  • Group level discriminations are observed in employment relations and other transactions in the form of residential occupational and production segregation and differential treatments. Recent developments in the rational theories of discrimination both on the market level and the non-market level are reviewed in terms of their relative strengths, weaknesses and complementarities. Taste discrimination could remain much suppressed in the market but could effect much chain reaction through various ways of statistical discrimination, price discrimination, human capital investment and segregation. Taste discrimination could also take the more structured form of co-workers' requiring compensation for reduced productivity due to increasing interactions with members of different language and culture in a non-segregative system. If could also be viewed in the framework of brand learning models. Non-market models of discrimination are seen to be an essential part to explain extended modes of discrimination.

  • This article aims to investigate the impact of Korean employment protection legislation that has implemented since 2007 on eliminating discrimination on non-regular worker's wage and social security. It is used the panel Tobit model reflecting the variation of implementation time according to the size of establishments. Although the employment protection laws for non-regular workers have implemented, the wage gap and discrimination in social security for non-regular workers have continued. Of course, the discrepancies on wage and social security were founded not only between regular and non-regular workers but also within non-regular workers. For reducing the discriminations, this study proposes to restrict the reason for justifying discrimination, and the introduction of a new approach to accessing the discrimination and complimentary credit system. Besides, this study suggests to actively review the strengthening of regulations on the use of non-regular workers.

  • Objective : In this study, we performed quantitative comparison on the content of 10 marker compounds in cinnamon barks from different species and found chemical discrimination between genuine Cinnamomum cassia and other Cinnamomum species (Non C. cassia). Methods : Cinnamon bark samples were extracted using the ultrasonication in 100% methanol for 30 minutes. The samples were analysed using high-performance liquid chromatography with statistical analysis. Results : The analytical method developed in this study met all validation criteria and was applied to the quantification of the 10 marker compounds in cinnamon bark samples. The major chemical discrimination of C. cassia were identified as low content of epicatechin and eugenol, and high contents of benzaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde and cinnamic acid compared to other Non C. cassia samples. Especially, among other compounds, the content of cinnamaldehyde was the highest in the C. cassia and Non C. cassia samples. The result of principal component analysis showed that the samples of C. cassia and Non C. cassia were clearly differentiated via benzaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, eugenol, and epicatechin, which influenced on clustering C. cassia and Non C. cassia samples. Conclusion : C. cassia and Non C. cassia samples were chemically discriminated using the quantitative HPLC analysis. Based on this, it is possible to control the quality of herbal medicines containing Cinnamomi Cortex. It is necessary to further improve the accuracy of discrimination between C. cassia and Non C. cassia species to evaluate cinnamon bark quality.

  • Purpose: Nondestructive evaluation of seed viability is a highly demanded technique in the seed industry. In this study, hyperspectral imaging system was used for discrimination of viable and non-viable radish seeds. Method: The spectral data with the range from 400 to 1000 nm measured by hyperspectral reflectance imaging system were used. A calibration and a test models were developed by partial least square discrimination analysis (PLS-DA) for classification of viable and non-viable radish seeds. Either each data set of visible (400~750 nm) and NIR (750~1000 nm) spectra and the spectra of the combined spectral ranges were used for developing models. Results: The discrimination accuracy of calibration was 84% for visible range and 76.3% for NIR range. The discrimination accuracy of test was 84.2% for visible range and 75.8% for NIR range. The discrimination accuracies of calibration and test with full range were 92.2% and 92.5%, respectively. The resultant images based on the optimal PLS-DA model showed high performance for the discrimination of the nonviable seeds from the viable seeds with the accuracy of 95%. Conclusions: The results showed that hyperspectral reflectance imaging has good potential for discriminating nonviable radish seeds from massive amounts of viable seeds.

  • Career development of Korean Immigrant Adolescents is important element for their Korea social adjustment and reduction of social exclusion. Especially, vocational identity is considered significantly for their career development. This study investigated the relationships and levels of discrimination, depression, self-esteem on vocational identity by comparing Korean immigrant adolescents and non-Immigrant adolescents(Korean parents family: non poor family or poor family). The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the depression level of immigrant adolescents is higher than non poor family adolescents and their self-esteem level is lower than non poor family adolescents by means analysis. second, The path analysis and multi group analysis showed that the degree of discrimination by perceived immigrant adolescents had direct influence on vocational identity and also mediated depression, self-esteem as indirect influence. But non poor family adolescents and poor family adolescents showed that their degree of discrimination had only indirect influence on vocational identity as mediation of depression, self-esteem. The result of analysis were used to discuss theoretical, practical implication for career development of Korea immigrant adolescents.

  • Discrimination of music and speech from the multimedia signal is an important task in audio coding and broadcast monitoring systems. This paper deals with the problem of feature parameter extraction for discrimination of music and speech. The wavelet transform is a multi-resolution analysis method that is useful for analysis of temporal and spectral properties of non-stationary signals such as speech and audio signals. We propose new feature parameters extracted from the wavelet transformed signal for discrimination of music and speech. First, wavelet coefficients are obtained on the frame-by-frame basis. The analysis frame size is set to 20 ms. A parameter $E_{sum}$ is then defined by adding the difference of magnitude between adjacent wavelet coefficients in each scale. The maximum and minimum values of $E_{sum}$ for period of 2 seconds, which corresponds to the discrimination duration, are used as feature parameters for discrimination of music and speech. To evaluate the performance of the proposed feature parameters for music and speech discrimination, the accuracy of music and speech discrimination is measured for various types of music and speech signals. In the experiment every 2-second data is discriminated as music or speech, and about 93% of music and speech segments have been successfully detected.
