  • Recently home network has been developed in the field of Information Technology. And there are many protocols for smart home, such as Lonworks, Echonet, KNX, LnCP etc. However, the performance evaluation has not been nearly known between the protocols. Hence, this paper evaluates the performance of KNX by Konnex Association and LnCP(Living network Control Protocol) by LG Electronics. We developed simulation model using flowchart of KNX and LnCP and simulation scenario through analysis of message to be generated in the home network. Furthermore, we evaluate simulation performance, such as mean transmission delay, maximum transmission delay, and collision rate of both protocols.

Link Importance in Flow Network

  • The flow network is considered to be in a functioning state if it can transmit a maximum flow which is greater than or equal to a specified amount of flow. In this paper we consider the measures of importance of a link in the flow network. We define the structural importance and reliability importance of link when the required amount of flow is given. Also, we present the performance importance of link in a flow network. The performance importance can be used to determine which links should be improved first in order to make the greatest improvement in performance of the network. Numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

A Study on the Impact of Liner Shipping Network Characteristics to the World Regional Major Port performance (세계 주요지역 항만의 네트워크 특성이 성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the network characteristics of ports and their performance that is represented by port competitiveness for the port operators. The study employs Social Network Analysis (SNA) to evaluate network characteristics comprising four centrality indices. For this research, data from Containerization International Yearbooks for 2006-2011 is used to analyze the service networks of 20 major liner shipping companies. In SNA, nodes (vertices) in the network are the ports and links (edges) in the network are connections realized by vessel movements, such that the liner shipping network determines the port network. In addition, panel regression analysis has been employed to investigate the relationship between port network characteristics and their performance. The results suggest that the four centrality indices identify the roles of the world's major ports from 2006 to 2011 and that port performance is determined not only by macroeconomic variables and service capabilities but also by the eigenvector centrality of ports in networks.

  • HPC(High Performance Computing) is the computing system that connects a number of computing nodes with high performance interconnect network. In the HPC, interconnect network technology is one of the key player to make high performance systems, and mainly, Infiniband or Ethernet are used for interconnect network technology. Nowadays, PCIe interface is main interface within computer system in that host CPU connects high performance peripheral devices through PCIe bridge interface. For connecting between two computing nodes, PCIe Non-Transparent Bridge(NTB) standard can be used, however it basically connects only two hosts with its original standards. To give cost-effective interconnect network interface with PCIe technology, we develop a prototype of interconnect network system with PCIe NTB. In the prototyped system, computing nodes are connected to each other via PCIe NTB interface constructing switchless interconnect network such as ring network. Also, we have implemented prototyped data sharing mechanism on the prototyped interconnect network system. The designed PCIe NTB-based interconnect network system is cost-effective as well as it provides competitive data transferring bandwidth within the interconnect network.

  • This paper evaluates the real-time performance of the Train Communication Network (TCN) that consists of WTB and MVB. A run-time scheduling algorithm for the hard-real time communication was proposed and its performance was evaluated. Also, a new addressing method and the adaptive tree algorithm were suggested to enhance performance. The overall performance was evaluated by computer simulation using Arena.

  • In this paper, performance evaluation of HNCP home network is using stochastic activity network models is proposed. HNCP is a home network protocol for controling and monitoring home appliances using power line communication. a CSMA/CA with packet drop method is used in HNCP MAC layer. Using the proposed stochastic activity network models. performances of HNCP home networks with error-free environment and error environment are evaluated.

  • Most traffic in the real internet is TCP traffic. Therefore newly proposed network coding schemes must consider their effects on TCP performance. However, in most studies on network coding, performance evaluation has been conducted using other types of traffic than TCP traffic because network coding has effects on the pattern of packet transmission, which again can impact TCP performance. In most packet transmission schemes based on network coding for wireless mesh networks, it is determined which node, among the ones that received a broadcasted packet, should encode and forward it. In this paper, we examine how the forwarder nodes impact TCP performance.

  • ISPs and Enterprises are equipping their networks with sufficiently high speed facilities and provide large bandwidths members. However the high speed enterprise network does not have satisfying end-to-end network performance within the network in spite of under utilization. The root cause of this performance degradation is a micro-congestion, which is a short-live event of traffic congestion. A micro-congestion causes packet loss, delay and packet reodering, and finally results in end-to-end network performance degradation. In this paper, we propose a micro-congestion detection method and find out the characteristics of performance degradation by analyzing traffic archives which is collected from a network link when a micro-congestion occurs.

  • Explosively growing service of digital multimedia data increases the need for highly scalable low-cost storage. This paper proposes the new storage architecture based on torus network which does not need network switch and erasure coding for efficient storage usage for high scalability and efficient disk utilization. The proposed model has to compensate for the disadvantage of long network latency and network processing overhead of torus network. The proposed storage model was compared to two most popular distributed file system, GlusterFS and Ceph distributed file systems through a prototype implementation. The performance of prototype system shows outstanding results than erasure coding policy of two file systems and mostly even better results than replication policy of them.
