artificial neural network provides a method of producing a non-linear system that can correct antenna performance. This paper demonstrates the feasibility of generating an inverse steering algorithm with artificial neural networks.

  • In this paper, we focus on maximizing weighted sum energy efficiency (EE) for a multi-cell multi-user channel. In order to solve this non-convex problem, we first decompose the original problem into a sequence of parallel subproblems which can optimized separately. For each subproblem, a base station employs dirty paper coding to maximize the EE for users within a cell while regulating interference induced to other cells. Since each subproblem can be transformed to a convex multiple-access channel problem, the proposed method provides a closed-form solution for power allocation. Then, based on the derived optimal covariance matrix for each subproblem, a local optimal solution is obtained to maximize the sum EE. Finally, simulation results show that our algorithm based on non-linear precoding achieves about 20 percent performance gains over the conventional linear precoding method.

  • This paper deals with the design of a low-order H/sub ∞/ controller by using an iterative linear matrix inequality (LMI) method. The low-order H/sub ∞/ controller is represented in terms of LMIs with a rank condition. To solve the non-convex rank-constrained LMI problem, the recently developed penalty function method is applied. With an increasing sequence of the penalty parameter, the solution of the penalized optimization problem moves towards the feasible region of the original non-convex problem. Numerical experiments showed the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • In order to provide simple and accurate wave theory in design of offshore structure, an analytical approximation is introduced in this paper. The solution is limited to flat bottom having a constant water depth. Water is considered as inviscid, incompressible and irrotational. The solution satisfies the continuity equation, bottom boundary condition and non-linear kinematic free surface boundary condition exactly. Error for dynamic condition is quite small. The solution is suitable in description of breaking waves. The solution is presented with closed form and dispersion relation is also presented with closed form. In the last century, there have been two main approaches to the nonlinear problems. One of these is perturbation method. Stokes wave and Cnoidal wave are based on the method. The other is numerical method. Dean's stream function theory is based on the method. In this paper, power series method was considered. The power series method can be applied to certain nonlinear differential equations (initial value problems). The series coefficients are specified by a nonlinear recurrence inherited from the differential equation. Because the non-linear wave problem is a boundary value problem, the power series method cannot be applied to the problem in general. But finite number of coefficients is necessary to describe the wave profile, truncated power series is enough. Therefore the power series method can be applied to the problem. In this case, the series coefficients are specified by a set of equations instead of recurrence. By using the set of equations, the nonlinear wave problem has been solved in this paper.

  • Hopfield networks have been applied to the problem of linear system identification. In this paper, Hopfield network based parameter identification scheme of non-linear dynamic systems is proposed. Simulation results demonstrate that Hopfield network can be used effectively for the identification of non-linear systems assuming that the system states and their time derivatives are available. Therefore, the proposed scheme can be applied in fault detection and isolation(FDI) and adaptive control of non-linear systems where the Hopfield networks perform on-line identification of system parameters.

  • Bilevel programming problem is a two-stage optimization problem where the constraint region of the first level problem is implicitly determined by another optimization problem. In this paper we consider the bilevel quadratic/linear fractional programming problem in which the objective function of the first level is quasiconcave, the objective function of the second level is linear fractional and the feasible region is a convex polyhedron. Considering the relationship between feasible solutions to the problem and bases of the coefficient submatrix associated to variables of the second level, an enumerative algorithm is proposed which finds a global optimum to the problem.

  • The PEPS(Polar-coordinated Effective Plastic Strain) FLD(Forming Limit Diagram), a new type of FLD based on a polar representation of the EPS(Effective Plastic Strain), appears to be an effective solution to the problem of non-linear strain path effects. This method has the advantages of the familiar strain-based diagram for linear loading, but without the strain-hardening limitations of the stress-based diagram, or non-intuitive aspects of alternate Cartesian diagrams based on effective plastic strain. In the current study, the PEPS FLD was applied to the development process of an aluminum automobile-body panel, including the necking or crack prediction, die design, and die modification. As a result, the PEPS FLD provided improved formability of aluminum sheet as compared to deriving the potential formability with non-linearity.

  • During the process of oxide removal from work rolls in sheet metal manufacture, filamentary brushes frequently exhibit a bouncing or chatter behavior. The dynamics of this phenomenon is investigated through the development of expressions for the non-linear contact stiffness between the brush and the roll. With formulation of simple structural models, the time responses in the presence and absence of friction under random excitation are investigated. Possible solutions for the minimization or avoidance of this bouncing or chatter problem are also suggested.
