In this paper, the numerical finite element formulations were derived for the linearized Navier-Stokes' equations with assumptions of two-dimensional incompressible, homogeneous viscous fluid field, and small oscillation and the FAMD (Fluid Added Mass and Damping) code was developed for practical applications calculating the fluid added mass and damping. In formulations, a fluid domain is discretized with C$\^$0/-type quadratic quadrilateral elements containing eight nodes using a mixed interpolation method, i.e., the interpolation function for the velocity variable is approximated by a quadratic function based on all eight nodal points and the interpolation function for the pressure variable is approximated by a linear function based on the four nodal points at vertices. Using the developed code, the various characteristics of the fluid added mass and damping are investigated for the concentric cylindrical shell and the actual hexagon arrays of the liquid metal reactor cores.
A nodal transport method based on the F$_{N}$ method is developed for the transport calculation in x- y geometry and tested for benchmark problems. Using transverse integration, the two-dimensional transport equation is converted to one-dimensional equations for x, y-directions and the one-dimensional equations are integrated over azimuthal angle. With proper approximations for the transverse leakage, the one-dimensional equations are discretized by using the F$_{N}$ method without truncation error. At present, isotropic approximation of the transverse with a quadratic or flat shape in spatial variable is tested.ted.
We have extended the source projection analytic nodal discrete ordinates method (SPANDOM) for more flexible applicability in analysis of hexagonal assembly cores. The method (SPANDOM-FH) does not invoke transverse integration but instead solves the discrete ordinates equation analytically after the source term is projected and represented in hybrid form of high-order polynomials and exponential functions. SPANDOM-FH which treats a hexagonal node as one node is applied to two fast reactor benchmark problems and compared with TWOHEX. The results of comparison indicate that the present method SPANDOM-FH predicts accurately $k_eff$ and flux distributions in hexagonal assembly cores. In addition, SPANDOM-FH gives the continuous two dimensional intranodal scalar flux distributions in a hexagonal node. The reentering models between TWOHEX and SPANDOM were also compared and it was confirmed that SPANDOM's model is more realistic. Through the results of benchmark problems, we conclude that SPANDOM-FH has the sufficient accuracy for the nuclear design of fast breeder reactor (FBR) cores with hexagonal assemblies.
The nonlinear analytic function expansion nodal (AFEN) method is applied to the solution of the time-dependent neutron diffusion equation. Since the AFEN method requires both the particular solution and the homogeneous solution to the transient fixed source problem, the derivation solution method is focused on finding the particular solution efficiently. To avoid complicated particular solutions, the source distribution is approximated by quadratic polynomials and the transient source is constructed such that the error due to the quadratic approximation is minimized. In addition, this paper presents a new two-node solution scheme that is derived by imposing the constraint of current continuity at the interface corner points. The method is verified through a series of applications to the NEACRP PWR rod ejection benchmark problem.

In this paper, we employ a dynamics modeling method for investigating a multi-body dynamics system of semi-submersible autonomous underwater vehicles consisting of a towing vehicle operated near the water surface, a tow cable, and a towfish. The towfish, which is towed by a marine cable for the purposes of exploration or mine hunting, is modeled with a Six-Degree-of-Freedom (6-DOF) equation of motion that reflects its hydrodynamics characteristics. The towing cable, which can experience large displacements and deformations, is modeled using an absolute nodal coordinate formulation. To reflect the hydrodynamic characteristics of the cable during motion, the hydrodynamic force due to added mass and the drag force are imposed. To verify the completeness of the modeling, a few simple numerical simulations were conducted, and the results confirm the physical plausibility of the model.
The response statistics of a hinged-clamped beam under broad-band random excitation is investigated. The random excitation is applied at the nodal point of the second mode. By using Galerkin's method the governing equation is reduced to a system of nonautonomous nonlinear ordinary differential equations. A method based upon the Markov vector approach is used to generate a general first-order differential equation in the dynamic moment of response coordinates. By means of the Gaussian and non-Gaussian closure methods the dynamic moment equations for the random responses of the system are reduced to a system of autonomous ordinary differential equations. The case of two mode interaction is considered in order to compare it with the case of three mode interaction. The analytical results for two and three mode interactions are also compared with results obtained by Monte Carlo simulation.
In the electric railway systems, it is very important that we should design the system configuration, location and power capacity of substation. This paper presents the results of system configuration and system design of the DC traction power supply for the test line of Light Rail Vehicle. The voltage fluctuation of train and the power capacity of substation are calculated by computer simulation using the nodal equation, K.C.L/K.V.L, Ohm's law and superposition theory.
Computer algorithms for the loadflow of the DC traction power supply system are examined. Algorithms to solve the nodal equation are reviewed and the two iterative methods to solve the nonlinear nature of the loadflow are analyzed and tested, which are so called conductance matrix method and current vector iterative mettled. The result of the analysis tells that the current vector iterative method makes faster convergency and needs less computing time, and it is verified by the test running of the programs based on each of the iterative methods.
The BEM, known as solving boundary value problems, could have some advantages In solving domain problems which are mostly solved by FEM and FDM. Lately, in the elastic-plastic nonlinear problems, BEM could provide the subdomain approach for the region where the plastic deformation could occur and the unknown nodal displacement of this region are added as the unknown of the boundary integral equation for this approach. In this paper, initial stress method was used to establish the formulation of such BEM approach. And a simple rectangular plate having a circular hole was analyzed to verify the suggested method and the result is compared with that from FEM. It is shown that the result of two methods are showing similar stress-strain curves at the root of perforated plate and furthermore the plastic deformation obtained by BEM shows more reasonable behavior than that of FEM.
