A Dynamic Queue Management for Network Coding in Mobile Ad-hoc Network

  • Network Coding (NC) is a new paradigm for network communication. In network coding, intermediate nodes create new packets by algebraically combining ingress packets and send it to its neighbor node by broadcast manner. NC has rapidly emerged as a major research area in information theory due to its wide applicability to communication through real networks. Network coding is expected to improve throughput and channel efficiency in the wireless multi-hop network. Many researches have been carried out to employ network coding to wireless ad-hoc network. In this paper, we proposed a dynamic queue management to improve coding opportunistic to enhance efficiency of NC. In our design, intermediate nodes are buffering incoming packets to encode queue. We expect that the proposed algorithm shall improve encoding rate of network coded packet and also reduce end to end latency. From the simulation, the proposed algorithm achieved better performance in terms of coding gain and packet delivery rate than static queue management scheme.

모바일 다중 홉 기반의 무선 네트워크의 성능 평가 (Performance Evaluation of Wireless Network based on Mobile Multi-hop)

  • 이동통신 네트워크에서 주된 전력의 소모는 송신 전력이다. 따라서 최근에는 모바일 다중 홉 시스템 및 네트워크 분야에서 전력소모가 효율적인 네트워크 구조에 대한 중요성이 증가하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 M-QAM 신호와 FEC를 적용한 모바일 다중 홉 무선 시스템의 성능을 분석하였다. FEC 기술은 부호화 및 복호화를 위한 추가의 전력을 필요로 하며 통신 노드안에 구현하기 위한 복잡한 기능을 필요로 한다. 성능 평가를 위하여 본 논문에서는 채널 피라미터, 홉의 수, 노두사이의 거리를 함수로 하여 h 홉 중계를 거친 수신된 비트 및 부호어의 에러확률을 평가하였다.

Anti-inflammatory Activity of Chihyo-san to Protect Respiratory Tissues from Asthmatic Damage

  • The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of Chihyo-san (CHS) administration on asthma induced by Alum/OVA treatment in the mice. In CHS-treated animal group, lung weight, which was increased after asthma induction, was significantly decreased, and total number of cells in the lung, peripheral lymph node (PLN) and spleen tissue was significantly decreased in CHS-treated group compared to the asthma control group. The number of immune cells including natural killer (NK) cells in asthmatic animals was largely regulated by CHS treatment, showing a similar pattern as that of CsA-treated positive control group. Levels of mRNAs encoding inflammatory cytokines IL-5, IL-13, $TNF-{\alpha}$, and eotaxin were determined by RT-PCR in the lung tissue and showed decreases in CHS-treated group to the similar levels of CsA-treated control group, Histamine level in the serum was significantly lower in CHS-treated group than asthma-induced control group. Both haematoxylin and eosin staining and Masson's trichrome staining results showed decreased number of inflammatory cells, reduced immune cell infiltration, and normalized epithelial cell layering in the bronchial tissue of CHS-treated mouse group. Thus, the present findings suggest that CHS may be useful for protecting bronchial tissues from consistent inflammatory damages that occur in asthma patients.

Coding-based Storage Design for Continuous Data Collection in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • In-network storage is an effective technique for avoiding network congestion and reducing power consumption in continuous data collection in wireless sensor networks. In recent years, network coding based storage design has been proposed as a means to achieving ubiquitous access that permits any query to be satisfied by a few random (nearby) storage nodes. To maintain data consistency in continuous data collection applications, the readings of a sensor over time must be sent to the same set of storage nodes. In this paper, we present an efficient approach to updating data at storage nodes to maintain data consistency at the storage nodes without decoding out the old data and re-encoding with new data. We studied a transmission strategy that identifies a set of storage nodes for each source sensor that minimizes the transmission cost and achieves ubiquitous access by transmitting sparsely using the sparse matrix theory. We demonstrate that the problem of minimizing the cost of transmission with coding is NP-hard. We present an approximation algorithm based on regarding every storage node with memory size B as B tiny nodes that can store only one packet. We analyzed the approximation ratio of the proposed approximation solution, and compared the performance of the proposed coding approach with other coding schemes presented in the literature. The simulation results confirm that significant performance improvement can be achieved with the proposed transmission strategy.

무선 환경의 네트워크에서 랜덤 선형 네트워크 코딩 적용 성능 분석 (A Performance Analysis of Random Linear Network Coding in Wireless Networks)

  • 최근 무선 환경에서 네트워크 효율성 증대를 위하여 네트워크 코딩에 대한 연구들이 많이 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 무선 환경에서 RLNC를 적용하기 위한 고려사항들을 분석해 본다. 우선 기존의 멀티캐스트에서 사용하는 방식으로 우선 분산 환경에 RLNC에 적용 가능한지 살펴보았다. 시뮬레이션 결과 멀티캐스트에서 사용하는 방식대로 적용한 RLNC에서는 디코딩 실패가 발생하였고, X 구조에서 인코딩과 디코딩을 모두 수행하여 디코딩 실패를 제거한 RLNC는 전송 이득이 많지 않았다. 또한 본 논문에서는 hidden 노드 문제, 코딩 기회 분석, RLNC 오버헤드 등의 무선 환경에서 실제적인 고려사항을 분석해 보았다.

Regulatory Effects of Gamisamul-tang on Atopic Dermatitis Induced in the NC/Nga Mice

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of Gamisamul-tang (GSMT) on atopic dermatitis (AD). AD was induced in NC/Nga mutant mice by DNCB treatment. GSMT administration reduced levels of skin severity scores. Serum levels of IgE, IgG, IgM, and inflammatory cytokines including IL-4, IL-4 and 1L-13 were significantly decreased by GSMT treatment. Levels of mRNA's encoding IL-4, IL-6, IL-13, $TNF-{\alpha}$, and $interferon-{\gamma}$ in the dermal tissue and draining lymph node (DLN) by real time RT-PCR analysis showed decrease by GSMT testament. Moreover, the number of CD4+ and CD8+ cells was significantly decreased in the spleen and DLN tissues. Histological examination showed that infiltration levels of immune cells in ear, skin, and DLN of AD-induced NC/Nga mice were much improved by GSMT treatment. The present data suggest that GSMT may play an important role in recovering AD symptoms by regulating immune reactivity.

계층적 센서 네트워크에서 안전한 통신을 위한 키 갱신 프로토콜 (Key Update Protocols in Hierarchical Sensor Networks)

  • 센서 네트워크는 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경을 실현하기 위한 네트워크로 센싱 및 통신 능력으로 인간이 접근하기 어려운 다양한 곳에 설치되어 감시나 탐지 등을 통하여 데이터를 수집한다. 이러한 환경의 구현을 위하여 센서 네트워크에서 센서 노드가 수집한 데이터는 사용자에게 전달될 때 안전한 통신을 보장하기 위해 데이터의 암호화가 필요하다. 따라서 초소형, 빈번한 데이터 이동, 제한적인 계산 능력 및 저장 능력 그리고 배터리 전력 사용이라는 특성을 갖는 센서 노드에 알맞은 암호화를 위한 키 관리 구조가 요구된다. 본 논문은 계층 구조를 가진 센서 네트워크에 적합한 키 관리 메커니즘을 제안한다 센서 노드는 자신의 부모 노드에게 데이터를 전달하므로 모든 센서 노드에게 데이터를 보내는 기존의 방식보다 데이터 라우팅에 소모되는 에너지를 줄일 수 있다. 그리고 센서 노드는 각 계층에 따라 다른 능력을 가지고 있으며, 능력에 따라 센서 노드에게 다른 키 생성 프로토콜을 적용한다. 본 논문에서는 키 생성을 위한 정보를 공유하는 센서 노드의 수에 제한을 두어 키가 노출되었을 때 피해 범위를 줄인다. 또한 각 센서 노드는 키 갱신을 수행하여 새로운 키를 사용하며 효과적으로 안전한 데이터 암호화를 위하여 각 계층별로 다른 주기에 따른 키 갱신을 수행한다. 따라서 데이터를 보다 안전하게 암호화하며 효율적으로 키 갱신을 수행할 수 있다.

A Hadoop-based Multimedia Transcoding System for Processing Social Media in the PaaS Platform of SMCCSE

  • Previously, we described a social media cloud computing service environment (SMCCSE). This SMCCSE supports the development of social networking services (SNSs) that include audio, image, and video formats. A social media cloud computing PaaS platform, a core component in a SMCCSE, processes large amounts of social media in a parallel and distributed manner for supporting a reliable SNS. Here, we propose a Hadoop-based multimedia system for image and video transcoding processing, necessary functions of our PaaS platform. Our system consists of two modules, including an image transcoding module and a video transcoding module. We also design and implement the system by using a MapReduce framework running on a Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) and the media processing libraries Xuggler and JAI. In this way, our system exponentially reduces the encoding time for transcoding large amounts of image and video files into specific formats depending on user-requested options (such as resolution, bit rate, and frame rate). In order to evaluate system performance, we measure the total image and video transcoding time for image and video data sets, respectively, under various experimental conditions. In addition, we compare the video transcoding performance of our cloud-based approach with that of the traditional frame-level parallel processing-based approach. Based on experiments performed on a 28-node cluster, the proposed Hadoop-based multimedia transcoding system delivers excellent speed and quality.

텍스쳐 추출시 제한된 수의 참여 영상을 이용한 Multi-view 영상 개선 알고리듬 (An Algorithm for the Multi-view Image Improvement with the Resteicted Number of Images in Texture Extraction)

  • 본 논문에서는 텍스쳐 추출시 제한된 수의 참여 영상을 이용한 multi-view 영상으로부터 가장 좋은 텍스쳐를 추출하는 효과적인 알고리듬을 제안하였다. 기존의 알고리듬이 정규화된 물체 공간에서 X-Y 평면을 삼각패치로 나누고 아휜 변환에 기반한 변이 보상 모델을 이용하여 삼각패치의 텍스쳐를 추출하였다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 방법과 달리 텍스쳐 추출시 참여 영상의 수를 제한하여 multi-view 영상으로부터 가장 좋은 텍스쳐를 추출하였다. Dragon, santa, city 그리고 kid의 multi-view 영상세트에 대해 실험한 결과 제안된 알고리듬으로 텍스쳐를 추출한후 이로부터 복원된 영상의 신호 대 잡음비(SNR)는 기존의 알고리듬으로 처리된 후 복원된 영상의 신호 대 잡음비보다 평균 0.2dB 정도 개선된 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 제안된 방법으로 부호화된 데이터로부터 복원된 영상은 기존의 방법으로 부호화된 데이터로부터 복원된 영상보다 영상의 화질이 개선됨을 관찰할 수 있었다.

Characterization of the MicroRNA Expression Profile of Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma Metastases

  • Objectives: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are important regulators of many physiological and pathological processes, including tumorigenesis and metastasis. In this study, we sought to determine the underlying molecular mechanisms of metastatic cervical carcinoma by performing miRNA profiling. Methods: Tissue samples were collected from ten cervical squamous cancer patients who underwent hysterectomy and pelvic lymph node (PLN) dissection in our hospital, including four PLN-positive (metastatic) cases and six PLN-negative (non-metastatic) cases. A miRNA microarray platform with 1223 probes was used to determine the miRNA expression profiles of these two tissue types and case groups. MiRNAs having at least 4-fold differential expression between PLN-positive and PLN-negative cervical cancer tissues were bioinformatically analyzed for target gene prediction. MiRNAs with tumor-associated target genes were validated by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: Thirty-nine miRNAs were differentially expressed (>4-fold) between the PLN-positive and PLN-negative groups, of which, 22 were up-regulated and 17 were down-regulated. Sixty-nine percent of the miRNAs (27/39) had tumor-associated target genes, and the expression levels of six of those (miR-126, miR-96, miR-144, miR-657, miR-490-5p, and miR-323-3p) were confirmed by quantitative (q)RT-PCR. Conclusions: Six MiRNAs with predicted tumor-associated target genes encoding proteins that are known to be involved in cell adhesion, cytoskeletal remodeling, cell proliferation, cell migration, and apoptosis were identified. These findings suggest that a panel of miRNAs may regulate multiple and various steps of the metastasis cascade by targeting metastasis-associated genes. Since these six miRNAs are predicted to target tumor-associated genes, it is likely that they contribute to the metastatic potential of cervical cancer and may aid in prognosis or molecular therapy.
