  • We are developing an automatic adjusting system for ITC. ITC(Integrated Tube Components) has a large set-by-set variability in its characteristics. And it also has nonlinearities. It requires not only a fast vision process but also an efficient control algorithm to meet the need for high productivity. In this paper, the description of an adjusting system and the modelling of ITC will be presented. And also the concept of a new rule based hierarchical algorithmic approaches will be suggested.

  • As the role and status of English as an international language(EIL) have been widely discussed, studies need to be done to find out new issues and concerns related to teaching EIL In Korea. This presentation will review the changes in teaching English in Korea, teaching pronunciation, in particular, focusing on its goal and major instructional approaches. Suggestions will be made on developing a learner-centered communicative model for teaching English pronunciation and on training both Korean and foreign teachers of English to teach English pronunciation.

  • In this paper we describe a new method for multimodal function optimization using genetic algorithms(GAs). We propose adaptation rules for GA parameters such as population size, crossover probability and mutation probability. In the self organizing genetic algorithm(SOGA), SOGA parameters change according to the adaptation rules. Thus, we do not have to set the parameters manually. We discuss about SOGA and those of other approaches for adapting operator probabilities in GAs. The validity of the proposed algorithm will be verified in a simulation example of system identification.

  • Conventional rule-based approaches have some problems caused by rule maintenance. Also they have some limitations to get the high quality translation results. This paper presents new English-Korean transfer approach that uses patterns and examples on limited domains. The use of patterns and examples can resolve the ambiguities and give high quality of MT Proposed approach can be applied in various NLP related area. Experimental results with a test corpus are discussed.

  • A comprehensive coverage of corrosion in batteries is rendered difficult by the wide choice of materials, environments and physical features as obtained in practical settings. Understanding of the complex processes that occur in these electrochemical systems gets clearer as new theoretical approaches backed by sophisticated analytical and characterization techniques continue to provide valuable insights which aid in controlling/mitigating wasteful corrosion reactions which affect battery shelf-life, cycle life, rate capability and capacity. In the light of the above, I limit myself to a discussion on corrosion aspects in representative system such as conventional Leclanche, lead-acid battery and magnesium batteries, and advanced lithium systems.

  • New analysis methods complement classical approaches in the vehicle NVH development by reducing and accelerating iteration steps to obtain a target sound. Therefore, tools are required that allow an integrative approach of sound engineering and structural analysis and enable a precise simulation and modification based on measured data. The Response Modification Analysis (RMA) is such a hybrid solution, which provides indications of relevant transfer paths taking into account the sensitivity of response channels to modifications of reference channels.

  • New treatment approaches are needed to improve the effectiveness of oral cancer treatment, since surgical resection of the tumor in oral region causes various oral dysfunctions. The molecular biology of oral cancer has been progressively delineated. Concurrently, gene therapy techniques have been developed that allow targeting or replacement of dysfunctional genes in cancer cells, offering the potential to treat a wide range of cancer. Oral carcinoma is attractive target for gene therapy because of its accessibility. In this article, we review the current status of gene therapy as applied to oral carcinoma.

  • Pulmonary system is a target organ and primary defense mechanism against environmental oxidants and polutants. Enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxdant defense mechanisms undoubtedly protect the lung from oxidants even endogenous oxidative stress. In addition, new ways of augmenting pulmonary antioxidant defenses are developed, which can be used to support the intrinsic antioxidants. Therefore, improved understanding of antioxidant defense mechanisms will increase our knowledge of the cause and will suggest rational approaches for treating and preventing oxidant-induced lung injury. In this review, we discuss the formation and scavenging of free radicals, and the strategies for antioxidant defense of pulmonary system.

  • Formally, we may define cognitive science as the convergent study between symbolic and connectionist approaches at macro and micro levels. Since what we refer to as the human mind is regarded as a mathematical product of the human brain and the computing machine, we can obtain two mathematical dynamical projections: one from the set of human brains to the set of mind, the other from the set of computing machines to the set of mind. Then, we are having a new projection from the classical models to the quantum mind.

  • This paper provides a review of the status and of the perspectives of advanced catalytic combustion for ultra clean combustion of gas turbines and for industrial combustors. The development of catalytic materials and their combustion techniques for gas turbines are briefly reported. The fuel-rich approaches to catalytic combustion are mentioned for a new technology of thermal- and fuel-NOx control. The fuel-rich catalytic combustion are also applicable to the combustor of ceramic gas turbine, and to the combustion of biomess and municipal waste sludge. Some extended technologies of combustion synthesis are introduced for the synthesis of carbon nanotube and of Perovskite combustion catalysts
