청대 시각적 교육매체로서의 연화 (New Year Picture, a Visual Educational Medium in the Qing Dynasty)

  • New year pictures prevailed from 1660s to 1860. Especially, the reign period of Emperor Qianlong(r. 1736-1795) was the period of prosperity. The period of 1660s when new year pictures were started to be popular was the reign period of Emperor Kangxi(r. 1662-1722) was just started and corresponded to Emperor Kangxi's promulgation of "Sacred Edict." Chinese operas such as Peking opera were very popular among common people in the period from 1660s to 1860 when new year pictures prevailed. Qing emperors as foreign ruler chose the way of ruling their people by means of cultural influence in stead of military power. However their culture effort was not efficient toward the majority of illiterate people. New year pictures offered every information about the world through visual icons to the illiterate people at that time who perceived the world by means of seeing. They met the world through visual information offered by new year pictures. New year pictures were the stronger visual medium to spread and educate "Sacred Edict" to illiterate subjects than any other guide books published by elite officers.

Research on the Chinese Opera-Themed Woodcut New Year Pictures in Yangjiabu from the Perspective of Cultural Studies

  • Chinese Opera-themed woodcut New Year pictures in Yangjiabu are representative of Chinese New Year pictures. This research takes cultural research as a breakthrough point, analyzes and combs its Context, Representation, Coding & Decoding, and finds that: After the imitation and restatement of traditional Chinese opera, the opera-themed woodcut New Year pictures have formed a dynamic intertextual relationship with Chinese culture and traditional Chinese opera. The understanding of this intertextual relationship is not only an important way to study Chinese folk art but also one of the ideas to show the aesthetic spirit of it.

반 고우스트 텔레비젼 수신 안테나 연구 (A Study on an Anti-ghost Television Receiving Antenna)

  • 본연구는 서부휴전선이북에서 발생되고 있는 잡음파에도 불구 KBS텔레비젼방송의 양호한 시청을 보장하는 안테나를 얻기 위하여 시작되었으며 약 1년에 걸친 연구를 통하여 마침내 전후방비가 30dB정도일뿐 아니라 그 side lobe love 이 -3OdB 이하가 되는 안테나의 개발에 성공하였다. 이 안테나는 VHF TV의 고채널군 전체를 카바하기에 마땅하다고 생각되는 대수주기형으로 제작되었으며 이 안테나를 사용하는 경우 안테나의 후방에서 오는 잡음전파나 반사파에 의해서 수상이 방해되거나 고우스트 즉 2중화면이 나타나는 현상이 현저하게 개선된다는 것이 현지시경의 결과 확인되었다. 이 안테나는 또한 전 side lobe level이 매우 낮음으로써 그 이득이 높으며 TV 가시청지역 확대와 난시청범위의 축소에 그만큼 기여한 것으로 기대된다. This research was started to develop a VHF television antenna which secures good pictures in spite of the disturbance from tile rear side. In a year of research, an antenna which front to banck ratio is gyrator than 30dB and whose side lobe level is smaller than -30dB alas been developed. This new antenna was designed log-periodically for the sake of wide frequency bandwidth which is necessary to cover all tile high channel. And it was found having characteristics of anti-interference against the disturbance wave from tole behind, and anti-ghosts from the reflected waves. Furthermore, the gain of this new antenna is reasonablly high, because of its low side lobe level. After all, the developed antenna is silpposcd to increace the service area considervably and to improve the TV receiving certainly.

베트남 민화연구 서설 (An Introduction to Vietnamese Folk Paintings)

  • This paper offers a brief introduction to Vietnamese folk paintings. The discussion compares Vietnamese folk paintings with the Korean folk painting tradition. Among the main purposes of this paper is the exploration of directions for future research on Vietnamese folk paintings. Vietnamese folk paintings, although extensively influenced by their Chinese tradition of minjian nianhua (folk New Year pictures), form an independent tradition, reflecting the local lifestyle and religious practices of Vietnam. However, compared to Korea or Japan, China remains the dominant source of influence for Vietnamese folk paintings. They were either created using a combination of painting and woodblock printing techniques, which was also the case with minjian nianhua, or using multicolor woodblock printing techniques. In cities like Hang Chong, the combination of painting and woodblock printing techniques was used mainly, following the customary practice in Yangliuqing in Tianjin, China, in which colors were added to the drawing printed from the woodblock. Meanwhile, folk paintings produced in rural areas such as Dong Ho are wholly color woodblock prints, similar to minjian nianhua from Yangjiabu in Weifang. In Lang Sinh, simple drawings, intended for casual purposes, were also created using the combination of woodblock printing and painting techniques. Folk paintings produced in cities and rural areas were distinct from each other, not just in techniques, but also in terms of style and theme. Vietnamese folk paintings show a certain degree of thematic similarity with Joseon folk paintings. This is mainly due to the fact that the two countries' folk paintings developed and evolved in parallel with their Chinese counterparts, minjian nianhua. Also noteworthy is the fact that Vietnamese folk paintings, while they share the simplicity and candidness of Joseon folk paintings, are at the same time somewhat more decorative than the latter. For best results, future research on Vietnamese folk paintings should be conducted together with research on minjian nianhua. Traditional pigments constitute an important area of research in this field. Attention should be also paid to the religious paintings of ethnic minorities in Vietnam, as they are discovered in the future.

Development of Web-Based Experiments for Undergraduate Mechatronics Education

  • In engineering education practical experiments is very important for each student, but due to the limitation of time and available resources such as laboratory equipment, space and instructors enough hands-on real experiments could not be provided to all students enrolled in the program throughout the academic year. In this sense web-based remote experiments through internet become a solution for engineering education and an emerging new paradigm for students and teachers. This paper presents the development of the web-based remote vibration experiment system for mechatronics education. Students can access this experimental equipment through an internet and conduct vibration experiment remotely without any restriction on time and place. IP address for data communication and web-service are assigned in local computer and then students receive experimental results and the captured pictures using network. The developed system provides real-time feedback of the tested results. Ubiquitous access to the system gained popularity from students.

전천 카메라 영상을 이용한 자동 운량 분석 (Development of Objective Algorithm for Cloudiness using All-Sky Digital Camera)

  • The cloud amount, one of the basic parameter in atmospheric observation, have been observed by naked eyes of observers, which is affected by the subjective view. In order to ensure reliable and objective observation, a new algorithm to retrieve cloud amount was constructed using true color images composed of red, green and blue (RGB). The true color image is obtained by the Skyview, an all-sky imager taking pictures of sky, at the Science Building of Yonsei University, Seoul for a year in 2006. The principle of distinguishing clear sky from cloudy sky lies in the fact that the spectral characteristics of light scattering is different for air molecules and cloud. The result of Skyview's algorithm showed about 77% agreement between the observed cloud amount and the calculated, for the error range, the difference between calculated and observed cloudiness, within ${\pm}2$. Seasonally, the best accuracy of about 83% was obtained within ${\pm}2$ range in summer when the cloud amounts are higher, thus better signal-to-noise ratio. Furthermore, as the sky turbidity increased, the error also increased because of increased scattering which can explain the large error in spring. The algorithm still need to be improved in classifying sky condition more systematically with other complimentary instruments to discriminate thin cloud from haze to reduce errors in detecting clouds.

  • Trompe l'Oeil technique strategically conceived with a view to effectively realize creative ideas among the expression techniques of fine arts style has provided the driving force in development of fine arts and has continuously influenced development of the modem fashion pursuing unique individuality. The study is focused first on finding out how Trompe l'Oeil technique originated in connection with researching the fashion of Trompe l'Oeil and on analysing the technique of expression. The author referred to fashion magazines for designing ideas of Trompe l'Oeil represented in modem fashion in practical applications used by designers in Paris, Italy, London and New York during the 10 year period(1990-1999). The collections of data were analyzed as following: Effectiveness depending on the method of Trompe l'Oeil I. Effectiveness of Layering: when two clothing are over lapped or coordinated with one another in color or style. 2. Effectiveness of Detailing: when pictures, stitch, tape, cutting, quilting and etc are used to create collar, pocket, yoke, zipper, string, shadow and etc. 3. Effectiveness of Accessories: when the image of necklace, belt, tie, tassel, badges and stars are represented by illustration or embroidery on clothing to substitute the actual existence. 4. Effectiveness of Nudity: when human body is realistically drawn and printed on clothing.

얼굴 인식 성능 향상을 위한 재분류 방법 (Re-classifying Method for Face Recognition)

  • 최근 생체인식에 대한 관심이 증가하면서 출입 통제나 사용자 인증과 같은 보안 분야에 적용이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 특히 얼굴인식은 생체인식 기술 중 사용자 편의성과 접촉 거부감이 적어 활용성이 증대되고 있으나 타 인식기술에 비해 인식 결과의 정확성과 재시도율(Re-attempt Rate)에 취약한 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위해 데이터 분류 방법(Data Classification Algorithm)으로 인식 결과를 재분류(Re-Classification)하는 접근법에 대해서 제안하고자 한다. 본 실험을 위해서 대표적인 형상 기반(Appearance-based) 알고리즘인 PCA를 사용하였고, 200명(총 얼굴 영상 200장)을 대상으로 제안한 재분류 접근법을 적용한 결과 재인식의 경우 성능이 향상되었음을 확인하였다.

에니어그램을 통한 만화 캐릭터 성격연구 (To analyze character's personality by using Enneagram)

  • 스토리가 있는 문화 콘텐츠 분야에서 캐릭터는 스토리를 이끌어 가는데 중요한 역할을 한다. 특히 만화는 글과 그림의 구성이기에 캐릭터의 중요성은 더 부각될 수밖에 없다. 캐릭터를 분석하는 방식에는 여러 가지가 있으나 본 논문에서는 에니어그램을 활용 하였다. 에니어그램은 사람을 9가지 성격으로 분류하는 성격 유형 지표이자 인간이해의 틀로써 2001년에 표준화를 거친 한국형 에니어그램 성격유형검사(KEPTI)가 정식으로 출판되었다. 만화 속 캐릭터의 성격을 에니어그램의 유형을 통해 장르와 역할에 따라 분석함으로써 에니어그램을 통한 만화 캐릭터 분석 방식을 활용 할 수 있는 기반을 갖추는데 그 의미가 있다. 에니어그램을 활용하여 만화 캐릭터의 성격을 도표를 통해 분류함으로써 만화 속 캐릭터의 성격 유형을 보다 파악하기 쉽게 하였다. 또한 만화 캐릭터를 인물의 역할과 장르에 따라 에니어그램으로 분석함으로써 역할과 장르에 적합한 캐릭터 유형을 파악하였다. 에니어그램이 모든 캐릭터의 성격 유형을 대변할 수는 없겠지만 캐릭터를 창조하는 창조자에게 캐릭터를 설정하는데 하나의 모델로 작은 도움이 될 수 있기를 바란다.

장 폴 골티에(Jean Paul Gaultier)의 작품에 표현된 해체주의 경향 - $2001\sim2006$년을 중심으로 - (The Deconstruction Trend Expressed in the Works of Jean Paul Gaultier - Focused on Designs from 2001 to 2006 -)

  • This paper examines the works produced from 2000, the first year of the new millenium, to the late 2006 with a focus on those of Jean Paul Gaultier, a representative designer of deconstruction, in an effort to determine the aesthetic characters of deconstructional fashion. In this context, this paper deals with the theoretical study on the concepts and features of deconstruction as a part of analysis into its fashion using the works of Gaultier as a major source viewed to typically demonstrate the deconstructional characters of fashion. For this purpose, a survey was conducted to 155 works of Gaultier featured from 2001 to 2006 mostly in Vogue, the popular and influencing magazine of the USA(39 pieces in 2001, 30 in 2002, 29 in 2003, 23 in 2004, 12 in 2005 and 22 in 2006, respectively). In particular, 106 fashion pictures were put to analysis as they seemed to represent deconstruction intensively. The deconstructional characters of his works were examined in the categories of difference, inter-meaning, inter-textuality and decomposition on the basis of preceding studies, which resulted in the following outcomes: First, difference was found in 38 works out of 106 images, accounting for 36%, the biggest frequency; Second, inter-meaning accounted for 33% with 35 pieces, most frequently next to difference; Third, inter-textuality followed inter-meaning with 17 images or 15% in terms of frequency; Fourth, decomposition was revealed in 16 images in the same ratio of 15% as inter-textuality.
