  • The study was conducted to investigate the changes of soil physico-chemical properties between soils of preplanting fields and 2 years old ginseng fields, and compare the missing plant rate among the 2 years 016 ginseng fields. 1, The missing plant rate of 2 years old ginseng was high in sand loam while low in clay loam soil texture, soil porosity and NO3-N were remarkably increased in 2 years old ginseng field than preplanting soil, as the clay content was increased, soil porosity seemed to be increased but exchangeable nitrogen decreased. 2. The preplanting soil management methods did not significantly influenced on the missing plant rate and soil porosity in 2 years old ginseng fields, However NO3-N content and Fusarium density seemed to be decreased as the plow frequency was increased, exchangeable nitrogen content, whereas, seemed to be increased with more organic matter. 3. Differences of clay content (below 15% and above 20% of clay content) was significantly influenced on soil porosity, bulk density, total nitrogen, organic matter and P2O5 content. 4, Missing rate showed negative correlation with clay, soil moisture, and organic matter content but positive corelation with NO3-N in 2 years old ginseng fields.

  • The present study was to investigate the growth response and nutrient absorption in three willow species (Salix gracilistyla, S. koreensis and S. chaenomeloides) treated with nitrogen source (NH4+:NO3- rate; 200:0, 150:50, 100:100, 50:150, 200:0) for a period of 90days. The height, dry weight and chlorophyll contents of three species of willows were found to be highest at 50:150 (NH4+:NO3-) treatment. NO3--N was more effective than NH4+-N in the early growth of three species of willows. The increase in percentage of NO3--N handling, T-N, NO3--N in plant tissue increased. The analysis of C, N and mineral content in various parts revealed that the amounts of C, N, K, Ca and Mg were higher in leaves than those in the stems and the roots. However, the amount of NO3--N and P were higher in roots than those in the leaves and the stems. Salix koreensis was excellent, followed by S. chaenomeloides and S. gracilistyla in absorption of nitrate nitrogen. Higher percentage of NO3--N, the amounts of T-N, NO3--N, P2O5, K, Na, Ca, and pH in soil were decreased.

  • The effect of hydrophilic surface modification of low density polyethylene(LDPE) byt the plasma gas($O_2$, $N_2$, and $O_2/N_2$) was investigated from the point of view of the functionalities of the generated LDPE surfaces and the contact angle. By virtue of x-ray photoelectron spectra(XPS) and attenuated total reflectance(FT-IR ATR) analysis, the LDPE surfaces treated with plasma were generated with oxygen functionalities of carbonyl, carboxyl, and the like, nitrogen functionalities by nitrogen plasma and mixing of nitrogen and oxygen plasma treatment were identified with. It was found that nitrogen plasma treatment showed with minimum value at contact angle for rf-power and treatment time, we had obtained optimum condition for hydrophilic surface modification at composite parameter, [(W/FM)t] 520~550GJs/kg.

  • Symptoms of potassium deficiency were studied with flue-cured tobacco (N.C 2326) which had been applied with several levels of nitrogen and potassium fertilizer at 7, 10, and 13 Kg N/10a, and 15, 20, and $25KgK_2O/10a$, respectively. The distributions of T-N, $NH_4-N, \;NO_3-N$, and K contents in 18 leaves from the bottom to the top stalk position were investigated at 63 days after transplanting. The T-N content in the different stalk positions was increased from the bottom to the top ; however, vice versa in K content. As increasing the application levels, the increasing rate of the T-N content in the different leaf fractions were similar to those of rib and laminae. On the contrary, the rates of K content in the rib were higher then that of laminae and in the bottom than the top stalk position. Those indicated that the unbalance of nitrogen and potassium contents in the leaves came to maximum in the laminae of the top stalk position and was possibly affected by the application level of nitrogen rather than potassium. The T-N content in the laminae was higher than that of the rib. However the K and $NO_3$-N contents in the laminae were significantly lower than those of the rib. Therefore the $K^+$ uptake by tobacco was thought to be accompanied with $NO_3$- and transported smoothly up to the rib, but not from the rib to the laminae where assimilation materials were accumulated. Distribution of inorganic components in the different positions of vegetative organ were also investigated at 60 days after transplanting. The T-N and $P_2O_5$ contents were in order as; top > middle> bottom of the stalk and the stalk position, and laminae > vein > midrib of leaf fraction, however vice versa in K content of the stalk position and leaf fraction. In addition distributions of CaO and MgO contents in the each leaf fraction were resemble to that of the T-N content. On the contrary, the distributions of the CaO and MgO contents in the different stalk positions were similar to that of the K content.

  • Inductively-coupled $N_2$O plasma was utilized to grow silicon dioxide at low temperature and applied to fabricate polycrystalline-silicon thin film transistors. At $400^{\circ}C$, the thickness of oxide was limited to 5nm and the oxide contained Si≡N and ≡Si-N-Si≡ bonds. The nitrogen incorporation improved breakdown field to 10MV/cm and reduced the interface charge density to $1.52$\times$10^{11}$ $cm^2$ with negative charge. The $N_2$O plasma gate oxide enhanced the field effect mobility of polycrystalline thin film transistor, compared to $O_2$ plasma gate oxide, due to the reduced interface charge at the $Si/SiO_2$ interface and also due to the reduced trap density at Si grain boundaries by nitrogen passivation.

  • In this study, the optimal operation parameters of MLE(Modified Ludzack-Ettinger) process treating the liquid supernatant separated from the slurry excreta of swine feedlot was studied as a promising biological treatment process. The nitrogen removal characteristics with different volume ratio between nitrification and denitrification reactor and the operational effect with different nitrogen loading rate, and different C/N($COD_{Cr}/TKN$) ratio were investigated. Based on the laboratory results, pilot MLE plant was operated to examine the effect of ambient temperature for five months including winter. The denitrification reactor which is 20% of total volume was proposed as the most optimal volume fraction for nitrification and denitrification. The optimum ratios of F/M and $F_N/M$ were increased with increase of the C/N ratio. However, optimum F/M ratio was changed more rapidly than $F_N/M$ ratio with increase of the C/N ratio. Therefore, MLE process is desirable to be controlled by F/M ratio in the range of high C/N ratio and by $F_N/M$ ratio in the range of low C/N ratio. Pilot MLE plant showed the higher removal efficiencies of COD and TKN in winter than in summer and was operated most stably at the temperature of $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ for mixed liqour.

  • In the study, the effects of elevated $CO_2$ and temperature on the photosynthetic characteristics, chlorophyll content, nitrogen content, carbon content, and C/N ratio of Phytolacca insularis and Phytolacca americana were examined under control (ambient $CO_2+$ ambient temperature) and treatment (elevated $CO_2+$ elevated temperature) for 2 years (2008 and 2009). The photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate and water use efficiency of two plant species were higher under the treatment than the under the control. The stomatal conductance of P. insularis was higher under the control, but that of P. americana was not significantly affected by $CO_2$ and temperature under the treatment. The chlorophyll contents of two species were decreased about 72.5% and 20%, respectively, by elevated $CO_2$ and temperature. The nitrogen contents of two species were not significantly altered by increase in $CO_2$ and temperature. The carbon contents of the two species were higher under the treatment than under the control. The C/N ratio of P. insularis was higher under the treatment but that of P. americana was not significantly affected by $CO_2$ and temperature. These results demonstrated that the physiological responses of P. insularis native plants might be more sensitively influenced by a $CO_2$-mediated global warming situation than those of the P. americana invasive plants.

  • In this study, granular sludge used in an anaerobic process treating brewery waste was inoculated in a laboratory scale of reactor to induce anaerobic ammonium oxidation(ANAMMOX). The reactor was operated with synthetic wastewater, which prepared at 1:1 ratio of $NH_4^+-N$ over $NO_2^--N$. Changes in nitrogen concentration, COD, alkalinity and gas production were analyzed. There are 3 phases of spanning in experimental period according to influent nitrogen concentration. In the Phase 1, each of the concentration of $NH_4^+-N$ and $NO_2^--N$ were increased from 1.91 $gN/m^3{\cdot}d$ to 14.29 $gN/m^3{\cdot}d$. Ammonium nitrogen loading(same as nitrite nitrogen) was 23.81 $gN/m^3{\cdot}d$ in the Phase 2 and 19.05 $gN/m^3{\cdot}d$ in the Phase 3, respectively $NO_2^--N$ has been removed up to 99% during whole period while the removal efficiency of $NH_4^+-N$ was significantly varied. In Phase 2, $NH_4^+-N$ was removed up to 75%. Microorganisms varied temporally through three phases were characterized by 16s rDNA analysis methods. ANAMMOX bacteria were dominantly found in phase 2 when the removal rate of $NO_2^--N$and $NH_4^+-N$ was the highest up to 99% and 75%, respectively. Due to erroneous exposed to air, the removal efficiency of $NH_4^+-N$ was unexpectedly lowered, but ANAMMOX bacteria still existed.

  • Nitrifier consortium immobilized in Ca and Ba-alginate beads were packed into two bioreactors and the performances of bioreactors were evaluated for the removal of ammonia nitrogen from synthetic aquaculture water. The total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) concentration of the influent was continually kept about 2g TAN/㎥. At the HRT of 0.6hr, ammonia nitrogen removal rate of two bioreactors were about 52.6 and 51.0g TAN/$\textrm{m}^3$/day, respectively. At the respect of ammonia nitrogen removal, two bioreactor showed the similar abilities. The second trial with nitrifier consortium immobilized in Ca-alginate bead was carried out to evaluate the ammonia nitrogen removal rate for 35 days. The highest ammonia nitrogen removal rate was 82g TAN/$\textrm{m}^3$ when HRT was about 0.3hr.
