  • Software reliability growth models are used in testing stages of software development to model the error content and time intervals betwewn software failures. In this paper, using priors for the number of fault with the negative binomial distribution nd the error rate with gamma distribution, Bayesian inference and model selection method for Jelinski-Moranda and Goel-Okumoto and Schick-Wolverton models in software reliability. For model selection, we explored the sum of the relative error, Braun statistic and median variation. In Bayesian computation process, we could avoid the multiple integration by the use of Gibbs sampling, which is a kind of Markov Chain Monte Carolo method to compute the posterior distribution. Using simulated data, Bayesian inference and model selection is studied.

  • In ecological studies, animal science, or entomology, the variance of count is considered to have the power of the mean relationship with the mean count as Taylor (1961) presented his famous 'Taylor's Power Law'. In this talk, we are going to review the development of TPL and its extension toward pest management sampling scheme. Different estimation methods are compared. Quasilikelihood approach is suggested to incorporate covariate information. Possible extensions will be discussed.

  • The prevalence of Bacillus cereus was determined in salad and Kimbab obtained from commercial retailers. Among the 100 salad samples analyzed, 54 samples were negative for B. cereus, whereas the bacterial count was < 10 colony forming units (CFU)/g in 8 samples, < 100 CFU/g in 25 samples, < 1,000 CFU/g in 11 samples, and > 1,000 CFU/g in 2 samples. The mean (standard deviation) was 1.18 log CFU/g (${\pm}0.71$ log CFU/g). In Kimbab, B. cereus was isolated from 20 samples; the mean bacterial count was 1.01 log CFU/g (${\pm}0.71$ log CFU/g). On the basis of the monitoring data, a statistical sampling plan was determined with the NEW sampleplan program (ICMSF), which was used as an analytical tool. To identify the most suitable sampling plan, the microbial limits (m, M) and the maximum allowable number of sample units yielding unsatisfactory test results (c) were varied, but the number of samples units, n = 5, was fixed. Sampling plans showing an acceptable probability (Pa) over 0.95 were considered suitable. Two plans (A and B) were finally suggested. Parameters for plan A are n = 5, c = 0, m = 1,000, and M = 10,000 and for plan B are n = 5, c = 2, m = 100, and M = 1,000. Interestingly, the latter plan was identical to the microbial sampling plan used in New Zealand. Thus, it was concluded that the suggested plan can be used as a sampling plan that is in line with international standards.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze relationships among science achievement, science process skills and affective perception of high school students. The affective perception was included attitude toward science and science anxiety in the study. The instruments were developed HARS and SAMS for this study. The subject was sampled 1,115 students by stratified cluster sampling method. The major findings of this study were as follows: The tendency to affective perception was investigated according to students variables. Atittude toward science was showed a negative perception on female than male, in rural area than city. Science anxiety was percepted highly on female than male, in rural area than city. Attitude toward science showed positive relations to science process skills, science achievement, but which showed negative relation to science anxiety. Science anxiety showed negative relations among science process skills, science achievement and attitude toward science. Structural relationships among affective perception, science process skills and science achievement were analyzed by effect size through the path analysis on the independent and dependent variables. By the results, it was indicated that there have significant direct effect not only affective perception influence on science achievement but also on science process skills in hypothesized model. Prediction of science achievement and science process skills were clarified to characteristics of the affective perception. Therefore, understanding about affective perception will be helpful to make the strategy of science teaching

  • Background: The attendance rates for cancer screening are low in Japan. Little is actually known about how the Japanese perceive cancer. Since beliefs about illness affect individuals' health care practice, the aim of this study was to explore beliefs about cancer and factors associated with those beliefs, focusing on representative cancer sites. Materials and Methods: Japanese adults (${\geq}20$ years old) who had not been diagnosed with any cancers and were not health care professionals were recruited, using a convenience sampling approach. A total of 91 participants completed questionnaires including open-ended questions. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the responses. Results: Five themes were suggested: (i) a threatening illness that might greatly change one's future life; (ii) basic cancer knowledge; (iii) a curable illness with early detection and adequate treatment; (iv) causes of cancer; and (v) anyone can develop cancer. Families or friends' negative consequences of cancer were associated with negative beliefs about the disease. Gestational cancer was the most representative site of most themes. Conclusions: A threatening illness (e.g., death or incurable illness) was the most common belief among the Japanese laypeople. Importance of early detection and treatments should be more emphasized, and future screening programs should include strategies modifying negative cancer beliefs among Japanese laypeople.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess general population' AIDS knowledge and attitudes towards AIDS. Methods: Using a multistage area sampling and random digit dialing method, a random sample of individuals aged 19-59 years, living in 16 different area in Korea during September 2007 were interviewed by telephone. Results: In all, 1,087 respondents completed the survey. In most items, respondents displayed a fairly good degree of knowledge about AIDS. However it was lower than that in developed countries. Respondents' attitudes towards AIDS were found to be negative. The knowledge and attitudes towards AIDS were more positive for respondents who were young, educated, office worker or students, higher in income. The higher level of knowledge, the more positive attitudes towards AIDS. Conclusions: In general AIDS related knowledge was relatively low and people showed negative attitudes towards AIDS. Incorrect knowledge and lack of information on AIDS would lead to unnecessary negative attitudes and there need to be addressed by health education programs and campaigns using mass media.

  • This study aims to examine whether an increased disclosure has a positive impact on firm performance and whether the opposite impact of increased disclosure on firm performance can occur in certain conditions - high proprietary information and competition. The sample for this study consists of Indonesian firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The data were selected based on purposive sampling and panel data spanned eleven years (2006-2016). A panel GLS regression using moderated regression analysis (MRA) was adopted. The results of this study reveal that an increased disclosure has a positive effect on firm performance, but an increased disclosure has a negative impact on firm performance when proprietary information is high, and vice versa. Also, if the disclosure is increased, the negative impact of proprietary information on firm performance will get exacerbated in conditions where the competition level is high. The findings of this study suggest that, since the positive effect of continuously-increased disclosure on firm performance leads to the reversal (negative) impact when certain conditions occur (high proprietary information and competition), the level of disclosure quality is most likely to tap an 'optimal' point. In this regard, however, a broader investigation of all firms across countries still needs to be conducted.
