  • Seawater batteries are next-generation secondary batteries that use seawater as a cathode. They utilize marine resources to provide competitive prices, high eco-friendliness, and a structure suitable for marine applications. Based on these advantages, pouch types and prismatic types have been studied and developed assuming natural seawater exposure. However, because of the electrical characteristics of the secondary battery, its capacity and internal resistance vary depending on the use environment. These characteristics are not only utilized for predicting the life of a battery but also have a direct effect on the capacity and power suitable for a specific situation. Therefore, the internal resistance was analyzed in this study by measuring the capacity depending on the seawater battery use environment and the state-of-charge-open-circuit-voltage measurement method.

  • Virtual reality seems to be the center of the next generation platform, which is founded on various engines that can easily make device progress and content. However, the interaction between virtual reality contents and users is thought of as relatively requiring technological advances. In this paper, we propose a technique to improve the interaction technique based on the case of Virtual Figure Model Crafting (VFMC) to analyze the problem of interaction caused by virtual reality contents. We introduced the concept of Head-Up Display (HUD) to present a more natural interaction method. The HUD is the digital visual interface of the aircraft. The advantage of HUD visual interface is to minimizes the user's visual movement by displaying the information of the scattered view to the forward direction of the pilot. In other words, we can reduce unnecessary left and right movements that make it is possible to expect an effect of reducing fatigue and increasing immersion.

  • Issues relating to business inheritance are a primary focus for business owners. Business inheritance is critical to ensuring that the business can be managed by the next generation and family members can benefit from the earnings and revenues. Therefore, preliminary planning must be done while the business owner is still alive by selecting the appropriate business inheritance mechanism for Muslims in Malaysia. The mechanisms of business inheritance, notably faraid, hibah, amanah, and hibah amanah will be examined in this paper from both a civil and Islamic perspective. By reviewing written journals and previous research, this research utilizes the library method. According to this study, business succession can be carried out by naming a beneficiary as a partner in the company or by completing the ownership transfer process while the owner is still living. In the other situation, it can be done by anyone among the heirs agreeing to re-register the business as usual. Meanwhile, there are four main instruments in Islamic law that can be used: faraid, hibah, amanah, and commercial hibah. According to this study, each instrument has a different impact on business succession. Entrepreneurs should use these instruments in their firm succession planning.

  • Importance of accurate molecular diagnosis and quantification of particular disease-related pathogenic microorganisms is highlighted as an introductory step to prevent and care for diseases. In this study, we designed a primer/probe set for quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) targeting rgpA gene, known as the specific virulence factor of periodontitis-related pathogenic bacteria 'Porphyromonas gingivalis', and evaluated its diagnostic efficiency by detecting and quantifying relative bacterial load of P. gingivalis within saliva samples collected from clinical subjects. As a result of qRT-PCR, we confirmed that relative bacterial load of P. gingivalis was detected and quantified within all samples of positive control and periodontitis groups. On the contrary, negative results were confirmed in both negative control and healthy groups. Additionally, as a result of comparison with next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based 16S metagenome profiling data, we confirmed relative bacterial load of P. gingivalis, which was not identified on bacterial classification table created through 16S microbiome analysis, in qRT-PCR results. It showed that an approach to quantifying specific microorganisms by applying qRT-PCR method could solve microbial misclassification issues at species level of an NGS-based 16S microbiome study. In this respect, we suggest that P. gingivalis-specific primer/probe set introduced in present study has efficient applicability in various oral healthcare industries, including periodontitis-related microbial molecular diagnosis field.

  • Ceramic materials have excellent material properties such as stability at high temperatures, chemical stability, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance, so they are applicable even in extreme environments of high temperature and pressure. In particular, silicon carbide can be applied in the field of structural ceramics due to its characteristics of high strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, and heat resistance even at high temperatures. In this study, considering the application of silicon carbide materials to next-generation turbines, silicon carbide materials were manufactured using a liquid phase sintering method. When manufacturing liquid phase sintered silicon carbide, sintering additives were added to lower the sintering temperature and densify the material. In Al2O3-SiO2, it was confirmed that the secondary product of the sintering additive was observed as a slightly dark area and was evenly distributed overall, and the fracture surface of Al2O3-SiO2 was in the form of transgranular fracture in which cracks progressed along the crystal plane, and the flexural strength for Al2O3-SiO2 was about 445.6 MPa.

  • Two-dimensional (2D) RuO2 nanosheets with nanometer thickness were synthesized using a chemical exfoliation method. The synthesized 2D-RuO2 was hybridized with Ag-nanowire (NW), which is attracting attention as a next-generation transparent electrode material. After coating Ag-NW on the substrate, 2D-RuO2 was subsequently coated on the Ag-NW. Although there was a decrease in optical transmittance, the hybridization of 2D-RuO2 confirmed the effect of reducing sheet resistance. Furthermore, the flexibility of the fabricated transparent electrodes was also studied. It was confirmed by the change in sheet resistance after bending. The additional coating of 2D-RuO2 improved the flexibility of the transparent electrodes.

  • Citrus yellow vein clearing virus (CYVCV) is a member of the Alphaflexiviridae family that causes yellow vein clearing symptoms on citrus leaves. A total of 118 leaf samples from nine regions of six provinces in Korea were collected from various citrus species in 2020 and 2021. Viral diagnosis using next-generation sequencing and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) identified four viruses: citrus tristeza virus, citrus leaf blotch virus, citrus vein enation virus, and CYVCV. A CYVCV incidence of 9.3% was observed in six host plants, including calamansi, kumquat, Persian lime, and Eureka lemon. Among the citrus infected by CYVCV, only three samples showed a single infection; the other showed a mixed infection with other viruses. Eureka lemon and Persian lime exhibited yellow vein clearing, leaf distortion, and water-soak symptom underside of the leaves, while the other hosts showed only yellowing symptoms on the leaves. The complete genome sequences were obtained from five CYVCV isolates. Comparison of the isolates reported from the different geographical regions and hosts revealed the high sequence identity (95.2% to 98.8%). Phylogenetic analysis indicated that all the five isolates from Korea were clustered into same clade but were not distinctly apart from isolates from China, Pakistan, India, and Türkiye. To develop an efficient diagnosis system for the four viruses, a simultaneous detection method was constructed using multiplex RT-PCR. Sensitivity evaluation, simplex RT-PCR, and stability testing were conducted to verify the multiplex RT-PCR system developed in this study. This information will be useful for developing effective disease management strategies for citrus growers in Korea.

  • As the production process for silicon-based integrated circuits approaches physical limits, a lot of attention is focused on the new semiconductor materials to overcome these problems. Carbon NanoTubes(CNTs) are attracting a lot of interest as one of the most competitive materials with excellent electrical transport and scaling properties, and CNTFETs using CNTs are gaining popularity as next-generation semiconductor devices. However, since the technology to place CNTs in a certain direction and interval on the wafer is not yet mature enough, it is difficult to construct all necessary circuits with CNTFET only. So, there is increasing interest in a hybrid configuration using MOSFET and CNTFET together. Because SRAM plays a role as a cache in microprocessors and is a critical circuit block influencing microprocessor performance, research to implement existing SRAM in a hybrid form is steadily progressing. Therefore, in this paper, we will explain the design method of hybrid 8T SRAM based on the existing hybrid 6T SRAM and discuss the performance difference between the two circuits.

  • Since the IFLA FRBR conceptual model, the transition to a data structure centered on entity-relationships has been underway. Reflecting this international trend, the draft of the 5th edition of the Korean Cataloging Rules (KCR5) were presented in May 2024. This study focused on the 'relationship' which provides additional information to users by connecting one entity with other entities. To this end, (1) the types of relationships between entities defined in the conceptual model and RDA cataloging rule were examined, (2) the actual cases of LC and PCC to record relationships in MARC21 based on RDA were analyzed, and finally (3) practical methods and challenges to be solved for applying them to KORMARC format were suggested. This study mainly utilized RDA training materials and data input guidelines of LC/PCC, and referred to full-MARC bibliographic records and authority records of LC and PCC participating libraries. This study aims to broaden the understanding of the new bibliographic structure and to prepare for the transition to the next-generation bibliographic structure such as BIBFRAME in the future.

  • Despite their initial commercialization, CdTe-based materials are continuously being developed. However, an approach for obtaining the X-ray response with a current-mode CdMnTeSe (CMTS) detector remains to be explored. This study investigated the feasibility of using CMTS as a potential material in diagnostic X-ray detectors. The CMTS crystals were grown using the Bridgman method and treated with a radiation detector. The X-ray response of the CMTS detector was evaluated under various conditions, including tube voltage, tube current, and bias voltage. In addition, the mass attenuation coefficients of CdTe-based materials, including CMTS, were investigated. Our results demonstrated that CMTS exhibited promising properties for diagnostic X-ray detection, with stable and linear responses across various tube voltages and currents. In addition, the calculated sensitivity of the CMTS detector increased at higher bias voltages, demonstrating its practical applicability. However, problems such as signal loss were observed at higher dose rates, suggesting the need for further optimization of the CMTS growth techniques. Overall, this study indicated the requirement for further improvement in the CMTS crystal properties; however, the potential of CMTS as a candidate material for the next generation of diagnostic X-ray detectors was evident.
