사회환경교육의 새로운 패러다임 모색: 심층생태론의 관점에서 (Towards a Paradigm Shift in Social Environmental Education: From the Deep Ecological Perspective)

  • The main goal of this paper is to suggest a new path to new ecological paradigm in social environmental education. The old paradigm of environmental education consists of two elements. The first element is emphasis on the seriousness and urgency of environmental problems while the second one is the presentation of concrete action programs as solutions of environmental problems. The missing point of this paradigm is the internal process of meaning construction of actors. Any kind of social action must be based on the meaning which the actors gives to their own action. Becoming an environmentally conscious actor, therefore, actor himself needs to interpret the world from the new perspective. In this paper, we call the change of worldview in the deepest sense 'conversion'. Ecological conversion means shift from anthropocentrism to ecocentrism. In the following sections, main characteristics of ecological world view are specified and some examples of ecological confessions which reveal ecological world view are presented. In this last section, 7 ways of lifestyle change which can facilitate ecological conversion are suggested: 1) trying to be alone for a while everyday; 2) making peaceful state of mind; 3) sharpening the 'green sensitivity'; 4) creating slow way of life; 5) choosing voluntary simplicity; 6)raising spirituality; 7) practicing sharing and caring. Social environmental education in the new ecological paradigm could be considered as a starting point towards a civilizational shift from the dominant materialist civilization to the post-material ecological civilization.

새로운 물 환경 개념에서 본 우리 물 산업 선도기업의 조건 (The Paradigm-Shift in Water Environment for Future Korean Water Industry)

  • Since the first sewage treatment plant had been in operation in 1976, the Korean water industry was in the logarithmic growing stage corresponded with the country's rapid economic expansion up to late 1990's. Unfortunately, however, the current industry status seems to require not only new paradigm for water environment but the development of new growth engine, since there are various warning signals for stalling growth from the field engineers to policy makers. Because of sharing of the awareness, the Korean government recently launched an ambitious development policy for water industry. This paper describes the new paradigm-shift in water environment in view point of the water as renewable resources. Based on the new paradigm, it has been suggested the prerequisite conditions to meet for the development of a new Korean water industry.

국립공원(國立公園) 방문객(訪問客)의 자연환경태도(自然環境態度) 측정(測定) : New Environmental Paradigm의 적용(適用) (Measuring the Environmental Attitudes for National Park Visitors : Application of New Environmental Paradigm)

  • 본 연구는 현재 우리나라에 지정된 20개 국립공원 가운데, 설악산, 가야산, 내장산, 북한산, 태안해안, 한려해상국립공원 등 6개 국립공원의 방문객을 대상으로 자연환경태도를 측정하고, 이와 관련 있는 방문객의 사회 경제적 특성 및 방문동기와의 관계를 규명하였다. 자연환경태도의 측정은 Dunlop과 Van Liere(1978)가 개발한 New Environmental Paradigm(NEP) scale올 기초로 Luzar 등(1995)이 6문항으로 축약한 scale을 적용하였으며, 총 2,647명의 방문객을 대상으로 조사되었다. 분석결과 방문객의 자연환경태도는 전반적으로는 친환경적인 경향을 지니고 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 자연환경태도와 관련이 있는 방문객의 사회 경제적 변수로는 교육수준이 양(陽)의 상관관계, 연령의 경우 음(陰)의 상관관계가 통계적으로 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 방문객의 자연환경태도와 방문동기와의 관계에 있어서는 '휴식'과 '건강' 동기요인에 양(陽)의 상관관계가 존재하는 것으로 나타난 반면, '사회성', '가족휴가' 동기요인과는 음(陰)의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 공원관리적 측면에서 친환경적인 이용객 유도정책을 도입할 경우 교육이 가장 효과적인 수단으로 판단되며, '가족휴가'와 '사회성' 동기가 강한 방문객일수록 자연환경태도 점수가 상대적으로 낮아, 여름 휴가철 가족동반의 방문객이나 가을 단풍철 집단방문객의 경우에서 이용자관리에 보다 세심한 고려가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

New Paradigm and its Policy Framework in Decision-making on Large Dams

  • This study discusses two canceled dam projects, Youngwol Dam in South Korea and Two Forks Dam in Colorado of the United States. Both of them illustrate how the new paradigm applies to regional water projects because they became victims of environmental opposition in the new paradigm. While the cases have no apparent close relationships and they occurred in different decades, they offer interesting comparisons. They were basically struggles between water development coalitions and environmental protection coalitions on regional water conflicts. The two proposed projects brought about fierce debates on large dam as they embraced a wide-range of environmental, social, and political issues rather than construction of dams themselves. Huge anti-dam oppositions scrapped them at the cost of nearly ten years for decision-makings and enormous financial resources for feasibility studies respectively. It identifies who the policy actors were, what the policy strategies were, and how the water policies evolved in both countries. The decision-makings on the two projects appeared at first glance to be made under formal institutional frameworks, but in actuality, they relied significantly on decisions of the two important political actors. The Korean society began to learn negotiation and cooperation approaches to solve the water conflict by establishing the Joint Task Force Team on Youngwol project in 1999. The team is recognized as a new conflict resolution method in South Korea because a diverse of stakeholder interests voluntarily participated in the decision-making process and discussed water issues directly. Even though the projects resulted in futile fruits in each country, they illustrate the images of the new paradigm that significantly affected in formulating regional water policies in South Korea and the United States.

뉴 패러다임 관점에서 해석한 공간의 위계구조와 준공적 공간에 관한 연구 (A study on the semi-public space and spatial hierarchy understood from the viewpoint of new paradigm)

  • 환경을 다루는 디자이너에게 있어서 유동적으로 변화하는 과학적 지식 체계의 흐름을 파악하는 것은 중요하다. 당대의 시대적 세계관과 타학문 분야의 발전 성향을 반영하여 새로운 문화를 창조하고 제시하는 과정이 환경디자인이기 때문이다. 본 연구는 변화하는 세계관이 관점에서 공간을 파악하여 현대인의 도시환경에 상실되어 가는 이미지를 회복할 수 있는 방향을 제시하는 데에 그 의의를 둔다. 연구의 진행 과정은 다음과 같다. 1. 공간의 순위적 질서에 따른 각 공간의 역할과 인간과의 관계에 있어서 각 공간의 중요성을 논한다. 2. 새로운 패러다임의 관점에서 공간은 어떻게 해석되는 지와 그에 따른 환경디자인 접근방법의 방향을 제시한다. 3. 도시 환경에 있어서 준공 적 공간의 제안이 뉴 패러다임과 그 입장을 같이 하고 있음을 논하고 준공 적 공간의 도시 활성화 역할의 중요성을 밝힌다. 연구결과 새로운 패러다임에 입각한 공간의 이해에서 출발한 준공적 공간이 도시에서의 풍요로운 삶의 영역을 확장하여 무질서, 엔트로피의 증가라는 부정적인 환경 문제를 극복하는 에너지로서 작용할 수 있는 가능성을 찾아볼 수 있었다.

신 산림자원관리 패러다임에 대한 태도변화 연구 - 한국 산림청 공무원을 대상으로 - (Study on the Attitudinal changes of the Korea Forest Service Employees toward New Forest Resource Management Paradigm : 1993-2006)

  • 최근 일반 사회분야에서 환경문제를 해결하기 위해 인간과 자연과의 관계를 새롭게 설정해야 한다는 새로운 패러다임이 확산되고 있으며, 산림분야에서도 산림생태계의 건강성에 중점을 둔 새로운 산림관리 패러다임이 대두되고 있다. 본 연구는 최근 대두되고 있는 새로운 환경 패러다임과 산림자원관리 패러다임의 개념에 대해 알아보고 실제 산림정책 의사결정에 있어서 큰 영향을 미치고 있는 한국 산림청 간부 및 일반직원들이 이들 패러다임에 대해 어떤 태도를 가지고 있고 지난 1993년과 2006년도 사이에 시계열적으로 어떻게 변화하였는지를 조사하였다. 조사결과 산림청 간부 및 일반직원의 태도는 새로운 환경 패러다임과 산림자원관리 패러다임을 지향하는 것으로 나타났으며, 각 조사시점에서 두 집단간의 태도의 차이는 없었다. 그러나 시계열적으로는 1993년에 비해 2006년도 조사에서 그 지향 강도가 다소 약화된 것으로 나타났다. 반면 새로운 산림자원관리 패러다임에 대한 산림청의 정책입장은 '93년에 비해 새로운 패러다임 방향으로 변화되었으나 아직도 그 반영 수준은 미흡하며 간부 및 일반직원들의 개인적 지향점과는 갭이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 산림기본법 시대를 맞아 국제적으로 지속가능한 산림경영의 이행이 요구되고 있는 상황하에서 이를 달성하기 위해서는 산림청의 정책지향 방향, 조직원들의 산림자원관리 방식에 대한 기본적 가치, 태도 등을 어떻게 변화시켜야 하는지에 대한 유용한 정보를 제공할 것으로 사료된다.

중학생의 환경세계관과 환경의식 (Middles School Students Worldview and Consciousness about the Environment)

  • The present study is to investigate the middle school students' worldview and consciousness about the environment. To conduct this study, 605 students from the two middle schools of Daegu metropolitan area, seventh grade, were measured using a modified version of New Environmental Paradigm (NEP) instrument and qustionnaire of environmental consciousness. The results are as follows: First, a majority of middle school students held an ecological environmental worldview. They also had a similar environmental worldview to education experience on environment-related to subjects. The strongest area of agreement with the NEP were in the "Negative results of growth and technology." The weakest area of agreement with the NEP were in the "Quality of life" dimension with only 44.9 percent agreement across that dimension's four statements. Second, the middle school students are sensible of consciousness in environmental problems. They pointed out that air pollution and noise are the most as sever problems in country and local area, respectively. Finally, the subjects who showed the higher environmental worldview had a higher environmental consciousness and better attitudes related to environmental problems.

생태중심 생명가치관 확립을 위한 환경윤리교육의 모형 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of a Model in the Environmental Ethics Education for Eco-centred Life Values)

  • The purpose of this study is to research new paradigms of environmental ethics and environmental ethics education to overcome ecological crisis and to develop an alternative model of systematic environmental ethics education for establishing eco-centred life values. According to deep ecologists, they assert the necessity of basic reorientation of crucial components of present political, economic and social orders to overcome ecological crisis today. This means the movement from the mechanistic worldview to the ecological worldview and the shift from Dominant Social Paradigm(DSP) to New Ecological Paradigm(NEP). Environmental ethics education should be 'eco-centred environmental ethics education'which makes some contribution to overcome ecological crisis and to create new alternatives. Also it should be not a simple behavior change but 'eco-centred environmental ethics education', what is called, as 'ecological literacy education'which changes the views of values, thoughts and attitudes etc. In this, as a new social curriculum, 'ecological literacy education'means to cultivate the ability which can recognize environmental problems correctly and to overcome ecological crisis wisely we face with today. To perform this ecological environmental ethics education, we suggested 'eco-centred life values', we place a criterion of moral value judgment according to 'ecological conscience'on 'life', and we presented 'an alternative model of environmental ethics education' giving consideration to human being, nature and environment at the same time.

  • This study suggests a new paradigm of fashion merchandising as an environmental change of the fashion industry. The study has the pattern of a literature study and it is analyzed through journals, professional books, fashion magazines, and newspapers. Examined are the environmental changes of the fashion industry, the condition, and problems of the merchandising process that is executed currently, as well as an examination of the concept of fashion merchandising, Concepts and changes for new fashion merchandising strategies are suggested that are helpful for academics and fashion companies. This paper defines the concept of new fashion merchandising as the integrated management activity of planning, development, and selling fashion products to create a profit for the company with the satisfaction of the target customers. This study proposes the pursuance of integrated merchandising, the change of product planning and product development, and the strengthening of store-centered retail merchandising in order to change the direction of fashion merchandising.

  • Mechanical world view was built by Newton and Decarte approximately 400 years ago. Modern Society has reached at the time for fundamental adjustment and in effect, the paradigm shift is now under way. The new paradigm is the holistic world view that considers the world as the integrated entirety rather than the unity of separated parts. The pluralistic phase which can be considered as general characteristics observed in the art, society and culture in the end of the 20th century is seen as the reflection of this new world view. the complementary relationship between traditionism and modernity and oriental intuitive, holistic approach and western rational analytical approach can be explained when the complementary relationship is recognized with holistic and integrated view. The holistic paradigm and integrated-artistic view are the new aesthetic value which can suggest an alternative for public art of environmental design.
